I think all those that do not label their image can be stopped very easy.
First time you get caught with a single image not labeled 1 month suspension of the account. Second time 6 months. Third time for life.
The problem ends tomorrow.
Its not that easy - you have to catch them first. On AS (and worse, SS) the sheer quantity of stuff means little or no human involvement or time to work out what is and isnt real. Then the banning issue. On the FB groups there's a huge trade in people buying/selling accounts either before it gets banned or acquiring a new account after getting the last few banned. Its everywhere (usual geo regions).

The usual sub-continent FB groups they AI spammers have noticed that sales are better from non-ai images as they're more attractive to buyers so have started doing exactly that, not labelling.
(As well as submitting to agencies that dont allow AI at all).
After I looked at the FB group, those people couldn't make a real image, if their life depended on it. They copy, flip, use stolen images for inspiration, then use AI to make new trash. All they do is spam and ask how to make money. There's no effort at all.
Indeed. But what they lack in talent and ethics they make up for in bulk. They want free, zero effort text prompt spam and instant money.

Very useful for stabilising handheld shots of things and so on with slowing.
+100 So slow it down yourself, because when a buyer sees your jerky video at 60 or 120 fps, he will be horrified and will not buy it. He will not think about what will happen if slow down your video. Moreover, some video buyers (if not most) do not know how to do what you do and do not understand why they should do your work.
A buyer isnt going to see a jerky video at 60 or 120 fps. They see a normal video and the frame rate listed so they know they can slow it down. The whole point is you can slow down 60/120fps far better than 30 or whatever. You have extra frames to play with. It slows down far better with higher quality. If they dont want to slow it down they dont have to. Their NLE will automatically and effortlessly interpolate the clip into whatever frame rate they choose for their project. There's no downside at all.

A lot of the Pakistan/Bangladesh work in groups, they have a pool of stolen items - either outright stolen from other sites or bought using leftover credits from genuine accounts. They then re-sell these to others for a fee.
On top of that, there's a large trade in selling accounts to get around bans and so on. Its a huge business for them.

@Cobalt "the algos don't care at all how much money you make".
You can't know this,and I can't know either.[\quote]
Indeed we cant know that. BUT from SS point of view, if lower level customers make sales and its weighted towards them then they make more profit per same consumer price as there's less commission to pay out.

What's the point of uploading a video with 120 fps or 60 fps? There are very few such videos on stocks and few people buy them. FPS in the EU is 25, and FPS in America is 29.97. Why would a buyer need a video with 60 or 120 fps?
Because they might want to slow it down to an unknown level or at least give them the option. Very useful for stabilising handheld shots of things and so on with slowing. Default FPS these days really doesnt matter. Every NLE is perfectly capable of converting with no loss in quality of frames in the usual range.

Maybe 3 years from now this will be considered a "good day at ShutterGetty"?
Here's my Jan 8 results...
I "sold" 2 video clips today on SS for $0.25 each. I cant wait to see sub cent videos on GettyStock in the future.

I have been a contributor to both, but my portfolio on SSTK is somewhat larger, both because iStock is pickier, and I have not bothered to upload as much there, as it is more trouble.
That seems to go even more for others, as apparently the total number of files at SSTK is more than double what it is at iStock: https://photutorial.com/shutterstock-vs-istock/#shutterstock-has-2-times-more-content-but-i-stock-is-more-curated
iStock has taken a more restrictive view of what is acceptable, based on no known legal principles of IP. For example, I have found that they have zero tolerance for interior shots for editorial, even of public buildings where photography is permitted.
It will be interesting to see how they handle that, and whether they will cull the SSTK portfolio to eliminate images that iStock would not have accepted.
As a side on that, the first that changed when SS bought Pond5 was the enforcing of user-declared editorial and the SS format captions on new content. That came very early on. Its quite possible the first changes will be to standardise the legal aspects, IP and so on. And i guess it'll move to the strictest (ie Getty). I do a fair bit of editorial but a lot of what i do is fine for SS and elsewhere but not on iStock.

One thing Getty is hot on is IP/copyright violation. It'll be interesting to see how they handle the Shutterstock library which is absolutely full of violations.

Again, thank you for the suggestion I have never considered doing 120fps.
Butwould it not be possible to use ai to modify a 30fps clip?
Probably I do not understand it well enough.
If you can upscale with ai, couldnt ai also add more frames?
Maybe it makes too many mistakes?
Most NLEs will do frame rate conversion. That said, Topaz generally does it better.

