Yes, but we can do that with normal arguments, I think. We dont have to upset people in the process. And imo I dont think the OP meant to spread lies, he just seem confused.
Well I'm really, really sorry but obviously I was highly upset by the inaccurate mis-information being spread by Traveler. I wouldn't say he was 'confused' either. I would say he didn't know the facts and was attempting, rather feebly, to support his own IS Exclusive agenda.
Funny things is ... I'll bet within a year or so he'll have given up his crown and will be asking us all about the benefits of SS. At least then he'll find out what SS really pays for himself.
I agree with your arguments on the Shutterstock royalties Gostwyk but the nature in which they were served was unnecessarily rude. The forum would become rather nasty rather quickly if we were all to post in a similar manner. Please cool it down a bit.

*On which site did you experience the least increase (or largest degrese) in gross earnings?
what if several sites vie for this honor?? ie earning approach 0
none of my sites were degreased, however - those sites remain as slimy as ever
==== also the form for entering the draw is mostly blank space
Well if there are a couple sites tied for worst place then you'll have to just pick one. In regards to the draw, which browser were you using?

I started it, then there was a question about do you intend to go exclusive with iStock in the coming year, which was unanswerable if you are already exclusive.
Also I thought I should wait in Pollyanna mode to see if I have any GI sales coming through: I count them in my iStock total, as I don't submit to Getty directly.
Also there is a question about Alamy, but I'm not sure if you want us to count Alamy sales in our micro total.
Sorry, I've fixed that question now. It shouldn't have shown up if you were exclusive. Yeah, i guess Alamy creates a bit of confusion as it is a bit of a crossover site. I include my alamy earnings because I have all my micro images on Alamy. I consider everything I make from my 'microstock images', microstock income.

I found this on Shutterstock's website and I think it clears things up. I'm assuming the reason I'm not taxed with IStock is because they're based in Calgary. Here's the link for anyone interested:

thanks for the link

The yearly microstock survey is now live and can be found here. http://microstocksurvey.com/index.php?sid=86518I've added a couple additional questions to the survey, thanks to feedback from previous years, but still tried to keep it as short as possible so it doesn't take too long. If you have your stats ready it should still take less than 5 minutes to complete. Last year we had well over 700 microstockers respond which is a great number. Hopefully we can match (and break) that record this year. Please share the link so we get as many and as varied respondents as possible. Everyone's numbers are useful for the results, from the person with 5 images/illustrations to the full time pro. Like the previous years, as a thanks for filling out the survey I'll be running a little give away, this year for a 52" wescott reflector, one of my favorite photography tools. If you are an illustrator or already have a reflector and don't want a second one, you can get a gift certificate from BHPhoto instead. The winner of the reflector will be randomly drawn at the end of January.

No you didnt. A loaf of bread costs 5 dollars here. A small house out in the contry costs 200.000 dollars. And why is that? Because general expenses are high, taxes are high, and government spends are high. Free education (universities), free healthcare, it all costs. But pays back. When all is said and done it boils down to security and trust. And here we have that.
Interesting. The inflation sounds bad, but OTOH, as you mention, you get free university, free health care, pension, etc. For the 7.25/hour pizza worker here, they don't get any of those benefits. I would rather live in your society, JPDSK, but unfortunately majority of voters here disagree...
The UK wage sounds more comparable to the US one, except, again, you get health care covered out of that.
Tom, good point about the regional differences in wages. Although AFAIK $5/hour would be illegal anywhere in the US (except in a tipped profession), as the national minimum wage is now $7.25. But I get your point.
It's not inflation.. it's just the cost of goods. Many goods are more expensive because the people working to produce those goods get paid more and because there are high taxes on the goods in the store (25% in Norway) Norway is quite similar to Denmark in the minimum wage and cost of goods. In Norway I'd guess a grocery store clerk or other non-educated job would get paid around $20/hr. What people fail to assume, however is that everything is 3x. Things cots 3x more and wages are all 3x more. That simply isn't true. Things costs 2-3x more many times, but not always. Electronics, and cameras are often the same price as USA. And here is a big difference - professionals don't earn any more in Norway than they do in Canada. A teacher or Nurse in Canada earns as much (or more) than a teacher or nurse in Norway. So the spread in wages is WAY more in Canada (and USA) than it is in Norway. A 'professional' will earn 1.5x more than a 'minimum wage' job in Norway, whereas in Canada the difference between a Walmart worker and teacher can be 4x+ so.. a professional in Norway has actually less purchasing power than a professional in Canada, but a 'minimum wage earner' has a LOT more purchasing power in Norway than Canada.

