That is amazing news Matt, hopefully editorial video is next in the list. Keeping fingers crossed

Adobe Stock / Re: 2020 Adobe Stock Artist bonus program
« on: September 24, 2020, 13:02 »
For people shooting a mix of photos and vidoes how do i find these seperately so i can use the weighted sum to get my download count?

5000 downloads is steep, guess I've got my work cut out

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Google images licensable tag
« on: September 07, 2020, 02:19 »
For people using something like lightroom it seems like a few metatags need to be added in all future images to ensure they show this tag.

Hopefully stock images don't strip the metadata on this. I'm sure for pics posted elsewhere like Instagram, facebook, flickr, 500px and forums it might just end up helping

+1 this would definitely be a huge game changer. Both in photos and videos

Howdy Y'all!

I'm back in action full time and am working to get caught up on anything and everything I missed this past month. I hope you are all doing well. Let me know if there is anything urgent matters you need an assist on.

I spent my month off from Adobe Stock shooting stock...twisted right?
You can see some of the shots I snapped the first couple weeks I was gone here if interested: https://spark.adobe.com/page/GMbOYsGZ5vpQH/

Cheers!

This is superb, amazingly tongue in cheek and such a fun read. You got some absolutely amazing pictures

The question remains who is buying. What are the chances that these guys are offloading before they sell it to a big player who they don't want to be associated with. Think getty, facebook, smugmug types. So this gives them a golden parachute, and what happens after is of no concern.

Think flickr over the last few years

Adobe and Pond5 have a rare chance to get a ton of contributors and customers right now. Funnily enough this is exactly what shutterstock did when the whole Getty fiasco happened. Lets hope it gets played well and helps us

Unfortunately there is no number for content quality, however the decrease in assets should ring alarm bells for investors

Some alarm bells for contributers
- Focus on royalty restructuring
- focus on subscription
- focus on AI reviewing
- the hope that prosumer buyers will come in driven by low price

Guess this gravy train has ended, time to build somewhere else

Where is the focus on AI reviewing mentioned? I can't find that. Thanks.
Got this off jo ann's twitter, second para top line

WRT editorial, I'd be happy to be wrong, but I don't think so. That's an interesting question. Obviously if they did it would be a workaround for editorial footage on AS. I'm not sure if I have any editorial video that I could check with.

Anyone else exclusive to P5 that has editorial video? Does it show up at AS?

I understand what you get from an AS sale on P5 to be largely comparable to what you would get from AS by yourself. Seems to make sense with what I can piece together so far. That said, it's going to take a bit of time for videos distributed through P5 to find their way back up the database at AS. Sales from AS are likely to be slow while that happens.

Has anyone had any success through Vimeo Stock? As I understand it, P5 supplies to them too. How would we know if there were sales from them anyway?
Does anyone else know this?

1. Do editorials from Pond5 exclusive accounts show up on Adobe

2. What % of royalty comes from a pond5 clip sold on Adobe?

BTW for those interest....
Tomorrow "Josephine friends" of SS will host a conference call at 8:30 a.m. ET to discuss the results of 2nd quarterly report . The conference call can be accessed in the U.S. at (844) 634-1442 or outside the U.S. at (615) 247-0239 with the conference ID# 2957776. A live audio webcast of the call will also be available on Shutterstock's website at http://investor.shutterstock.com.

Following completion of the call, a recorded replay of the webcast will be available in the investor relations section of Shutterstock's website. A telephone replay of the call will also be available until August 4, 2020 in the U.S. at (855) 859-2056 or outside the U.S. at (404) 537-3406 with the conference ID# 2957776
This should be interesting, I'm sure they have a cover story prepared

112
Are you guys talking gross or net?

Net.

We priced our HD files at $69 and 4K at $169 - so 70% of that.
We are in a bit of a location niche though and have maintained better pricing so far. Smiling caucasian woman eating an apple, perhaps not so much.
Smart, just under the SS pricing and no crazy video subscribtion to boot.

One question, do editorial clips on Pond5 also get reflected on Adobe? Also what do you get after both agencies take their cut

113
Got some of those 0.96 sales as well. I always counted on vidoes to bring the month total to a good number. It seems the vol largely remains the same and cost per vid sale dropped by almost 3-4 times.

114
Might be just a bug. If they suspend forums that would be huge

115
Realistically now the objective is moving buyers from shutterstock to other. Either through removing content, driving traffic through social media or rating down the platform in all forums.

Understand that shutterstock is not creating demand, just catering to it. Demand will move, it make take time and be hard for us but it will. This is the only fair end we can get.

The alternative is to accept this, set ourselves up for more such cuts by them and other players. Anyway the actual reduction in earning shows just how bad jan will be.

I assume Microsoft customers buy the advertisement package, image licensing included. So Microsoft would have to pay Shutterstock, and Shutterstock their contributors.
Hope so. It would have been nice to get a mail from Shutterstock saying so. Rather than hoping we'll get some money

One more way to lose revenue? Have they put out any information on how the contributors are affected. Do we get 10c, do we get "exposure"

What other ideas should we start now?

Explain to people who are still uploading that they are very likely suffering from the Stockholm syndrome.

Quote
Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response. It occurs when hostages or abuse victims bond with their captors or abusers. This psychological connection develops over the course of the days, weeks, months, or even years of captivity or abuse.

