Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Acceptance Rates
« on: June 05, 2025, 07:02 »
That collage is quite telling Jo Ann.  My situation is quite similar to yours, although I keep my rather modest submission rate (5 - 10/week)

I have a question if someone can please enlighten me.  The following image was rejected as RF,  only to be accepted as Illustrative Editorial

Why???  Aerial view of Malaga, Spain.  Yes in the centre is Corrida (Bullfight Arena), so what?   There are several examples at Adobe Stock library that are not Illustrative Editorial where Corrida is much better seen:

... and many more ...

Any comments?

Did you remove all hotel logos (there are a lot of hotels in this view)?

My rejection rate in the last 1-2 weeks is 100% due to similarity. I usually upload content, which is better quality than let's say 95% of similar content by other contributors. This strategy still generates a lot of sales for me. Now Adobe rejects higher quality content, because they already got similar content in lower quality - that's surely great for their customers  :D

4
Just visited my dormant account with 0 sales and 0 assets since Dec 2022. Account is still there and they still owe me 3 dollars, which I will probably never get  :D

5
the majority of the images selected have sold very few times (i think the criteria is 4 or fewer sales in the last year).  with current trends, at least for me, most of the images have little to no chance of earning $10 total ever.  i'm fine "giving away" a few images for $10 while i can still earn something for them.  they will only accept 10% or less of the nominated images so it won't be a huge loss and in many cases i have other similar images that will still be in my port available for sale.  i won't nominate images i think have better earning potential or are better earners on other sites.

If you got similar images to the one you give away for free, why would anybody pay for your similars instead of taking the free one?

6
I don't and won't participate in the free collection, but for those who do, cutting the annual payment seems like a low blow to me

Well, maybe people who give their content away for free, deserve this.
Adobe pre-selects content that already sold in the past, so I never got the point of contributors giving it away for free.

7
I still have this last road to try,so I'd better get back to work for now, there's nothing else I can do!

Good luck, I really hope you succeed!

8
I try to be strong and keep going, but then I see the sales and they are really too disappointing.

I'm trying these videos consistently now,but will my consistent way be consistent enough?

will there ever be anything that is ever substantial enough?

It seems to me that here we do nothing but run, always run,but without ever getting anywhere!  :D

Which is why it's better to try new options. I don't know your work, so it's difficult to give advice. But maybe try some higher priced options, like Stocksy (btw I applied to Stocksy 2-3 times already and was declined every time - so my work can't be that good  :D). Maybe try POD if it works with your kind of content. I'm sure there are other options out there.

9
I don't question the quality of your content or sales potential, but the main point is that you started a decade or more ago, otherwise you wouldn't be able to get these results with 700 assets.

I've got no idea why I still sell well. I was expecting the sales to drop, but they are still there.
I rarely upload new content, I don't give any free content away and I've got a lot of "bad" files in my port which never sold.

10
Not so bad this week. 700+ assets, no AI

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime Website dead?
« on: May 15, 2025, 13:23 »
Hi, I am trying to load the dreamstime website since at least two days. It doesnt load and gets a timeout. Anyone else experiencing this?
Yes, experienced that too. Dreamstime was as slow as this forum  :D

12
I have used the Adobe crisis to start my public blog about my personal weight loss on Medium. Now that I am building up followers, i will slowly start adding articles behind paywall. But i don't expect to get rich from it, it is more a project i wanted to start and slowly learn about monetizing writing, maybe small books, something to learn until retirement.
Sounds great, good luck with your blog! Every little income channel counts :)

The best control is if you sell whatever via your own website.
Fully agree! Which is why I started selling prints through my own website. It's not fully automated yet, so each sale takes around 20 min of emails and book keeping, but that's OK for now. Of course I still depend on Google etc to be found  :D

So with all the doom and gloom...I still have growing sales. Stock is not dead. I moan and complain a lot, but...
It's not dead yet. But I'm afraid it's just a race to the bottom. Maybe macrostock agencies will be a solution for niche content, I can imagine this kind of content actually increasing in price as less and less professional creators are supplying agencies with high-quality content.

Is ETSY worth the time for a microstock contributor, if so selling what? I've heard POD is a waste of time with very low commissions and doesn't sell well.

There are shops with thousands of POD sales on Etsy, so for some it seems to work. Also people sell digital downloads there. There are no commissions, you keep the difference between your price and your costs + Etsy fees.

14
I wasnt looking for advice, just genuinely curious about what you meant by monetizing stock videos on YouTube. Were you referring to creating content that teaches others 'how to make money with microstock', or did you mean publishing videos in the hopes of attracting a large audience?
I never said you should monetize stock videos on Youtube. Most people would need to produce videos for Youtube, but some probably can monetize their existing stock content.