CD123 sent me an email and asked if I could post it in this thread. Here it is To those who care (thank you)
2013 is going to be a very big challenge for me. I am medically disabled after a huge heart attack a few years back. MSG was always a great place for me to communicate with fellow micro stockers and I learnt a lot from some of the friendly and sharing members and sometimes just have a nice or wacky chat.
I have struggling against some depression lately, as my future seems quite bleak and I can not even begin to name all the setbacks I (my family) had the past 3 years (I am normally not the depressed type). I tried to work it away and try to stay upbeat. My self confidence did take an obvious knock after the heart attack, because sometimes just getting through the day can be a challenge. MSG helped my finding a place again.
I do not easily let people get me down and is quite capable to square off against an little one-on-one scuffle. What lately started to irritate me was this little packs which will pound on anyone they think is out of line. It also just get disheartening if you make a point in a thread and there is no reply or referral to your point, then directly after that one of the pack would repeat the exact point (sometimes not even a much different words) and get widely applauded for the insight. This is one of the reasons this whole + and thing got totally up my nerves. I chose the wrong post to utter my dismay at the situation, as you pointed out, it was not the case in the specific thread.
Am I over sensitive Yes, most definitely (but not much I can do about it at present). Just had to decide if I needed extra negatives or upsetting situations in my life at present and decided that this one is under my control and I can cut it out before the new year start.
I actually wanted to refrain from looking at the site again, but I prepared myself for the worst (like good to see his back, hope we do not see him again soon, what a troll, etc.) and curiosity killed the cat. I did read the inquiries about my closure of my membership. I know it is only a handful out of thousands members who had a friendly word, but you guys gave me a lot of hope and encouragement. Thank you for that.
I still need the break now, I think, but if Tyler will allow me back (hopefully) in the close future, I would love to come back.
Hope all of you who endured the old screwy South African, have a great year!!!
Regards
Of course you are welcome back any time. I'm sorry to see you leave but certainly understand you wanting to take a break. Posting on forums requires at least a certain amount of 'skin' and when a person feels 'without skin'.. things can feel very personal and hurtful, even when they are not meant so. I wish you the best of health and mind in your situation and hope you feel better soon. Depression is like any sickness, it overtakes the body and isn't just a matter of 'deciding' to feel better. If you feel MSG is making you more sick, a break is probably a smart move. On the flip side, hopefully in the future this place can be a place of encouragement and comradery for you, building you up more than tearing you down.

... Also, The negative votes you were referring to in that one thread were not voted by one troll voter but rather the two people who posted and simply disagreed with eacother.
One vote per person right? How would a troll vote more? Oh maybe you shouldn't answer, it might give people ideas.
But we only get one vote right?
Yes, one vote

theprint is his iStock user name, in case you can't match real world name with member name. He is apparently not in any hurry to get his portfolio up on other sites.
MichaelJay, formerly of the former Berlin office, has also dropped his crown. To be precise, both of them have started their 30 day clock although the crown isn't yet gonzo.
Thanks for linking that up

The minuses don't contribute to your overall total.
I agree pixart. It would be better to se how many of each vote there is. I'll try and code that in the new year. It isn't an option by default.

... the video started off with a history of money, why it was created, how banks used to have gold stored in the bank and then ultimately how banks can just write loans without even having the money.

I thought someone once posted it here, or perhaps I saw it elsewhere. It was an interesting and educational little video that showed how banks works, how money is 'created' and where money comes from.
Does anyone know which video I am talking about. It was a narration and quite a bit of cartoon animation.

There is something worse than "africans". That is rich amateurs who can afford to experiment and learn. Hobbyists, do not work for a dollar or a bowl of rice. They pay to play the microstock gamble.
Good point. The hobbiest is willing to work for free or at times would be willing PAY to be in Microstock.
