Hi everyone,
I am just informing you that I had to change my username from Whitechild to Dreamframer, because I had comments from 3 people that my username sounds kinda racist.
I would like to explain what my username means, and then I will change it anyway.
When I was a kid I was blond, and my older brother always had dark hair. That's why older people (neighbors mostly) used to call me "white child", or "white kid".
I have never divide people by any means, including skin color, and I didn't even think someone will ever connect my username with racism. But it seems that Americans still have problem with this.
Most musicians I love to listen are black. I was always amazed by black people's musical talent, which is even more noticable in my case since I sing and compose.
So, I had to change my username, and I came up with Dreamframer.

Yea, when I read the title I wondered what a dreamframer was.

I never gave your name a thought, other than maybe that it was your last name. Personally, I think everybody is just a little too politically correct and take themselves a little too seriously.

With a name like clapper, I grew up with a fairly thick skin. Kids at school were a little easier on us girls but my brother was always being called The Clap. (for our foreign friends, The Clap is a nickname for gonorrhea, a venereal disease). Or crapper. Fortunately, most people now ask if I invented The Clapper (clap on, clap off, the automatic light turner-oner).

Thanks for the heads up on your name change.

What? Really?
Hard to imagine.
Dreamframer sounds really Dreamstime, I agree.
What if you want to go exclusive?
Anyway, welcome :)

I find it quite pathetic that anybody would connect your user name with racism.

Me too. It's ridiculous to make this connection.

And it will take ages for me to get used of the change (I'm slow!)

The good thing is that we can shorten it to DF instead of WC.  :)

To be honest, when I first read your name I wondered about it - particularly since your head is shaved (like skinheads do here in the US) - but just reading your posts and getting to know you makes it very clear what kind of person you are.

Sorry some folks took your name wrong, but if people would withhold judgment and get to know you before drawing conclusions about your name, they would have discovered what I did:

Ivan, you are one of the nicest people I have met online and don't seem to have a mean or racist bone in your body.

Maria, Maria... lolol  ;D

Thanks Lisa. I bet most people here think the same about you.
I know that people often make conclusions even on the first sight, and if I want to sell something to someone, I have to think about this as well.

@cclaper , lol, so, I am not the only one with double sided nickname.

Exactly the same here, Ivan.

You probably don't know my username, but I first encountered you on DT when you faved me. I took a look at your username, your profile pic, and I was very worried that you were indeed a skinhead. But not too long after that, you started posting here, and it soon became clear that whatever your username meant, it had nothing to do with racism.

Still, I think it was a good idea to change your username, because I suspect there might be some US sales that you lose (believe it or not) due to the unfortunate racist implications. I hope someday things will change here, but I'm still waiting for us to adopt the metric system, and look how long that's taking.   >:(

Maybe I should call my self Dreamstimer, lol, or Dreamstime r
I'm sure it would pop up more in that case.

Ivan, you will have to let us know if your sales pick up noticeably.  Maybe your new name will turn out to be a financial windfall for you.  Then you will see people with "Dream"y names popping up all over the place ;D

Hate to say it but I wondered too, given the shirtless skinhead look in conjunction with the name. Good to hear it was misplaced!

Geez, so many people shave their heads these days.  They are not skinheads.

Me too. Do they think the same about someone whose surname is White (or Black)?
But some of my pupils have told me they had a primary school teacher who insisted on them talking about 'rainbow pencils'.
Anyway, good luck with your new 'identity'.

Oh my... I didn't even imagine that so many of you guys thought I am a skinhead. You should tell me long ago about this. Maybe that way I would avoid some of small unpleasant situations that I had to deal with, lol.

@suwanneeredhead: Thanks Stacey! Good to see you! :) I'm so flattered. It's always a great pleasure seeing you.

Oh, I gotta change my email address, website, and myspace page that I registered few days ago. I got only 4 friends there. 2 of them are "default" myspace friends, so I don't count them, and one of the rest 2 is Beyonce :D

like several others, that WAS my initial reaction, but all i had to do was read your posts to realize the truth so i let it go - a private msg would probably have been helpful;  unfortunately, in the US it's not a matter of political correctness anymore, but the complete dumbing down of discourse -- to the point that merely calling someone 'liberal' eg is supposed to prove your case.  with the tea party, militia & aryans, provocative signs and names are common and recently, and can be accompanied by death threats or bricks

Wow!
That thought has never, not for a second, crossed my mind.
Actually, I'm confused.
What is it that's so bad about 'Whitechild'?
Can't be the 'child' part. It must be the word 'white'.
Or it might be that people are over sensitive and pushing the race card as far as it would go.
My bet goes on the latter.
But in this case they were lucky.
You are indeed a very nice man and 'Whitechild' is no more.

'Dreamframer' sounds magical. It's a good choice and I'm sure it will bring you luck.
Let them have the White Child if it makes them feel better...
We're left with the dreams, not a bad outcome :)

In my country people say: "from your mouth to God's ears" :)

I heard that Whitechild is pretty common English last name, so I was surprised that no one took that nick name in microstock world...

i don't automatically jump to racist conclusions whenever i see 'white' unless there are other negative connotations. i actually associate white with innocence and thus, innocent child. black, on the other hand, well, that's another kettle of fish...

lol, I didn't think you were a skinhead. Instead, I thought your hair left you instead of the other way around  :P
