Finally got it.  I only hope this is the last time I have to email them 4 times just to get paid after a 6 week delay.

I've got someone in customer service emailing the accounting dept for me, in addition to their regular support ticket.  There has to be something wrong here.  I've been with them since day one, a gold contributor; I mean why all of the sudden the delay?  It's not like the payout is an exceptionally large one, either.  Some sort of glitch or somebody may have dropped the ball.

For me, the best solution sometimes is to clean the sensor and reshoot... but obviously this isn't always so simple.  I'll have to check out those methods posted above, great stuff!

I'll tell you one thing; their payouts have slowed drastically.  I've just emailed them for the third time.  I've been waiting until today for my payout which i requested on 2/3... 37 days ago

This is unacceptable, after receiving timely payouts for almost 10 years already.

A week more goes by.. still no payment.

Come on, already!  Time to send another email.

It's been over a month for me, waiting for January earnings.  I can't request Feb earnings until the January earnings are paid out - so I just sent a second email to support.  I don't understand why there is beginning to be a delay after not having any issues for the last 10 years.

Maybe it's Adobe's fault.   ;D

Excellent :)  Thank you Niakris  :D

Just a small bug I noticed... I was submitting a batch of 80 images to Alamy, and the list was so long that the yes/no buttons were pushed off the screen.  (see screenshot)

My solution was just to smack the spacebar key, as a workaround.  Hope that helps.  Maybe in the future an update can reformat this list into columns/rows so that the box fits on the screen.  (My desktop resolution is 1920 x 1200)

I wasted time submitting to a few "contests" as well, and then lost interest.

Too bad they don't give contributors stock options based on sales ...

You read my mind.  Still kicking myself for not buying up shares at the IPO.  The current price may be a good buying opportunity, with a lot of "gap" to fill back up to SSTK's all time high.  As an investor, I'd still wait until things base a bit more, before going long.  The 6-month chart still shows the stock in a steady trend slightly downward.  This could be MM's pushing it down for a nice momo run on bullcrap news for a quick, nice 25-50% gain, as well.  The stock market is too much like gambling, to me.  I decided I'm better off sticking to stock images, for the most part :) You'd think with all the positive news, the stock would be trending back north.

Has anyone here ever traded SSTK?  Daily, long term, or swing?  It makes sense to invest in what you know.  I've seen many 5%+ gain type days, if you can catch it right.  Beats throwing your savings into an IRA or CD, with current bank rates.  But it could always go the opposite way, too... so use your stops.

Every red carpet contributor just got really happy :) Especially those living in hollywood, beverly hills, and NYC.  For the rest of us, we'll just say congrats and cheer from the sidelines.  ;D

I feel like I'm having deja vu... (the last google drive/istock licensing agreement).  I seriously hope $2 isn't all we're going to get for adsense users to have full reign to plaster our image's thumbnails all over the internet.  $2 per use; that would be incredible.  I hope Dreamstime allows us to opt out of the google adsense program.  I am interested in the other partnerships, but not one like this.

February / March, the action will be back.  These last few months have sucked.

Adding Photospin would be a huge help, as they have no ftp upload.  Sales there are slowing down, but still a place I'd like to submit to.

One time my firewall had blocked the installer or updater, and I had to manually add it to the "trusted" list.

My recommendation is to stick to the XXD series to start, just because you are getting a solidly built camera body made of magnesium that also fits larger hands a lot better than the Rebel series.  The rebels are plastic, but also solidly built.. but no review wheel controls on back, which was also deal breaker for me.  With the XXD series around the same prices as the rebels, used... it all comes down to personal preference.  Nikons are just as competent.  I just went Canon because I could swap lenses with my friends.

Off Topic / Re: UAS and Model Aircraft - AKA "Drones"
« on: January 13, 2015, 11:30 »
It's the injury part (and the invasion of privacy) that concerns me. It's great that drones were able to capture news events, but IMO it's just a matter of time before a news drone crashes and hurts or kills someone. In the U.S. general aviation planes crash every day. Someone is killed in one or by one a few times a week. I wish the FAA would regulate those a lot more, to be honest. I just don't want to see these things (drones) crashing into people. On the other hand, I do think they're cool and useful and fun; we just need regulations to be sure they're operated safely.

I hadn't even thought of that.  Batteries and guidance systems can fail, and anything with a few lbs of weight could potentially be as dangerous as a falling tree branch from a high elevation.

An ex Microsoft executive and his son recently crashed his private airplane into a home and killed 3, I believe, including a few children.  My sister lives a few streets over.  I was on the phone with her at the time.  She smelled the smoke, heard all of the sirens from the rescue crews, and wondered what was going down.  That could have been her house, just as well!  One of the joys of living a few minutes away from an airport, I guess.

There are hazards that come even with driving our cars down the road, which are all potentially death hazards to pedestrians and others on the road, even when we've done our best to maintain them.  It's probably no difference when it comes to operating UAV's and the responsibility that comes with it; it's just a new area to have to think about.  You will definitely want to be full insured and be sure your insurance covers that sort of situation...

As cool as it would be to get one of these and start producing a ton of great aerial footage, I'd be really scared of the legal consequences if spotted flying one in a public area.  Especially metropolitan/urban areas.  In the country, not so much.

The purple fringing in background is caused by the lens attached to that thing.  Certain DSLR lenses are even notorious for CA (chromatic aberration) as well, but never usually as bad as cell phone cameras/point and shoots.

If you want to go Canon, you can grab a 40D body super cheap now, $200-300 or less.  Grab an 18-55 IS or 50mm f1.8 to start, and you'll be in business.  The quality difference will initially blow you away compared to your point and shoot.  But remember, buying a fancy stove never instantly makes you a great cook.  It takes practice practice practice.
