123RF / Re: RC Totals Not Updated?
« on: September 03, 2013, 18:59 »
Hrmm. it looks like they are screwing me on the subs prices too.

They have earned their spot on my fecal roster.

For the price the Pentax camera is pretty impressive, especially if you need a rugged camera. I have the K5 and have dropped it onto granite and been in downpours in it and my friend's was submerged and survived. Another friend has the K5IIs and raves about it. Lately he has been playing with the 645 though and raves even more about that...

Mine haven't budged. They will probably drop though.

Maybe they are testing out some sort of automatic pre-review... I had an out of focus sparkly background rejected for focus...

It should be obvious to anyone who has been submitting microstock for any time that reviews are not completely consistent.

I am guessing re: the guns they have tightened their criteria but they either don't want to or haven't removed the old content that wouldn't pass now. They did a similar thing with vehicles a while back if I remember correctly.

They certainly were doing better last year. I might have more sales this year, but the big ELs are few and far between and the .25 subs seem fairly common. Last month was pretty good there though for me.

The fact that they either can't be bothered or actually can't fix the ftp for uploading isn't a good sign though.

last 3 days have been good for me thanks to the OD and SOD depts, it still doesn't make up for the pretty dismal rest of the month, but at least I won't be close to 50% of last august like it was looking for a bit.

1307
So is it confirmed that they are going to keep paying .38 for subs from bridge people or is this message made with love just to show that they aren't going to change the completely unrealistic RC numbers or the royalty rates?

1308
from P5 you get 50% of the sale price. Through 123RF - who knows, maybe as low as 30% of 50%.

1309
I wrote them a nasty - ish letter about it. Actually my sales are way up and earnings there are up a little bit. RPI is pathetic, but more tellingly, SS is down by more than BS is up. I don't want them to be able move .38 subs to .27 subs and I really really really don't want them to move this plan to SS.

When they implemented I asked if I turned on the bridge to BS how long I would get .38 royalty and they said - sorry - I couldn't do that anymore - in a pretty nasty way. I initially declined to do the bridge when it was offered me in SS because I wanted to send some larger files to BS for potentially better large size sales... so much for that plan.

They should at least be similar in royalty to what we make at SS, but their current RC plan for subs royalty is pretty out of range for me and I suspect most other submitters.

cut my port down to under 50 mostly old mostly crappy images or ones that did better at IS than anywhere else. I just watch their antics with sadness but not distress now. In July my RPD was about 37.5 cents.

« on: August 23, 2013, 21:28 »
pretty poor week in a pretty poor month. One EL made one week ok, but still pretty poor.

1312
$1.40 on a $2 sale is nice, now I need a flood of $5 sales.

« on: August 11, 2013, 21:45 »
I had around 3 weeks with zero sales there last month. This month started ok, but then it turned off again the 7th, I hope that isn't it for the month. They aren't a great seller for me but before that they were reasonably steady with an occasional bigger sale.

Pretty poorly for me, I am down a little in total volume of sales, but it is the lesser number of alphabet soup sales - OD, EL, SOD sales that is really dropping the $ total down.

General Stock Discussion / Re: The Future Big 5
« on: July 29, 2013, 09:25 »
I can kind of understand. I could name my top 5 agencies, but they will never be everyone else's top 5 or the overall top 5.
Yes, but you have images with the agencies in your top 5 right? I am not going to add agencies to my list that I am not submitting to, when asked what is my most profitable top 5 agencies.

I quit Fotolia and iStock a couple years ago, but I still think they are some of the top agencies for contributors.

for sales, headaches, shady deals, and cuts.

Tom - who are you quoting (maybe I'm going blind)?

If that is questioning the "doubling of sales" I don't remember who it was from 123RF said it when they introduced the RC system when they were trying to make it seem like a good thing for us to get paid less.

Off Topic / Re: Will the Cell Phone Replace the dSLR?
« on: July 27, 2013, 01:11 »
Right now shutter lag is one of my biggest complaints with tracking devices cameras, but that could be avoided with continuous sensing and then just recording when told too.  If they put something like the lytro sensor on there though...  Still, I think it will be a while before the little cameras can do what the big ones can do now, and by then I imagine that the big ones will still be way ahead. I wouldn't be surprised if the mirror reflex part goes away though as someone mentioned above.

I have often seen the images on the back of phones or p&s cameras and thought they really nailed it only to look at the full image on a computer and be overwhelmed with the noise etc. Part of this is my microstock pixel peeping obsession, but part is just poor image quality.

Pond5 / Re: Pond5: What should we improve?
« on: July 27, 2013, 00:07 »
Thanks for coming in here and letting us help you improve the site. I had some trouble with model releases a while back but it all seems to be working now. I think the search results could be improved, and of course more sales would be nice.  Mostly I want to just say keep up the good work.

it seems that some people are having success there, but I am not. In fact I am on track to be about where I was in 2008 with only 1/3 or less of my current port.

Certainly no where near the promised doubling of sales.

1321
No, I mean that the entire collection will still be posted at peopleimages (which undercuts IS).  That contradicts the IS press release that IS is, and I quote:
"... now the only site where the Arcurs Collection of photo, video, audio and vector elements can be found."

Sean. You are not exclusive with IS any more. And please read the post I sent out about you actually being a good person later in this thread. :)
Istock has partner programs. Thinkstock, Photos.com, Flickr etc. So now www.peopleimages.com is one of those. What is the problem? Why do you have such a hard time with that?

So does that mean that IS will send my remaining images there and in a few months (or more) the sales will be reported over the course of a few months?

What concessions did you get from Getty/IS to go exclusive there?

1322
I thought SS stock had fallen because Attila had rejected most of my last batch of new images. Way to burst my bubble.

It sounds like this Getty/Istock he speaks of is a totally different entity from the one that has been shafting the rest of us for so long.

I'm missing the 16th and 18th of May, along with the 8th, 9th, 21st and 30th in June.

There must still be some glitch if we are all missing the same days.

It was posted about an hour ago that there was an issue identified with the days June 8, 9, 21, 30.  They're going to go over all the logs of June payments.

Maybe they should just go over all the other days too while they are at it...

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Help me choose between two lenses
« on: July 25, 2013, 23:36 »
I had the Tamron 17-50 2.8 and thought the image quality was excellent. Focus was a bit slower and noisier than lenses costing twice as much, but I didn't get it for sports. The build quality was so/so, but once again that is comparing it to something costing a lot more- on the flip side with all that plastic it was pretty light. It did get fungus inside when I was in SE Asia for 2 months though.

Adobe Stock / Re: Do we need a deactivation day on fotolia?
« on: July 24, 2013, 20:20 »
I think that we are all small enough potatoes that deleting our ports won't make much difference to the agencies - at least at first. BUT, it can do a lot for your own self esteem etc. That is the reason to stop uploading or delete things, when you are no longer happy living with the situation the way it is.

In the long run maybe the sites that cause many people to do this will lose business.
