Adobe Stock / Re: 2023 Adobe Stock contributor bonus plan details
« on: February 19, 2024, 17:21 »
I am seeing more reports of new subscriptions being added instead of extending existing subs. Since it's a holiday in the US, many folks are off today. If you haven't already redeemed your code, and you have an active subscription. I recommened holding off until I can confirm whether there is an issue or not.

Thanks for your patience,

Mat Hayward

Hello Mat,

how long will take until the codes expire, if they are not redeemed?

The code I currently use runs until October 1 this year. If it looks like extending the period is problematic, I would just keep the new code until then and only use it, when the old one runs out.
I'm not Mat, so can only speak from my own experience: two years ago or so I redeemed my code almost a year after I got it, because I had a paid plan running - there was no issue with that.

Indeed AS was great in January. Best month on AS since 2018 (not counting the AI bonus from September 2023)  :)

Mat Hayward did a great interview with Yuri in an Adobe Stock livestream about a year ago:
https://www.behance.net/videos/a087140b-0778-47ea-9637-18b592810e3c/Adobe-Stock-Top-tips-from-legendary-stock-artist-Yuri-Arcurs-EN

What was the synposis of the interview? (It's funny how most people assume whatever they say in VIDEO format is THE most important thing in the world, but most people don't have an hour or two to "listen" to people ramble). They should have a .pdf/readable format so you can quick scan it, see if it useful/informative, or just junk. What was the synposis/main points of the interview?

@cobalt has given a short synposis so I won't add to that but I just wanted to say that I agree that it is a lot quicker to get info in text form. I hate searching up a problem I'm having with Blender and ending up having to watch a 10-minute YouTube tutorial because there are no good text-based alternatives. I rarely watch the Adobe Stock livestreams but in the case of this Yuri Arcurs video, it really grabbed my interest and I was hooked throughout. I also learnt a lot from Mat's recent chat with Terry White about new features in Lightroom. (Even though there was a lot of irrelevant chitchat at the start!)
Try increasing video speed on Youtube. There's not a single video I watch on 1x speed. Mostly 1.75x or even 2x for some slow speakers. Saves a lot of time :)

Adobe Stock / Re: How have your sales been this week?
« on: January 18, 2024, 05:54 »
Sales are really good this week at Adobe, especially due to increased amount of > 1$ ones. So I wouldn't worry, your sales will pick up again  :)

@DaLiu, i imagine that with a portfolio of 18k photos you can t  do otherwise than at least decent. That was also my plan initially - get at least 2500 photos and see how it will go. So far, besides 1st year, it becomes disappointing. I have material for about 5k photos and several hundred videos - good ones, and maybe another 2k photos - filler. I hope i ll rediscover my motovation to keep uploading. Thank youfor your advice
You should probably do what's more fun to you personally. You can earn well with a large portfolio or you can earn well with a small high quality portfolio. Just to give you an idea: before I left Shutterstock in 2020, my best travel photo (a famous landmark in a large touristy city) sold 3605 times on Shutterstock. That photo alone totally paid for the whole trip :). Maybe that will motivate you :).

You can do pretty well with landscape/travel photos on microstock. But you need to be better than most of your competition and you need to cover spots that are in high demand. That's the problem with microstock - even the best photo of a low demand location will bring you just a few sales and a thus only a few dollars/euros. These kind of photos don't belong on microstock, if you want to make money with them. Microstock mostly makes sense with landscape/travel photos of very famous destinations with high sales volume - but these locations are difficult due to very high competition.

You live in Romania, right? Check the most popular photos of touristy locations in Romania and try to deliver similar quality or even better ones. Then you will see increased sales :).

Another factor in determining whether to choose Paypal or Payoneer is the eligibility for tax deduction. Here in Germany we are eligible to deduct transaction costs from tax - such as Payoneer fees. But I have no idea whether it's possible to somehow "deduct" Paypal's unfavorable conversion rate.

To be honest it's a shame Adobe doesn't want to find a favorable solution for its European contributors. I would much rather shoot/edit/upload new content to Adobe than waste my work time researching payment providers and tax law..  :-\

Follow-up post on how I lost my drone with insight from DJI's Flyaway Customer Service.

Sorry to hear about your drone loss  :(, happens to the best pilots..
Air 3 should at least be more interference resistant, so that should be helpful in future for urban flights :)

I have been working with Payoneer for more than a decade . From March 1 it seems all transaction to withdraw to a european bank will suffer a 3% transaction fee + the conversion fee. This will become an expensive proposition.
I think I might be changing all my payments to paypal to avoid this fee. So far I have seen no fee to withdraw to a linked account in Paypal.

Are some of you european contributors that were working with Payoneer facing the same dilema?
Also got this email today (I'm located in Germany).

Keep in mind there is also a yearly fee of 29,95 USD to be paid for a Payoneer account, if your account received less than 2000 USD within 12 months. So this means you might want to terminate your Payoneer account, if you will switch to a different solution.

