thank you for your advice, it is very useful for every newcomer.

for my opinion this kind of approval is not really served the purpose, unless it is like istock that keep you from trying with certain period. Some people who takes it for fun may never come back.

something comes to my mind, what is the point a new microstock website rejects some people that had been contributed to other website with certain amount of portfolio, i mean i am sure they are good enough for contributing, why waste both reviewer time and contributors time?

Because the sheer volume of microstockers out there means that there is always going to be someone better at it than you, that's why they can afford to reject people now. With so many people contributing, the cream of the crop has risen. The sites are skimming them off and dumping the rest. Good enough doesn't cut it anymore when they can have excellence. Why clog up the bandwidth and take a port of say a measly 500 photos, even if a small amount make good money, when they have a ton of contributors with thousands in their port with hundreds making good money? Simple math.

i am sure just re-applied and it will get approved. maybe it is time for microstock to admit some guys who had portfolio to show, instead of just having this meaningless 'approval' procedures.

may i 'shamelessly' request anyone to give me some opinions of my images? is it that kind of images that is demand in RM market? thank you.

hi oldhand, thank you for taking time to read and answer my questions.

i had tried to sell few photos of those in dreamstime, shutterstock, 123rf.. but it just sell as few cents. That's why i am thinking maybe there is no demand of photos like that in microstock.

so in RM market, do you think i should get model release whenever i can? sometimes i feel that a lot of people will sign for it but they won't really understand what a model release means, even everything is written on paper. I guess if i explain to them that the photos can be sold and maybe used in some product cover, commercial promotion.. guess most people will think twice. But it is also difficult to decide how much to pay them even without a sale of their photos.

once a photo had been sold as RF in microstock or any agency, it shouldn't be sold as RM license again, right? it seems i have to decide to sell them in microstock as RF or macro as RM..

does RM has to be exclusive to agency? or can sell as non-exclusive?

General Stock Discussion / where i should sell my images?
« on: July 16, 2010, 03:03 »
Hello all,

I had been done this microstock for a few months, i started as i have been taking pictures for quite some time but just on film. So i have some problem for images being noise and grainy. Anyway, i took up some vector illustrations until i got my first DSLR.

However i found out that photos i usually took didn't do it quite well in microstock like dreamstime or shutterstock.

what i like to do is mostly travel style photo, street photography. I happened to read that some editorial type photo may have more demands in RM license, macro stock? so i think maybe i had put my photos in wrong market. I don't mean my photos should get paid more but i just try to find a market that sell my photos and i can still take that kind of photos. If you don't mind please check my gallery so you have some ideas what kind of photos i got. some of it are negative scanned so please ignore the grainy quality, it is for you to get some idea what kind of photos i refer to.

is most RM license are sold as editorial images? is it useful to obtain Model release for travel style photos? hope you all can give me some directions. thank you.

Veer / veer - price range
« on: July 15, 2010, 22:40 »
hi all,

I notice searching through images in veer, there are images with different price range, are they different like cheaper range are RF license, and more expensive are RM licences?

I remember before veer marketplace is different from veer? is VMP before just for RF? and veer is for RM? so now since VMP is gone and veer put all kind of images together?

are we allowed to set the price range? or even upload RM license images to veer?

Veer / Re: Introducing the new Veer
« on: July 15, 2010, 21:52 »
so you mean the keywords that shows at image profile under 'your member page' is not important? and is not the only keywords that is searchable? but i go a rice terraces photo, i had put 'rice terrace' and 'rice terraces' both as keywords but it is not showing in the image profile in 'your member page', and it is not able to get found by searching rice terraces... something isn't right.

Brian-
I have a shot of paint cans on the site. The keywords include  cans , paint and a bunch of others. When I search for paint cans, the shot is not in the results. When I search for paint, cans ( comma added ) it shows up. When i search for cans paint it shows up ( with or without the comma). What's up with that? I just want someone searching for paint cans to find it ( and buy it!)
image id#1524660

Lots of keyword questions instead of questions about the new site - that's ok!  ;)

For general keyword questions try this thread on our group on Veer Ideas:
http://ideas.veer.com/group/marketplace/discussions/89

For questions on keyword issues specific images - please consider emailing Ryan at [email protected] .

Some additional background:  your terms are mapped to our CV (controlled-vocabulary) during the ingest process. This can mean there may be fewer search terms that show up on the site - but you are getting the benefit of tons of lead-ins and walkups built into the CV.

As far as "paint cans" vs "pain, cans"  - it's important to try and get keyphrases like this (or "white background") entered into system as a single term - without comma between the words. We have CV terms for "paint" and "cans" as well as "paint cans". It looks like in this case "paint can" is missing.  I'll forward this to our CV/keywording team to see if they have a better explanation.

well,  sometime it has become like you understand you have a choice not to 'like' some website. =) like you will feel you are exploited for spend sometime to 'upload' for the website, and only get paid in few years.