Not received the email from SS but the other side: Dear Creator/Contributor,
As Getty Images approaches our 30th anniversary, we are excited to share the news that Getty Images and Shutterstock have announced an agreement to merge. The company will operate under Getty Images Holdings, Inc. The official press announcement can be found here.
Its important to note that it will take time for the transaction to close. The merger is subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions, including receipt of required regulatory approvals and the approval of Getty Images and Shutterstock stockholders. As a result, the merger is not closed, and each company will continue to operate independently in the interim, and it will be business as usual with respect to your relationship with Getty Images.
We are undertaking this merger in large part because we expect it to provide expanded reach for your content, support for new asset types and formats and enhanced support and tools to manage your work.
We believe in creativity. We believe in the power of imagery. We believe pre‑shot solutions represent an efficient and powerful tool for our customers. We believe in the opportunity of AI, but the need to compensate creators for the use of their work. These beliefs will not change with the transaction.
Over the coming months, as we move to close, we are committed to sharing updates.
We thank you for sharing your talent, content and trust with Getty Images and we look forward to providing expanded opportunities and capabilities going forward.
Best wishes,
Craig Peters CEO, Getty Images Regulatory approval may take some time here.

All agencies i know of specifically ban uploading the same shoot in different resolutions.

I didnt really upgrade for that reason, it was time to upgrade my (mainly still photography) kit and at this point everything does 4k anyway. All the drones, phones, mirrorless and action cams.
So effectively the "upgrade" was free.
I wouldnt say its worth upgrading to 4k specifically to make 4k videos though. That wouldnt be good value. The vast majority of sales are still HD (Blackbox mentions similar in its FAQs).

This is a smallish video port of around 2,000 clips.
Is your video port comprised of HD, 4K or a combination of both?
Probably 80% 4k, the rest HD with a handful 720p. That said, when stats where available and where they still are elsewher, 95% sales are HD resolution.

For me the peak "video boom" was bout 2018 or so then downhill from there.
All agencies sold well and for good prices at that point. Since then massive price cuts combined with market saturation drove it to penny stock again.
2018 SS my video portfolio was 10% the size of my images but earned about 30% more than images every month. That was of course before the percentage pricing, cheaper packages, subscriptions and level cuts.
P5 my income is down about 50% since that time period on average. AS however is stable.
This is a smallish video port of around 2,000 clips.

Im way down on Dec 2023 but that was because i had several highly unusual $900 sales. Take those off and on average yes its better.
(But still 50% or so what it was in 2022 to 2017).

The last few months new stuff appears to be selling far more than it was prior to that for a long time so i suspect something changed. Ive had a few images take off including one that now seems to be a daily seller (for no clear reason that i can see, its average at best). I havent seen that for a new image for several years.

That or half of Pakistan downloading them with someones subscription account, mirroring the image and then reuploading for sale themselves.

That makes the level reset even more grating....
I got to video level 4 2 hours before midnight on new years eve last time. No sales obviously then and reset back to 1.

They seem to be clearing the backlog and starting from newest first. Ive had regular batches of 20-40 reviewed every few days off the top of my queue.
MOST has now cleared - even the 5 month old ones. Ive got about 20 left from about a month ago still but the 500 or so others in the queue from then until now has cleared.

-So are we supposed to keep a file of our rejects so we don't forget what we already submitted? I always do so i can keep track of what ive sent where and whats accepted. It WAS useful for SS when they went through the random batch-reject nonsense not that long ago, you knew to just resubmit the next day. -SS is using AI to decide if the image was previously submitted. Wonder if we can fool it with a new pixel size, upscale, color rebalance and recrop?
Lets face it, the algorithm (hate the term AI - its an algorithm) has been capable of identifying identical and similar images BUT its never been applied. People can upload stolen content identical to another users already online and its accepted despite the original one being shown clearly in the "similar images" section of that same page. Most rejects except for IP get "accepted" for data licensing anyway so its online and stored and is then trivial to compare that to content coming in from that same user to check. That said, the bug a few weeks ago where some rejected content from several years ago appearing and getting rejected suggest to me they're not entirely honest about deleting ANYTHING as such.

Not sure running out of road as such - more like they're driving it off the road.
Good detail above. A few things tally with that, if you look at TrustPilot and other buyer chats they're all uniformly awful about their service. One thing that stands out of their free trial/subscription things are seen as scams and MOST now sign up for the 2 image pack and then want to leave to avoid getting tied in. In other words, far fewer see subscriptions as value for money. This also ties up with what i see as a contributor in that 90% by volume USED to be subs, now its SODs and subs are much lower. So i guess they're losing this lucrative, monthly renewing revenue stream rapidly. Lots of complaints of low quality, mislabelled and AI images in there too.
Not sure where they go from here - their reputation with buyers is trash, the reputation with contributors is trash. There seems to be no self-awareness here. Its not even considered. They've bought up most of the competitors they're likely able to. Where do they go from here? They cant cut further and dont seem to have a club or seemingly any ambition to improve the reputation and offerings other than "make it cheaper and free trials". Quality and service doesnt seem to factor in.

There are literally several cases on this forum of people waiting months for reinstatement (and in some cases, getting nowhere until Matt intervened).
