I suppose if  they're no longer competing against each other on price then they can work together to stabilise prices. Continual lower selling prices is not good for the agency either. As long as our percentage of a sale doesn't decrease further then this merger might not be bad for contributors.

Here's another of Sydney from the top of the first page search results.

Since when did Circular Key vanish!  ;D ;D ;D

I've posted an actual photograph below where you can see the blatant embarrassing error of this IA image and the equally blatant embarrassing acceptance of this in Adobe Stock's library...

My week ended up pretty well with another 5 video sales. Position still the same so maybe it hasn't updated yet or everyone else is beginning to see an increase in sales as we move more into the new year....

105
yeaaahhhhh .. you tube wont pay a dime ... we should give them our videos for free  ;D
they say: YouTube isn't facilitating payments between third-party companies and creators or other rights holders at this time.

Yeh just went and read the information from your link above. I'm all for charity but for those who need it, not multi-million/multi-billion dollar third-party companies. What a joke.

Doesnt surprise me. I was reading an article in a broadsheet the other day about complaints that the internet was being buried by poor quality AI imagery. I could also imagine a lot of buyers will become fed up because, lets face it, while there are some good AI images there is also a lot of rubbish and it must be a PITA wading through all that just to find something good countless times a day (image buyers for advertising agencies etc).

I was watching a Youtube video the other day (and of course I forgot who I watched now) and they claimed that Youtube is not promoting videos with AI content but rather original human-sourced content. Now that is a simplistic recollection of what was said but I see that if this is indeed the situation and online creators have identified experiencing this, whether that is on Youtube or any other platform, then the demand for AI will naturally fall.

i dont know if it's a new feature but yesterday i logged in my yt account to upload a video and there was a notice on top page saying that from now you can decide if your yt videos will be "given away" for ai training ... it's an option in the account settings ...

Yes I saw that too and your post just reminded to go check in studio settings it is not an opt out arrangement. Turns out it is set to opt in so left the check box blank. Seriously though, no earnings for creators to opt into this?

My rank has improved a fair bit since my post above with just 3 additional sales. It must be slow for everyone generally. I hope it picks up next week too but as it is Adobe seems to be the agency that is shining a bit brighter than the others for me so far this year.

Something I thought of earlier, could the association of Shutterstock with iStock do some damage to iStock's reputation among its customers and therefore have adverse impacts on its business?

Congratulations Zerotalent on what looks like a good year with (as Wilm mentioned) the modest size of your portfolio. Downward trend doesn't look too bad considering too the few uploads.

Stocker2014, Zerotalent probably doesn't want to show his portfolio or nor does he have to. His work is high quality and hence the income to upload ratios. However, why don't you show us any of your data? Never see any posts from you except you crying about not having enough assets selected for Adobe's free selection offer and telling us how much you love Vladdy-meer Pootin and wishing you could be sitting on his lap and listening to his bedtime stories of the good old days of the Soviet Union.

Feel like it is picking up this week following the holiday period slowdown with this being the best week of earnings in 4 weeks on the trend line.

Position is still low but RPD is good.

Position is 15,850, total number of files is 3510.

Adobe is winning without changing anything, because they understand the producers are their partners, not their enemy.

Indeed, very well said.

What happened to Shutterstock Inc share price? The euphoria didn't last long.

I see this as Shutterstock admitting defeat.

I thought after the 2021 stock coalition attempt that it didn't work out. Well turns out it did. Quite surprising to see that the number of irate contributors following the cash grab were themselves customers, or know customers personally or worked for customers who were large organization subscribers.

The message got out there and collectively a sizeable part of Shutterstock's customer base left, probably redirecting their business to Adobe, and thus never to return, and along with that, their share price and profits with it.

Not that I think iStock is much better so I suppose this 'merger' is like birds of the same feather.

I'll take learnings from odesigns way over stocker2014 with regard to these topics. Good point about giving the prospective customer options.

Stocker2014, maybe if you thought more about what the customers needs are rather than your presumptions, you wouldn't be hanging on every last bit of what you can get from the free selections or data set earnings, and be selling much more of your contents.

Whoah! First I've heard of this. I should be reading the news and forums more.  ;D

Luka Azman on Youtube www.youtube.com/@LukaAzman is (in his own words) 'a full time stock photographer and videographer' and exclusive to iStock.

I've reached out to him on his channel to ask how he feels about microstock and again just now to ask how he feels about the merger but lately he has not been answering my questions.  :-\

Shutterstock needed to be quiet after taking over Pond5 - though I get it needs to be public info for legal reasons. The problem is likely a number of dissatisfied customers of Shutterstock are also customers of Pond5 and when they caught on to Shutterstock taking over, they just left Pond5 too. The result is already weakening sales have now become rare as hen's teeth. Falling sales, falling prices and falling commissions presents a threefold blow to contributors and consequent huge fall in earnings.

Yes- I would be in a world of hurt if I hadn't started uploading to Adobe. I quit uploading to iStock for a while as i loathe their low commission rates and cheap sales, but with the massive fall of SS it has helped cushion the blow

How is your motivation for continuing m-stock generally? Are you still uploading?

120
Was gonna say when I read your post earlier - the pre-edited version - that you'd likely see more sales of your video if you transferred it my hard drive than on Pond5 exclusive.  ;D

121
tomorrow is still christmas in many places and others have taken time off.

lets see what happens.

also...trump is chaos, people are holding back on spending.

Have you too seen a similar slower start this year?

122
This time last year on Adobe Stock I had earned $43.15. This year for the same period $3.79. Not a good start at all. Yeh it's early days but with hundreds more contents and steep fall is not a good sign.

I thought somebody might find this interesting. I primarily produce videos with a portfolio pushing 14, 000 clips on P5, but have around 7, 000 images on various agencies. To give the graph some meaning my peak sales year was 2018 with sales of approx $40, 000

Interesting indeed. Would it be fair to say it looks like Shutterstock has fallen a lot since your peak while Adobe Stock has increased providing some overall stability to your yearly earnings?

124
Should this proceed, it would appear the microstock industry battle lines are being drawn up into two with one being the conglomerate of iStock / Shutterstock and all its marketplaces and the other Adobe Stock.

I'm not a trader so have little understanding of it but wondering why Shutterstock would want to do this merger with iStock when they would be merging with a company that has a lot lower share price (currently GETY at $2.39 and SSTK at $31.47)?

125
My start of the year is reeeaaaaaallllly slow too. Haven't even bothered to open my spreadsheet to update the sales. I just looked at the January 2024 calendar (which started a lot better than this year) and I see there were 4 working week-days following the Christmas shutdown period before the weekend whereas this year 2025 there were only 2 working week-days following shutdown period before the weekend. Well that's the way I'm looking at it  :) because the alternative is that the market is sinking deeper and it heralds a crap year forward. Still very early days in the new year.
