Ja, I say the same. I uploaded 4 images this month (or was it last?) and 3 were accepted. So Attila 1 vs Jens 3. We can only hope he goes on vacation soon so we can have the borderline images of poisonous plants and communists accepted.

Fine new images Mike.
I like doctor Ledray, and also that Jeff is so hungry that he eats the mail.

Basically they changed the concept from quality to quantity.
They threw away years of hard labour from both contributors and reviewers.
The only reason to ever to do such a drastic move would be that the concept was near death, or worse.

They threw away years of hard labour... because it was not sustainable anymore ( and havent we heard that a few times)
What they misunderstood, was, that it was not the images that were not sustainable, but their greedy culture, that I would compare to a pyramid scheme.
Meaning, they thrived on an ongoing expansion in the customers base, that once the financial crisis set in, was unsustainable. Yes that it was, but they told us, it was us, who were unsustainable, when it actually were them.

154
The obsticle would be pain.
Life is full of pain and artists are full of pain. And have to talk about it. Remember "skriget" by Edvard Munch.

So get some pain on your shoulders. And since you are in Japan, you can go to Fukushima or you can photograph some ships far inland.

( I have gone to all kinds of fancy schools, art included, but I have learnt most out in nature, by looking and observing or out in the workshop by turning the lathe)

155
it is part of shutters brand to not have exclusives.
among several reasons, one is overlooked: quality.

By not having exclusivety, shutterstock get the best content, because they can attract a group of photographers with high earning images, who can already sell them well at other outlets, but also want to sweep up the crums from microstock.

Exclusivety is a double edged sword, it only works when the return is high enough to keep the best photographers in the stable.
and exclusivety is dangerous, as it may develop into a kindergarden when the return is falling and the imprisoned artists are not encouraged to evolve.

156
Interesting debate you have just started.
Why are we here? and what is important? and why is the artistic challenge so important to us?
It sounds like you are a little bewildered, and also that you have an urge to do something splendid.
It also sounds like you are asking for advice.
The last i can understand, it is called ambition and thats a good thing. ( in relevant doses).
Now adressing some of the questions you are raising: How to find art? and what do you have to learn to become an artist that has an impact.
You are talking about going to a photography school. So you can learn what? Photography? You can learn that on youtube.
Art? Im not sure you can learn art in a photography school.
It is characteristic that all great artists learned by themselves, because they couldnt help it, they were engaged and took great pain and effort to produce things they had to produce, so they need to learn from all kinds of sources to get knowledge so they could produce what they wanted.
I bet you, that da Vinci had both studied carpentery, so he could propose a framework for his amoured tank, and also masonery and mineralogy, so he could make a statue. not to mention pigments and varnishes.

Same with stock photography, you need to learn to cook to make food images, and you need to have studied biology to make butterfly metamorphosis pictures.
Plus more.
You need to know about the basics of art, and that is colours and media, in the meaning pigment, blending and prints.
I think you may benifit a lot from your ambition, since that can be the motivation to go and learn all kinds of different things that you need in your photography.
So Id say... forget schools, instead study things by yourself, and best by working with them. Get a job in the printing industry, or as a school photographer, learn about colours by working in the cobalt mines or as an auto varnisher. Or just paint you motorbike yourself.
Then there are two other aspect of art, that you dont come by so easily.
One is having something to say, or show, or display. A message so to speak. If you want to be recognized as an artist, the message should be relevant in time and culture. That is why a graphic photo of dandelion seeds does not have the same impact as the greeneyed Kurdish girl from National Geographic.
There are actually rules that can raise the impact of visionary art. Those are good to learn, start with Goethe and Newton, then proceed to game theory.
You as a person is also important, remember yoko ono, a famous artist, but what was she famous for?

And my story? Not interesting, Im not an artist, but I am a good mechanic and a polyhistor. I use microstock as a playground and learning place.

General Stock Discussion / Re: June 2014 earning results

Appr. 2000 images, microstock since 2007.

