General Stock Discussion / How are microstock images used?
« on: June 18, 2008, 12:25 »
Only FT shows what type of organization is downloading particular photo. Are there any restrictions for buyers on usage of RF photos?

My acceptance rate on StockXpert is actually higher than on SS and I am uploading exactly same pictures. I was accepted on second attempt.

I was watching pending counter was going down every time I pressed refresh button :-) Every 10 pictures approved counter went up by 1 :-)

I stop uploading to CS. After they rejected 500 pictures in 1hr. It looks like they randomly picked 10% of the pictures. Plus there was no single download there for 3 month and just couple views on photos. They must not be interested in nature shots.

Switched to GF5 and now I got "Interpolation artifacts" rejections instead of "Soft or lacking definition"

Do I need to run noise reduction software at certain point of the process?

I upload exactly same images to many sites. Some allow me to upload a lot some like IS or BS are limiting upload.

My acceptance rates are:
FP 96%
YAY 95%
123RF 60%
DT 39%
BS 37%
StockXpert 30%
SS 25%
IS 21%
CS 13%
FT 12%

I think 123RF is one of the easiest to upload.

I tried DPP and now I got "Interpolation artifacts" instead of "Soft or lacking definition".  I think I will try GF5 cause I am not upgrading my camera any time soon.

Even so crappy website like Fotolia cannot be done in 2 weeks as some of the bidders would suggest. Month or two maybe but it would not be perfect and bug free.  So requirements are impossible to fulfill. Nobody, even in India would do it for this kind of money.

On the other hand I think Fotolia ceased any development of their website. They sit of couple millions of images so they do not care about contributors anymore. They might still working on search engine, cause it's their source of revenue. Only buyers matter for them right now.

I am using EOS 20D and mostly Canon EF 17-40mm F/4L  lens but I am not using DPP. I import directly to Adobe Lightroom.

Exactly, I have these images rejected by upload applet because they were too small.

Then I tried to export as 16-bit TIFF, load in PSE upsize to 5050 with bicubic smoother, convert to 8-bit and save as JPG. Still rejected as too soft.

It going to be quiet like hell here  ::)

I think I am at the bottom of this range, 0.25. I do include some other thing when I find it in my archive. My best sellers are still very cliche-like landscapes like Valley View form Yosemite :-)

I last two months since I started I got only sales on SS. So I am assuming nature/landscapes sales only there. On other sites despite of many obstacles I managed to get at least 200 pictures in my portfolios but interest is marginal. I am not going to change what I am shooting and switch to photos of happy businessmen or isolated objects all of the sudden. I will keep uploading until I got all my archive previewed and uploaded. I know that I need more patience in this business.

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT keyword issue
« on: June 08, 2008, 12:26 »
Wow, some people want even copyright their keyword sets to eliminate competition?

Recently I have routine that I check pictures from the same location on SS. First, let's say I am uploading pictures from "Crater Lake". English is my second language so I am not always that creating in terms of vocabulary. I compare my keyword set with what somebody else got. Obviously I am always finding out that there is other place on Earth called "Crater Lake" so I am not getting tags like Africa or South America :-) Second source of my inspiration is Wikipedia. I scan first paragraph for words I missed.

I also earned expedited rejection on my next batch. Evaluated in less than 1 hour :-) I should keep my mouth shut :-)

Does it mean that I have to export it from LR to PSE?

I check sometimes when I like the picture they rejected. Otherwise I keep uploading cause their processing is easy but because they do not produce any result I keep pushing them down in my upload script :-)

"As we have recieved a large amount of similar pictures, we have chosen to raise the standards. Keep uploading and keep up the good work. Kind regards Crestock"

Fotolia was dead for me for 3 years after tried first time. Now I tried again and I do not like it any better. I am focusing my efforts on SS and new guys that popped in last 3 years when I was not paying attention to microstock.

The beauty of my situation is that I DO NOT HAVE to do anything.  I CAN do something if want and nothing happens if I don't. Photography for me is all as good as it gets :-)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Are you professional?
« on: June 05, 2008, 15:12 »
I am not paid to shoot. I am trying to sell photos like other goods on eBay or similar website.  My occupation is totally different than art. So far I got maybe 1% of income from photography (far less than I am spending on it). I am truly not professional. If somebody pays me to babysit once a year would be this make me professional caregiver cause I was paid?

Does photography pay for your tuition? If yes, then you are full time photographer :-) Like in case of a doctor, his daytime job pays bills and hobby,