15
May I ask you how do you imagine earning money on Youtube with stock video content ?

You should ask yourself that question. Look for examples, how do people with similar content or skills as yours get their Youtube channel monetized and start from there. Learn new skills if needed.

Personally I don't do any video at all and I'm still too busy with other topics (not stock, that's just side hustle with maybe 5 hours per month investment, which also includes this forum ). But in future I want to start doing video and will look into monetizing Youtube.

16
All my plans for the year are broken.

I did not imagine that Adobe would abruptly break their relationship with creators and implement a random upload algo.

I am switching to video for Adobe, but it takes a long time for video to start selling.

The year started very well, January - April I had increases of 60-84% compared to the year before.

But my plan rests on files reinforcing each other. I upload small volumes, but it usually sells.

Now I have to deal with an algo roulette, which is beyond frustrating.

Nobody wins at this, but Adobe is doubling down that the creators are at fault.

Whoever is resposible for the random review mess is more important than the relationship with the creative community.

That is the most depressing part.

Will try to make an effort at istock and overall video, inclufing BB.

I guess this year is the Make istock great again year.

Wishing you good luck with your changed plans, but I'm afraid not much can be done by now. You are trying to win in a dying market and you build your business plan trusting in agencies you've got no control over. Sure there are some topics where lots of content is still missing, but these topics don't decide content pricing. It is the generic content, which sells well on microstock and which faces the most competition from free AI - thus I think inevitably leading to price drops for all microstock content in future.

There are other and probably better possibilities for content creators to earn, be it selling stuff on Etsy or starting a Youtube channel. Maybe look into some of these to not depend on stock too much?

17
Congrats, well done! Also maybe look into monetizing social media. I was in Facebook monetization program for some time and I was earning close to microstock numbers, just for posting stuff online I would have posted anyway. With your videos you could do well on IG and Tiktok.

18
I'm up to 3500 with just 54 downloads this week (and last week was pretty slow as well for me). Adobe seems to be slow for everyone currently, usually I'd need more downloads to reach that rank

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobestock Review Time
« on: April 19, 2025, 12:15 »
Adobe's growing disrespect towards quality contributors was clear when they announced the limits for the 2024 bonus code for their software - rewarding AI spammers instead of quality content providers. I think no one should expect to be treated with respect by Adobe and thus you should act accordingly. Make plans what you will do when it's time to leave Adobe (or when you will be let go by Adobe) and work towards it.

20
For me this week is much better: pos 4190 with 95 downloads.
Photos only. And I don't have any Easter content

General Stock Discussion / Re: Photography and education

You're welcome :). Some photographers have pretty inexpensive online video courses. I buy some courses from time to time to learn from these photographers.

Generic photography courses will teach you new techniques, but techniques alone don't lead to better photos. Instead you need to work on your vision. I'd say find a photographer, whose work you like, and buy a course from him/her.

I started using limited editions during some shows in "brick and mortar" galleries, after I had won some awards.

I only use them for personal projects of 10-20 images. I make a long selection and publish only the best of the best. Usually they are series with the same concept and style. Consider that I have only done 5 series/projects in 25 years of photographic activity. And with all of them I have won some awards. They are about 100 images in total. Almost all made with medium format film.

I sell them both in galleries that represent me and through my website.

But I sell very few, 3-5 a year. Maybe I advertise them very little. They are for collectors who like cotton papers.

Then I also sell open editions. The images are the same, to which I add other premium images that are not part of the projects. I sell the open editions not only with cotton papers, but also with acrylics (the best sellers), metal, and canvas.

My advice is to reserve limited editions only for special projects. The best thing is to do them for a project that has won an award.

And then you have to do a print run with very few prints (for example: 120x120 cm x5 prints, 80x80 cm x10 prints, 40x40 cm x15 prints). The price must be at least double or even triple that of open editions. I see some runs of 500 prints ... for me this is absurd. Limited editions must communicate scarcity, 50, 100 or 500 prints are too many for me.

Thanks a lot, very helpful! I also do sell quite a few acrylic prints through my website, though they aren't my bestsellers (I think it's actually pretty evenly distributed between paper, canvas and metal prints with a few expensive acrylic ones in between).

I stopped caring about awards many years ago, when I realized they were a lot of effort for little monetary value. Now you gave me a reason to think about contests again :)

Thanks a lot for the insight @Bauman!
I also sell prints through my own website (Wordpress + Woocommerce). Haven't tried limited editions yet, as I don't know if they are worth the extra effort. What is your experience with limited over open editions - would you recommend doing them?

Sounds like Freepik - hello sub-cent royalties. Next step will be removal of the opt out option, when they realize everyone is opting out of this.
Once again makes me happy to have left Shutterstock  :D
