The rates are indeed an insult. However, like most of us, I do microstock for a profit, so I have a look at the numbers.
In terms of revenue, IS is the second highest earner. In terms of RPI, it's the first, ex-aequo with SS. In terms of RPD, it fluctuates, but it's usually the second or the third, after Alamy and SS.
So, yes, I have the feeling IS is taking a lot from me, and that the way they treat us is outrageous. However, there are some financial reasons explaining why I'm staying... more or less the same reasons that push me to have a main job where I'm not very well treated...
same for me +1

I afraid the same will happen with videos in a very close future (2-3 years) as it is happening now with images. However I am shooting more and more videos now, and it really pays off. Videos give me 3-5 times more profit when compared with photos from the same trip. But it takes me 1-2 weeks to post process all the videos, and 1-2 months to do the same with the images. And video sales went from 0 to 600-700$ a month very quickly. Of course it is not comparable with my photo portfolio, nevertheless it looks promising.
Yes i agree, maybe a bit more then 2-3 years. But i'm enjoying the moment. Congratulation for your result

because you think that movie or cgi or motion design will give u forever 29 dollar 39 79...ahahah good luck soon you will realize the hard truth...video like photos will be sold for penny and competition will kill your earning...it's the same as photos, you can see already agency going sub, selling video for penny, soon even video will be a complete disaster. alternative is a business made with direct customer who pay lot of money for single job.
i'm not saying that cg or motion design will stay forever...obviously they will evolve to something else...maybe something like vr or interactive videos or... But, a talented photographer or motion designer will always find a job. I love microstock but, if i'll find my earnings fall, i'll move to something else.

For me new images sell after a few days/weeks, but new videos take at least 6 month to roll out. But overall, i'm happy with my earnings, growing every year. Full time since 2012. I live in Italy (Expensive North Italy). Honestly, i think that if you are a photographer you are out of game due to competition (unless your are a top one with expensive models and locations or if you have a niche). The future is movie quality footage and stills. Yes, lot of expenses, but i know several people doing well, so... Alternatives? motion graphics, cg animations, templates. This is a dynamic business and i think that you must adapt to it to be succesful. This is what i'm trying to do. Best wishes to all!

hi all, i'm an emerald contributor of Fotolia/AS with growing sales. I'm a motion designer focused on 3d/2d motion design and infographics. My new works sell better then my older ones. I think that the key is regular upload and high (very high) quality content. Complainig on this forum, for me, is a waste time and not a productive way to conduct this business. But...you are free to spend you time as you wish

My pov is that high quality content = sales! I don't know about photos or real footage, but for illustrations and motion graphics this is the key. No search algorithm or voodoo rituals...simply creative high quality content. But i'm happy to listen to other motion designers inputs. ...Maybe i'm wrong but i suspect that the same rule apply to others types of content. Sorry for my terrible english

SS growth for me. Video sales almost every day, also on weekend. Seems that buyers love (high quality) motion graphics
I don't like the money either. What I really like is to be an slave and to get tons of stupid rejections.
ahahah! i understand. I'm at about 95% accepted, and i love money, because microstock is my main income. I like this job, i work when i want and where i want. I submit new content every day (2/3 videos). Low exepenses, i update my pc every 3 years, and the last 2 years adobe cc is free for me. Oh and i live in a modern country (not third world). I hope that my positive attitude don't hurt anyone
