I installed google analytics yesterday to see if I was getting any traffic on my site and sure enough 13 different users but no purchasers so I figured it would be a good idea to add some exclusive content to my SymbioStock site. BTW, 13 different users is more than I received in any day of having my own non-linked site for 2 years!
I like the idea of SymbioStock exclusive images. I just uploaded and marked the new images exclusive to my site. This seems to be a good way to wean clients off of the traditional MS agencies and safely build up our own traffic.

So how do I go about installing ImageMagick on my server. I've installed the wp ImageMagick engine plug in but the image processor is still using GD Library. I assume there may be something I need to install via my cPanel.

I tried downloading it a few minutes ago. The download link does not appear to be working.

if SS goes for exclusive photographers only - not photos... only IS would survive -
...and then we have new problems - of course - but - something has to change drastically - situation in MS becomes unsustainable...
Ah, perchance to dream.... With SS's current client and photographer lists they should offer 50% commissions on exclusive content and raise the sub price to $1/image. I doubt many photogs would not jump at this because it would take out all the competition where we are competing with ourselves and both us and SS would earn more money. Someday maybe Jon will change his mind.... Ok time to wake up....

Forgot to say. I've only been with them for a couple of months and have under 200 images with them. I will not be uploading any more and at the 6 month point will go through and delete any unsold images.

I too only wish SS would offer special terms for exclusives, because if they did they would hold all of the content, can you say monopoly? They'd have what Getty use to have in RM. With everything going wrong at IS and now FT why would any photographer not jump at it. After a few months they could even raise the rates a bit because they'd be the only ones with content as all other agencies would loose anyone that is on SS. But alas, they apparently don't want to even if they can be the driver!

I was leaving open the possibility of going exclusive with iStock if (big IF) they changed their relationship with contributors. If this new rate is real I already have my answer. Since seeing it I have stopped contributing to them and am just waiting to see if it is real or a mistake. If a mistake why can't they just correct it. 2 minutes tops. Go figure. My honest belief is they are testing the waters and looking to see how many new exclusives they get with these wonderful new rates.

I think it is exactly what is needed. I voted for centralized payment and same EULA so it all looks like one big site to the customer rather than a bunch of scattered artists. If people can all live with the same EULA from all the microsites they've signed up with, why not here. If photographers signed up in droves and dropped their competing sites we could all make a decent living again and get rid of the $.21 downloads.

Yea I know that but up until now mine displayed a 1 for another plugin even though I had upgraded it so I did not bother with it. Finally that offending plugin is reading correct so all is good.

Thanks, that was a bit easier! For some reason I never thought to click the Dashboard button.

So where is the SymbioStock update button? When I updated to 2.4.7 I downloaded it, deleted 2.4.5 from the site, uploaded 2.4.7, activated it, and finally activated the child theme. Is this the way to do it or is there a semi-automatic update button somewhere?

Quick question. How do I replace the ladybug Icon on the Author page with my own Icon?

Thanks Leo... GREAT job on it. It would be amazing to put the control into the hands of the content creators. Let's hope it takes off!

Now worries Tinny...

I used that watermark because that's basically what some of the MS sites use like SS. Maybe my X lines are a bit heavy....

Thanks Tinny. The cows are a bit different though, one more real and the other higher contrast. Funny they have both sold so don't know if I should pull one or the other or let them stay.
I see I need to also work on the author page, the ladybug placeholder needs to be replaced...
I'll add to the match in few. Thanks!

BME Have been on SS just the last five days of April with a total of 10 images. Had my first two sales within a couple of hours of going online. Ended up with 12 25-A-Day sales for a total of $3 !!! Not bad for 10 images and 5 days.

Is it better to be in or out of their "Alliances and Partnerships" program. I just don't want them to be distributing to other Micro sites where I would not only be getting a smaller percentage (split 3 ways) but competing with myself from the other site where I directly upload to.

I was originally with The Image Bank from 1980 until a few years ago. I had not submitted anything to them since around 1995. Slowly but surely the culled images out till I only had 50 left. I still made thousands every year from those 50 images. They dropped me when I did not sign the last contract I was offered, which I believe is the current contract.
In Sept 2010 I signed up with SuperStock for RM images. I currently have 2300 images (image exclusive) there.
Between February and now I have signed up with Alamy, Inmagine and AgeFotostock for RM images. I have less than 300 on Alamy, 200 on Inmagine and 150 on AgeFotostock. Most images have been up for only a month.

Thank you all for the continuing great information. I did not realize my simple (or not) question would take on a life of its own!
ShadySue, thank you for the very nice compliment. steheap, great information on your site, a huge help to all. cobalt, very informative and accurate assessment how things work and what needs to be done to be successful in micro stock.
It all makes for some interesting decision making. Different opinions all around including in some private messages.
A few have suggested going exclusive with iStock/Getty. Other than their current business practices with photographers there is a disturbing trend on their Alexa ratings. They both (iStock and Getty) are heading south at a pretty fast clip. Its no wonder they cut percentages because they would need to make up for the lost revenue!
Others have suggested the distribution system which would involve quite a bit more work than going exclusive. The advantage would be not every egg in the same basket.
Another option suggested is the Stocksy. First I would need to be accepted there. Assuming I did get in and have the option Stocksy has the issue of being brand new with no customer base and a limited amount of images for clients to choose from. The previous disadvantage is also an advantage as starting out on the ground floor with much less competition within the agency and plenty of room for submissions that fill a need. Two huge advantages is it is being run by the very successful Bruce Livingstone so maybe he is ready to turn the stock industry on its head for the second time and they pay 50% plus percentages of profits! It is run like a co-op so it should be MUCH more approachable than any other agency. I know if I am accepted I'd be all over it. On that note this morning I realized one of the ten images that I sent them was the wrong image. It had some blurring (300mm 1/125s tripod mounted) in it. I meant to send them the duplicate image right before it, but at 2 am I picked the wrong one. Hopefully they will not hold it against me.
The final place is Offset. It would have a huge user base but most likely subject to equivalent Shutterstock percentages. I do have a problem being paid 20% for my images, but after awhile it would move up to 30%.