With this syndrome, hostages or abuse victims may come to sympathize with their captives. This is the opposite of the fear, terror, and disdain that might be expected from the victims in these situations. Over the course of time, some victims do come to develop positive feelings toward their captors. They may even begin to feel as if they share common goals and causes. The victim may begin to develop negative feelings toward the police or authorities. They may resent anyone who may be trying to help them escape from the dangerous situation theyre in.

Many psychologists and medical professionals consider Stockholm syndrome a coping mechanism, or a way to help victims handle the trauma of a terrifying situation.
Absolutely, i think there are already a bunch of folks on twitter and facebook making that effort. Maybe it just needs a more persuasive argument

.... The idea was to cherry pick the heads relevant to you and get a rough estimate of your spends. If your earning is less (and its not leading to future profitability either) then essentially its a hobby and you are spending money for your enjoyment

And if you need top quality stuff with 4k, slow mo, drone shots and more then the costs are fair

that's not the way you presented it and nothing in the table supports that interpretation.the problem w sloppy surveys like this is they live forever on the web and people quote them as if they had authority

sorta like trump telling people to drink bleach and then later saying he was joking
Delightful aren't you? . Did you read the article link placed with the table?

That's the difference between a hobby and a business. You do the second one with an intent to profit.

Got this off twitter but it gives a decent overview of the cost of shooting. As a hobby, sure shoot upload get some fries money. As a business you'll need to check if that time is better spent elsewhere

Please note that not all microstockers are Photographers.

1200$ annual on computer equipment it's a bit exaggereted. Unless you are into 3d realistic render, dynamics, fluids simulations...
Phone... 6 euros/months for unlimited calls and 40gb internet (here in Italy)
Internet services, 24 euros/month for 200MB fiber (in Italy)
Veichle expenses... zero, i work from home.
Office?...zero, i work from home.
Training...about 600 euros/year for me, plus a lot of free tutorials

I don't know where this list is coming from, but, for me, it seems, a bit unrealistic.
Postage and shipping??? Really???  ;D

Yes, there may be costs on that list which are irrelevant to your particular situation. But when you really examine the cost of business, there's lots of hidden money drains. If you work from home you are probably paying rent or mortgage for the home or room you sleep/work from unless you live with parents. So part of that $ a week you pay for the roof over your head needs to be associated with your expenses ( an accountant will claim this back for you from your taxes paid).

Camera equipment: I'm a videographer, if I don't want to be left behind I need to upgrade my camera every few years. When I first started shooting it was a Sony DSR 570 4:3 (DINOSAUR !), now anything less than 4K video hardly sells, IMO. So there is a need to spend US$10K every 3 or 4 years to upgrade to a quality that buyers are targeting. So spread that over 4 years there is $2500 a year minimum. Same with computer, you might get 5 years out of a computer before it is outdated, dies or struggles with newer rendering demands etc. (even as a motion designer) so the cost of a new hi spec computer spread over 5 years, lets say $700 a year.(and that is without taking into account peripherals, new printer, hard drives etc.)

Vehicle expenses, must come to something, unless you walk or bike everywhere. Train cost, bus, car. If you are living off this microstock as a job then all your movement costs have to be factored in. Going to get groceries, Dr. visits, holidays etc. all drain from your microstock sales. If you are not factoring all these things into your business model then you're probably not paying tax on it, the breaking news for you is: You've got a HOBBY. The Postage and shipping costs do seem strange. Maybe it is an outdated list, back when people posted their stock hard drives to agencies, before FTP servers became a thing.

PS: on a side note, I encourage everyone reading this to dump SS,  don't JUST put your catalogue on hold. Make a statement, remove your content !!!! leaving it on shows them you're rolling on your back for a tummy rub. Submissive. Peace out !

Guess the next blackout will have to be a month long

122
So things to do till now
1. App rating
2. Glassdoor reviews
3. Tweet/mail a publication/journalist
4. Reverse search image, tweet/mail them to not use shutterstock
5. Find a contributor in your nice, make them join

Will start some of these today, would request others to do this as well and spread the word.

Shutterstock has just gone into full head in sand ostrich mode. Silence, some random trolls, paid reviews and tweets and low quality image submissions

Time to implement some of these plans?

Can we all make twitter accounts and retweet all #BoycottShutterstock posts. It seems like a good way to get publications and bigger businesses to notice our problem.

Rather than harping about Shutterstock, maybe it's now time to just direct people to Adobe/pond5/microstock Coalition... Sort of give them a traffic boost

What other ideas should we start now?

On a slightly hilarious note I see stockphotofan1 is still banging the drum for his paymasters  ;D

https://twitter.com/stockphotofan1
Lonely guy . Apparently he's blocked a lot of people so that he/she/it can reply to their tweets without response. Talk about one sided conversation

He has no followers, no likes and just seems to have taken upon himself to answer in shutterstock's place. Since they anyhow don't want to do it themselves

Seems like one more way SS botched their people handling and PR. Or maybe its Stan/Jon's frustration account

Some pictures to illustrate where we are. Collection numbers bouncing back don't tell the story. Searches I tracked back when they started the new scheme have fewer results today than they did then, even though the overall numbers look about the same

The new images that are getting uploaded are not just bad images but they are horribly keyworded and described. Hence the issues with search. My guess, Its just plain pathetic garbage to act as filler to fool the public investors while the shares are offloaded.

The extra commission shows as an earning spike, portfolios  swell, profits go up, sell and run
