Shutterstock.com / Re: SS just screwed up the site again
« on: January 22, 2024, 21:40 »
One strange change for me is that the homepage of the app has stopped updating. It used to show what files were accepted/rejected and also at one point the first time a file sold. Now all it says is "start here to track progress"

As always the question comes down to what we should be doing instead. And unfortunately most of us don't have an alternative figured out yet. So it of habit and compulsion we'll keep sending to stock

3
Yuri gave great examples of how he works, how they do their research and how extensive and authentic the post production is.

Yup, remember learning from a lot of his tips when i had started. He had a free keyworder as well online, plus his commitment to making an amazingly efficient process was otherworldly. I remember some shoot he did to capture some aircraft where he had a ton of flashes pointed at a flying plane to get it lit just right.

General Stock Discussion / Whatever happened to Yuri Arcurs?
« on: November 18, 2023, 06:48 »
Was just going through some old stuff on microstock and came across some vidoes detailing the works and life of Yuri. Whatever happened to him after his apparent departure from microstock? I remember him having a site called people images or soemthing?

Adobe just sent out a mail for uploading images to training their AI datasets. No key wording or relases needed

Sharing the mail below

We are reaching out to let you know that weve enabled a new feature in the Contributor portal to allow some selected contributors to submit content datasets for training Adobes AI and machine learning tools. The new portal feature is called Missions. Our goal is to acquire large volumes of images for specific topics which are explained in the Missions Content brief and for which we pay a fixed amount as published on the Missions tab.

To allow for an easy submission process, we dont require keywording or post processing for these datasets. Neither do we require releases, because we are currently only sourcing content that has no recognizable people or property.

Check out the new Missions feature in the contributor portal and we hope this is of interest to you to participate.

If you have questions, please reach out to [email protected].

Regards,
The Adobe Stock Artist Relations team

- Book cover: $1000
What is a book cover? How did you know it was a Book cover? This photo or video from a drone was bought from you, and where?

Was for this cover taken from my drone, licensed via Arcangel.
Do you only shoot photos with a drone? Are you filming a video?
This site is Arcangel, do you upload only exclusive photos?

I also shoot footage that goes everywhere.

AC are Rights-Managed exclusive.
How did you pass the Arcangel exam? It was easy? Did you link to your stock portfolio?
Would love to know this as well.

Guess SS just wants more content ingested for their AI to learn

Shutterstock is simplifying content standards as per a mail that came in today. Sharing info from the link on the mail

Content Publishing Standards and Policy Updates

Shutterstock is introducing a simplified approach to the standards for content review.

Shutterstock is committed to continuously improving the contributor experience. Last year we focused on rolling out improvements to the contributor platform, which continue into 2023. This year we are turning our attention to simplifying our content review standards and the requirements for getting your submissions approved on our marketplace.

We are starting off with the following changes, which will become effective on April 1, 2023.

No longer required:

Witness information for Model or Property releases will no longer be required.

Reference images for the following content will no longer be required:*

Silhouettes, including photographs with composited silhouettes

Auto-traced vectors

Gradient meshes (non-abstract)

Photos filtered to look like illustrations or used as the basis of an illustration

Low-poly (non-abstract)

Pixel/mosaic art (non-abstract)

Software and license information for 3D renderings of interior spaces will no longer be required (i.e., 3D Interior Property Releases).*

Vintage content (content shot between 1930-1990) will no longer have special release requirements:

Content featuring recognizable models will no longer require an explanation of the contributor's relationship to the model on the Model Release form.

Creative (non-editorial) vintage content will require a standard property release proving you are the owner of the content, but additional information with an explanation of how the contributor became the owner of the content will no longer be required.

Thumbnail previews of the vintage content will no longer be required to be attached to the property release, but are still recommended.

Editorial vintage content will no longer be subject to a property release at all.

*Content submitted with releases that are no longer required after April 1, 2023 will be rejected.

New requirements:

All Model Release forms must include the models date of birth.

The age requirement for models depicted in mature content will be changed from 21 to 18 years of age, to align with industry standards.

All Minor Model Release forms are required to include a parent or legal guardian name.

Note: Any releases submitted after April 1, 2023 and missing the above information will be rejected.

We have published new support articles on Legal Documentation, Intellectual Property, and Contextual Metadata standards to familiarize our contributor community with Shutterstocks streamlined approach to content review. Existing articles on content review will also be updated to reflect the new standards and requirements.

Change is never easy, but we hope that these improvements designed to simplify and streamline your content submission workflows will be a welcome one. We will continue to update this article as new resources become available. In the meantime, if you have any questions or feedback, be sure to contact us!

Was the price for Exclusive video content always 60%
That's what i remember

10
As I understand... they want the control of the price... which is bed to me.
It was cool that with Pond5 we could have very high proces for some very nice hard to get footage.
Now what ?

