Hopefully once there download special at the buyers end is over, it will give us a better idea how well it is going to do.

I definitly will have to get a better look at www.jalbum.net
:)

Thanks

They have alot of different type "skins" as they call them. When you are on the main page at the top there is a download buttom. There are two links up there. One is for the software itself and the other is to the skins. Thats where you can go and see how these skins look. The site has changed so it's a little harder to navigate now.

The way I look at it is this...if you were not willing to take the small commision for that shot or any other shot then why would you even put them in microstock. You pretty well know up front that is the risk you are taking. If twitter hadn't bought that image they would have bought another..I really doubt they would go to a RM site to purchase it.

I haven't had a chance to look at the other sites yet, but jalbum has what they call sins and they are free to download and use with their software. Most of te skins are geared towards photographers. I create the setting for the skin I want on the software that they provide with the skins, then put them into Frontpage and add and change whatever I want to with it, then upload them to the server.

Here is my webpage so you can get an idea of what you can do with it. The skin I used wasthe cameline...I think that's how it is spelled. Anyway don't make fun of my site because I haven't even messed with it in over two years. It will giveyou some idea of what you can do.

Me too...it's kinda of confusing because they say it will be in force untill April 1st then say "for the users who have registered until March 1st, 2010." I wonder if  that was suppose to be "before" March 1st rather tan "until"??

Not to mention testosterone.  ::)

Heh what about menopause?

I'm still at the PMS phase, but if that's any indication menopause will be Hell....  On my husband ;)
I don't have that problem since they jerked everything out of me several years ago... :D I guess I just lucked out. ;D

The thing I like about film is that you have a physical object. Those negatives will last a very long time whereas digital will only last as long as there is a hard drive and a server. I have boxes and boxes of them. I rarely print out my pictures since I went digital. I use to but don't hardly do it anymore.

I'll have to go check all those out. I need to redo my two year old website. I've always used jalbum because of the application software that comes with, it makes it easy for me to use the skin I want and then add it to my web pages. I'm gonna go check out these others. :)

General Stock Discussion / Website with web design templates
« on: March 04, 2010, 22:27 »
I posted this in another thread where it didn't really belong, but for those of you that don't have a website and are interested in designing your own, go check out jalbum. It has free templates on there that you can use to design your webpages and it's free so it doesn't cost you nothing. All you need is a little knowledge on web design. I use it my website and really like it. They have alot to choose from and have some good looking designs.

www.jalbum.net

you can click on the download button on the top and it will show two links. Go to the "Skins" link to see what they have.

But I did end up with 9 ignores because of mine. But that's alright I'm not going to dwell on it.

Don't sweat the ignores, Donna.  We all get them...  Only way to avoid it is to never have an opinion, and how dull would that be?  :)

If I was sweating them I'd be dehydrated by now....lol.. ::)

This has gotten way off topic, Gene.  I am offering a Why for the conflict suggested in Lisa's initial post.  Donding tried the same post in slightly different wording and was skewered for simply being too new to have an opinion.  Lisa offers practically the same opinion with rave reviews.  That is what I see as the basis for a lot of the tension.

My point was ... being new to MicroStock is no reason to assume the person is ignorant to the world selling images ... micro or otherwise.  As a famous comedian once said, "I get no respect."   ::)

Well, with respect, I didn't see Donna getting "skewered" and I don't see anything like "rave reviews" here.

All I have seen in either thread is people genuinely offering their opinions on the level of civility (or lack) around here, and also theories as to why that is.

ETA:  I did not think my OP was redundant of Donna's, as she was expressing frustration about being personally bashed. Whereas I don't feel particularly attacked myself, but am more interested in the newbie vs. pro battle that seems totally counterproductive to me.

Lisa...the bashing I was referring to wasn't directed at me when I made the original post and later on down the post I came back and clarified that and said what I was concerned about was that the forum was beginning to take the turn of alot of the stock forums. I wasn't refering to everyone on here. Here is what I said in the second post

"I just want to clarify things that I should have done when I originally posted and I apologize for that. The bashing that was going on, was not directed at me, but some others on the forum. As most of you have pointed out, this is the best forum to partake in and that is very true thanks to Leaf. He has done a great job. I have also been to the other forums and know what it is like there. They are not the friendliest places. That was the point I was trying to make. I just dont want this forum to turn out like those and that is my main concern. The majority of people on here are considerate. Like I said before Im not going to single out people and point fingers here. That is a lot of the problem that I was referring to. I didnt post to provoke people....even though it seems like that is what I  have done. I just felt these problems need to be addressed and I hope you understand that."

I really think your post here was alot better put than mine. But I did end up with 9 ignores because of mine. But that's alright I'm not going to dwell on it.

It helps to hear from a buyers perspective. I don't buy so don't know one site from another, but I am curious what there is about  iStock's search system keeps you away from them?

It is frustrating because of the extra "did you mean" clicks that it takes to get to get relevant results. Also I don't find what I am looking for because it doesn't allow conceptual keywords.

I didn't know that about conceptual keywords. I guess I need to quit putting those keywords in. :-\

I'm a "one man band" and I used to buy from StockXpert. Now that they are gone the way of the dinosaur, I shop at Dreamstime. You couldn't pay me to shop at iStock because of their search.

The web address is still the same....maybe they are changing it over...at the bottom it says Bigstock and Bigstockphotos is owned by Shutterstock.

Actually, bigstockphotos.com is now redirected to bigstock.com, so the web address has changed. Though I suspect they will keep the redirect "forever".

Mine doesn't redirect it...it still goes to www.bigstockphotos.com, if it was redirecting wouldn't it be going to www.bigstock.com? . Am I misunderstanding something??

Edit: I posted before I read the rest...seems to be explained...Just disregard. ::)

Since it seems most of these flags came from 2007....did they have the 2 cent deal back then? I thought that was something recent..either that or time has flown by unnoticed by me.

It seems to me the sites that do better and look better are the ones that change their main page pictures regularly. I agree some redesign needed to be done, but why didn't they try to change the first pictures that pop up everytime you visit the site. I don't care for the new design. iStock does pretty good with it, it shows variety and doesn't look like you are looking at the same ol same ol.

Oh I loved that one......wonder how many people really think like that.... ;D ;D ;D

Do you think buyers loyalty is directed at one site or do they shop around on all the different sites? I guess the real question is would a buyer shift through the images on one site that they are loyal to and if they couldn't find that "perfect" image there, would they go searching elsewhere or just purchase a "well I guess that's good enough" image at that one site.

I closed my account back on Feb 4th....all I want is my payout.....which I'm still waiting for!!

not worth the 0.25$ to continue?
I upload the same photos to all the sites so it really wouldn't do me any good since they are already on iStock, besides I doubt alot of the ones that made it on StockXpert that weren't accepted at IStock would even be transferred because of the quality. So I just ask to close my account and get my final payout.