You start to support a website that is fair, giving more returns, you know you may lose some $ from the website that is slow in sales but you won't mind that little money.

Adobe Stock / Re: vector eps cheaper that M size jpg
« on: July 14, 2010, 11:54 »
so do they pay more for svg? i don't think i will submit another format just for fotolia.

However, i really find it strange that what kind of strategy that sell eps more than a M size jpg.

I tried to understand it, since both agency and contributors want to earn money so i am sure fotolia doesn't do it just to lose money. It seems like a strange strategy.. hope they are doing something if it is not successful.

Hi Brian,

i found something unusual, the keywords of my images are seem to have reduced by reviewers? one images i only left with 6 keywords, and when i check the IPTC data is 12 keywords, and i won't submit an images with less than 10 keywords.

do you have an explanation of it? it happens to few images but i haven't check through every image.

I tried to check again, the keywords of images are completed if you see it under 'approved' images of dashboard, if you click the image and check the keywords through the member page, the keywords are not completed.

just deactivate all my files since it is really low view and slow sales, i got 1 sale but it was 'returned sale' so i am back to zero.

Just decide to deactivate all files first, instead of stuck with few dollars for a website.

New Sites - General / about zoonar
« on: July 11, 2010, 03:37 »
hi guys, anyone of you are in zoonar?

I started it when they offer the 0.15c euro for accepted images.

the promotion is still going on. I wish i have a referral link that can help me earn, but i think you can only earn the affiliate by linking to your own website.

anyway, just would like to discuss about zoonar?
overall i think it is quite good, the uploading is the easiest, you choose all your files and submitted it, the accepted one will appear in your account in usually 1 days.

You need to choose to join the polylooks partner program in order to get the 0.15c.

i notice you can join 2 other partner programs too, but not too sure what is that.

the sale is there, i don't have a big portfolio but get like 2 subs sale and a 4 euro sale through zoonar itself.

i think you can choose to sell your image as RM too.. and not with microstock price.

what i think it can be improved is adding some tools for statistic, like i can only see the layout pages of my most hits image, but without telling me how many views, and i haven't found how can i view my sales performance by months.

and wish they add a portfolio gallery to see all your images, currently you can see 100 images a page by rows.

more?

Adobe Stock / vector eps cheaper that M size jpg
« on: July 11, 2010, 03:14 »
hi all,

so i just notice that eps vector in fotolia is cheaper than M size jpg? i thought eps vector is considered more flexible for designer and can have far more usefulness than jpg, and it is also like selling your 'raw' design, that people can learn how you make something, steal part of it..or just modify part of it..so it is a valuable resource.

why it is sold as cheaper? i don't think any other agencies sell it as cheaper than M size jpg.

is that fotolia strategy? do you think it is successful?

Adobe Stock / Re: Should I raise my EL prices?

I notice that i can't set the price higher and maximum for me is 40 credits. is it because i am under 100 downloads?

Adobe Stock / Re: Hahaha, 2 EL's for $3.92 each, lol
« on: July 11, 2010, 02:05 »
can anyone explain more of this price issue? do we need to edit something so we don't get paid low price for enhanced license? what price you set? shutterstock is $28 i think.

123RF / Re: Nobody upset with 123RF lack of transparency?
« on: July 09, 2010, 21:11 »
a quiet site, i think the forum can be searched in google but I also can't find the link from main website.

Basically i find it is lower class website which doesn't have a forum, such as depositphotos too, no place to meet other contributors and ask questions and complain.

Lighting / Re: How much to charge?

just charge base on the day rate, like how many days you will finish all the task, 2 weeks or 1 month, then finish it like a short term assignment.

Veer / thumbnail appears as very small
« on: July 06, 2010, 11:45 »
Hi all,

I notice that veer marketplace had problem to generate some of my eps vector file, the thumbnail is very small, or just not the right size. it happens to some eps vector, some are okay.

I had sent them emails before to fix those files but it is still unsolved, maybe they are too busy.

Just wonder anyone of you got the same problem? any solution?

General Stock Discussion / model release questions
« on: July 06, 2010, 11:33 »
hi all,

I am curious that what the special requirements to every agencies that you submitted?

I read that using getty image model release form is accepted to every agencies.

I don't take a lot of people shot but i would like to upload some travel shots with model release.

I have some questions:

1. do we have to submit different date of model release form for same model?
2. i know it needs a 3rd person as witness for the form, do we need more thing to witness the model release is legal? such as a photo of model holding the form?
3. will it be rejected if the address is general without details? i find some address of some rural places is not very precise.

anything else i need to take note?