"3. Pricing and Your Share of Net License Revenue

You have the option to set the price of your Content. However,

we will have sole discretion to adjust the price of any Content to maximize your overall revenue performance or comply with our minimum pricing guidelines;"

I am not a Pond5 contributor, but from what I have read from other contributors this is not new. Contributors were often complaining about Pond5 selling their videos for much lower prices than what they themselves had set the prices to.
This has been true for a while. Especially the whole lower pricing for smaller countries fiasco where Pond5 would sell at much lower rates in certain countries

11
So it officially starts, received a mail today saying that there is an update to the contributor agreement with SS being added as a party to the agreement

The % royalties remain the same for now but I see a clause for flexible pricing for subscription etc at their discretion (not sure if this was there earlier)

12
And knowing shutterstock they will try and push their AI created art and price it at pennies. Contributors fund pennies might just become the new subscription sales with us looking forward to the ocassional 10c sale

I'm guessing video will be next, so we'll all have to figure out some next steps to ensure we stay afloat

Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock - Open AI deal : tool rollout
« on: January 26, 2023, 06:42 »
https://techcrunch.com/2023/01/25/after-inking-its-openai-deal-shutterstock-rolls-out-a-generative-ai-toolkit-to-create-images-based-on-text-prompts/

"When Shutterstock and OpenAI announced a partnership to help develop OpenAIs Dall-E 2 artificial intelligence image-generating platform with Shutterstock libraries to train and feed the algorithm, the stock photo and media giant also hinted that it would soon be bringing its own generative AI tools to users. Today the company took the wraps off that product. Customers of Shutterstocks Creative Flow online design platform will now be able to create images based on text prompts, powered by OpenAI and Dall-E 2." - an excerpt from the article

The strange part is that while all other AI tools say that the person making the image has full rights to the image, Shutterstock says the created images are ready to license as soon as they are created

14
Bumping this up, i made an account there and somehow wss never able to figure out the get another person to help with metadata. So not much up there at this moment and zero sales

Have any of you had more luck there? I'm guessing it makes a ton of sense with the shutterstock tier system

15
I am always surprised that people look at their dashboards, and that agencies waste so much time breaking them in new ways. I use a third party app for stats, it would take too long going through all the agencies individually.
What app have you been using for this? How much are the payments or is it free

Stockperformer, microstockanalytics, microstckanalytics+(a different app from microstockanalytics,  I think from stocksubmitter people) and microstockr to name a few. I believe some of these have free options for smaller portfolios.
Are these for windows? Android (tried searching on play store and can't seem to find this for some strange reason)

16
Seems like a much better response than others like SS which have stopped people from uploading AI art, and then have turned around and said that they will make it themselves, giving a very unclear payment structure method.

I guess its evolution, and its upto the artist to learn how to best manage this tool and get something amazing. Its the same as saying that just buying the most expensive DSLR does not automatically make you an artist same will be with this.

The better question is where do we start learning? And what software to pick up?

Shutterstock.com / Re: What a cool SS, how well he sells
« on: November 12, 2022, 03:23 »
These are all from Blackbox, but as SS is the only place that does licenses that high, then they may as well be screenshots of SS earnings... but just 15% higher. Will that do you? Now, if you could just provide proof that SS gave you sales due to you emailing them, that everybody you've spoken to has experienced a massive drop in earnings, that SS are stealing etc etc... to demonstrate you're not a liar... that would be much appreciated.
This is spectacular stuff, I've never even heard of a 1k+ sale. More power to people like you

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe profits more than double in latest quarter
« on: November 07, 2022, 08:45 »
Adobe is killing my earnings with those small sales. Much worse then Shutterstock  >:(

I've notice, that while people selling photos are raving about Adobe, but as a video creator my earnings at Adobe (despite of increasing portfolio) still decrease. While on SS I'm doubling my earnings every year, mostly because of those 150-300$/video sales
Yup, the $2 video sales have been absolutely disheartening. Adobe used to be an amazing place for vidoes, but this seems to be a massive step (along with the $8 buyout for free collection) in the race to the bottom

20
Search google books for your name and user names. Also "copyright YOUR NAME"
Thanks for the tip, tried this. The only issue is that google shows me the appendix where my name ks mountings and often not the place where the image is actually used

I second the thought that its usually good to see how an image was used. Can help come up with new ideas and often helps give ideas for new variations if the same pic. The process is hard for pics and i don't think there is any way to do this for videos.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Working together to lead the way with AI
« on: October 26, 2022, 05:46 »
This also means the other agencies will follow this trend. Also images are the property of who clicked them, are AI generated images the property of the company? If so then I'm guessing they'll be flooding their ports all over

22
Its always been hard to see where the pics you've sold have been used. My goto has been a google image search.

Recently started to use https://tineye.com/ and its been a good find. Usually gets me more results than a google reverse image search.

What else have you all been using and is there something similar for vidoes as well?

23
I also recommend storyblocks, but it's not easy to get there either.
I actually left storyblocks when the entire subscription thing happened. For some time it was giving me decent sales but it had started plummeting so it was an easy choice

General Stock Discussion / Re: This month's sales
« on: October 04, 2022, 09:50 »
Super stuff, you and @steveheap are my must reads at the start of every month. A more pragmatic realistic look vs the more pushy "buy my course" kinds on YouTube and facebook