Business as usual, good month:
Shutter strong, especially on sods that now outperform subscription downloads. I like the high numbers, I feel apreaciated when I get 80 dollars for a sale.
Fot average.
DT average

Others? I havent looked, but I got a payout from 123 and big, and its just old files I have resting in peace there.
So all in all June was good. Despite I havent uploaded much for several months now. Maybe BME or one of the top 5.

158
I agree on that.
especially "PPM"

"posts per minute"

there is a time/ quality relation.

Now do it in five footed iambs.

One of the stanzas should contain:

...Why look'st thou so?'—With my cross-bow
I shot the ALBATROSS...

thats called crowdsourcing, and the crowd is big and the source is limited.

161
Can we see some of the images plus 100% crop.
Else this is just another whining over the reviewers thread.

And please note, that Shutterstock has been here and ever so politely and impersonal has explained procedures and things, and still you continue to whine.

Rejections are all about supply and demand, and you folks might be going out of demand, as we all are.

162
No it wont, it will just deteriorate the forums further.

Off Topic / Re: Why are we losing so many members?
« on: June 12, 2014, 23:03 »
I think we should introduce a new voting systyem with a "skull and bone" icon, that could be used when you really dislike people.

What I mean to say is that the voting system brings the worst out in people and deteriorates the forums much, because it forces everything in a personal direction.

Fixing it would be easy, just remove the down voting option.

its nice to open a thread here and see it as a 100% positive thread.

We can change that!
Nothing wrong with Jo Ann.

but the surname, what is that for a name: "Snover" where does that come from? some Scottish marsh pit or what.

166
Oh yes.
I do filters. I have actions for photoshop based on topaz and a lot more that add pep and pop to the images.

167
Funny thing, how the bugs always work for istock.
This one could work for the OP, as she could be getting exclusive royalties until they fix it.

Yes definately.. Cool! Ha ha.
Then I would stick to the screenshot and keep it.

168
Funny thing, how the bugs always work for istock.

The important part, the legal part, is that you can prove you have sent them notice.

Do you have a screenshot of anything that proves the date? Then save it.
Send them a letter, the type that is signed when it is recieved. "I hereby (date) terminate my exclusivity with istock)"

If so, you are free to go and feel free in a free way.

169
of course you need a camera, or something that can get pixels into the frame.
The better camera the easier. But it is not about the camera, it is about the vision the artist has.
You can in fact just scan a picture of your last train ticket or what your girlfriend wrote this morning.
it is not about equipment but about knowing the market and in some way be able to come up with a digital file that the crowd will love..

Cameras are easy though, they provide you with many million pixels and if you point in  the right direction, you will get an advantage over those who paint everything with paintbrushes.

170
None of the above.
What you need is imagination, research abilities and a nice looking girlfriend.

You can even do it with a dog, if you dont have a girlfriend, or a butterfly.

Adobe Stock / Extended licences on "Dollar club"
« on: May 21, 2014, 11:36 »
Fotolia just sent me this:

Dear Contributor,

Did you know that Extended Licenses are now available on Dollar Photo Club?

This means that Contributors who opted in to Dollar Photo Club can now sell Extended Licenses to customers from untapped markets, all with a fixed commission of 30 Credits paid on your Fotolia account.

This new license was a popular request from our customers, so we expect a lot of Extended License sales on Dollar Photo Club.

If you wish to opt your images back in you can do that anytime by following this link.

Yours sincerely,

The Fotolia Team

So now  I dont get it. Fotolia is trying to compete with the subscription agencies with a dollar offer, of which I have opted out to not compete with myself at other places. But why do they add ELS to the mix? That will be expensive for the buyer.
What is going on?

172
Istock are masters in shooting themselves in the foot.

I didnt sell any cockroach images.

174
I opted out following the advice from the clever people here.
Despite I have had no problems with fotolia before, I do need to protect my sales elsewhere.

That make me think, that now, we contributers and our reaction is a competitive parameter.
That is good, we should be!