Paypal currently doesn't charge any fees for withdrawals to a local bank, but their USD -> EUR conversion rate is much worse for us than at Payoneer. But with the new 3% Payoneer fee, Paypal should indeed be better.

Does anyone know a better solution how to get the most amount of EUR out of Adobe's USD payments? I've heard something about Revolut, but can't find the details.

Great article, thanks for sharing!

Just to share my own experience with an online shop: I also use Wordpress and Woocommerce for a self-hosted POD shop (all free, no paid plugins), with an option to license images by contacting me (doesn't happen often :)). Of course it would be much better to give customers the option to license images directly in the shop, but I'm still not sure whether I want to invest my time into that. And by the way, my hosting is much cheaper (8 euro per month), but I suspect it's not as fast as it could be with a more expensive hoster.

The fact that it's just a one-time payment for a lifetime commercial usage of our photos in Firefly AI, makes it even less compelling to upload new content to Adobe. I'm happy I only uploaded low-quality stuff to Adobe in the last 3 years (since Shutterstock's demise) and now see no reason to change that in future.

14
Same here. Never gave away any free images, so that's not it. Likely a bug

1) After about 10 years in stock business, finally took the time to create my own website and print shop. So now I'm better prepared to leave microstock behind

2) Deleted all images on Shutterstock

« on: May 03, 2023, 08:59 »
I suddenly have 3.68$ in unpaid earnings even though I haven't made any sales this year (deactivated the account on Jan 1). Now I will have to actually close the account to get my 3 dollars out  ::)

April 2023 was actually not so bad at Adobe (I don't use Shutterstock anymore) on numbers alone, but due to the 10% royalty cut (Euro -> Dollar) only rather weak.

I have offer 4ETH for some my artworks as NFT I am not sure what this mean? I do not have NTF account. Some is already on stock as RF.  Any helpful idea?

The current value of 1 ETH is $1,821.33 USD, maybe they want all rights? But $7,200, heck they could buy something of mine.  ;D
They want by 4 at this moment, all is AI images, three are already on micro stock. But how I can change this to dollars?
Make sure this is not a scam. I had something similar a month or two ago - they wanted me to add some images as NFTs to their platform (you have to mint the NFTs, which means you have to spend money) and were promising to buy them afterwards for a large amount of money. I didn't do it as I thought it was a scam. Offered them to pay me half the money upfront, they didn't want that :)

So thanks to Adobe :-\  I'm now looking into using Wise to cut down on the USD -> Euro Paypal conversion fees. But from what I understood, if you are located in Europe you need to have a business Wise account to be able to withdraw from Paypal in USD, so you can take advantage of the free PayPal->Wise transfer in USD and a "cheap" conversion from USD to Euro within Wise. And you have to pay 50 Euro to open that business account. Is anyone here who already done that? Is it worth the 50 Euro? Or is it better to use Payoneer with their 2% conversion fee?
i tried wise end even revolut...the problem is that paypal won't let you withdraw usd (i'm italian resident)....i talked to the customer service and they say i can't withdraw usd because italian regulation doesn't allow to withdraw usd from an online service...but if you use xoom which is owned by paypal you are able to withdraw usd if you have an usd debit card or usd bank account..by the way,i don't know if this rule applies to all the countries in europe so you can try to link a revolut standard card to your paypal and try to withdraw from paypal to the card and then exchange in euro inside revolut....paypal is doing its best to block this kind of transfers because this is the only source of income for them the customer service said... it would be nice if agencies allow us to use wise or revolut but i'm afraid they are in business with paypal and payoneer....let me know if have success with revolut...the virtual card i linked is free,no need to have a plastic card
Thanks a lot for the help! I'm located in Germany, so who knows, maybe the laws are different here. I don't really want to pay 50 Euro for a Wise business account just to find out whether I'll be able to transfer USD for free from Paypal to Wise  :-\. I'm going to try to withdraw to Revolut and let you know if it works.

Lol. Why my payout button is non active? I can't get payout for some reasons
They are likely reworking their payment processing systems. I already got the payment in Euro, which I issued 1.5 days ago - which is highly unusual and indicates that they are processing the non-USD payments right now. According to the email, from March 3rd all payments will be in USD, so I would expect the payout button to come back tomorrow :)

22
Just got my money out  :D. Don't forget: tonight is the last time without the pay cut
Speak for yourself  ;D ... I'm holding off till tomorrow to make sure I get an extra 180! Some of us have been short changed for years!
If it gets better for you with the new change, I would probably wait a few days more.. In their email they said the change will be applied on March 3rd..  :)

Nowadays you can just use a smartphone for microstock, no need to buy any equipment :)

@MatHayward, please let us have an option do withdraw USD to a bank account directly!
If it's too much hustle for small amounts, limit bank withdrawal to 2-5-10k$ or whatever amount you find reasonable.

PayPal is taking too much of a fee for conversion USD to my local currency (and no option to withdraw USD).
I'm losing minimum 60$ to PayPal each month, which is 720$ a year only for currency conversion!
If you can, use Payoneer (and Adobe offered it in their email). It has a much better conversion rate than Paypal.
