Good comment by TL. Guys, if you're looking for somebody promising good income, by all means stay with the agencies! They won't deliver, but at least you have someone to blame. Nobody can/will give you any guarantees that your Symbiostock website will be successful. But at least the success of your site is in your own hands. And the earnings are as well. I'm a little tired of people asking how much they can make. Or like "Show me the money first before I bless you with my great work". Seriously? You want others to test the waters until you feel the system might be good enough for you? Hard to believe.
Go for it or don't! But don't ask others to take all risks for you. Symbiostock is NOT another agency. It is taking responsibility for your own stock image success.

Just set a "Read more" tag after a short intro text to direct the viewers to the full content page. This way you will only have teasers on the blog roll page. When somebody wants to read the full article then he can click the headline of the post to get to it.

The nice thing about Symbiostock is that a potential image buyer doesn't even need a centralized search engine. He could start his search on any of the members websites and still find the one he is looking for through the networking features.

Oh and BTW, I'm not a fan of working for free in general. But I think we all will benefit from more high quality SYS members in the long run.
Of course on a voluntary basis. No one has to feel to be forced into something.

Leo, you're going too deep IMO. I'm not questioning nor discussing Symbiostock itself. I'm just suggesting that most people who have gone through setting up a SYS site are capable of mentoring someone who struggles to do so. Just a little more "personal" help than a forum can give - that's what's on my mind. The forum is already full of "this doesn't work and I can't do that" threads while most of the time the solution is simple but not easy to find for someone who has never worked with WP/SYS (just like me about 8 weeks ago). I'm very grateful for a fantastic tool , FREE OF CHARGE, to promote and to sell my work directly.
I'll be happy to promote the whole idea by helping somebody else to join the party.

Just thinking out loud ... How about some kind of mentoring? I mean we have people here that know the Wordpress and Symbiostock theme pretty well - and we have NEW Symbiostockers that would appreciate any help they can get because they might be overwhelmed. Sometimes a single mentor (possibly even with access to the Wordpress site in question) can explain and adjust things much quicker than posting/reading a lot of different opinions in the forum.
Wouldn't it be helpful if newbies could sign up at "looking for a mentor" while at the same time experienced users would like to be "available for help"?
We all have taken other people's work for granted ... why not give something back?
My suggestion would be that "mentors" simply drop a note here to be available while "newbies" can publish a need for mentoring.

Where did you make the changes and adjustments that got lost?

Anita, the Symbiostock Network doesn't and can't make any changes to your site. It's just scanning the data you're making available. Whatever happened, it happened on your site.
It looks to me like maybe you're not running a child theme correctly.

My guess would be that the widget pulls the minipic version and then upsizes it to fill the square frame. That upsizing will obviously make it blurry.
Yes, it does seem that your website is upsizing the images for some reason.
If you take a look at the source for the webpage, you will see the following for one of your images:
<img src="http://i1.wp.com/picturebreeze.com/wp-content/uploads/symbiostock_rf_content/3853-minipic.jpg?resize=150%2C150" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="3853-minipic" />
I'm not sure where that is coming from.
That doesn't happen on my website.
Thousand thanks. You've pointed out the problem. It was the "Photon" Jetpack plugin which was supposed to accelerate the distribution of images through the wordpress.com network. I've disabled it and now the "real" minipic thumbs show up. Thanks again, great help!

I do use additional plugins but none that might interfere with the "Symbiostock - Similar Images" widget, IMO. But I might be wrong. It is strange.
BTW, all of my thumbs show as squares. My guess would be that the widget pulls the minipic version and then upsizes it to fill the square frame. That upsizing will obviously make it blurry.

I assume that you are using something different than the standard "Featured Images" widget.
The images on all three of my widgets (Featured, Latest, and Similar) are all the same size.
Actually no. Or not that I know of.
163
« on: August 09, 2013, 12:20 »
The thumbnails on your homepage (under Featured Images) are smaller than the thumbnails on the image page (under Similar Images). It is possible that the reduction in size has sharpened them slightly.
I know that the thumbs of 'Featured' and 'Latest' are smaller. I think the minipic.jpg is pulled and displayed. The question is how do I get the 'Similar Images' widget to display the minipic and not to resize something else badly?
164
« on: August 09, 2013, 12:01 »
I believe, but I'm not sure, that the "Similar Images" on the image page have been clear and sharp before but now they're very blurry. This applies only to the "Symbiostock Similar Images Widget", not to the "Featured Images" or "Latest Images" widgets. If you'd like to compare, please take a look at the thumbnails on my homepage and then compare it to the thumbs on the image page. The image page thumbs are blurry, aren't they?

It's actually all explained in the Yoast SEO section. Once you've set a focus keyword, all you have to do is mention it a couple of times in your title, page heading, meta description, URL and in your over 300 words page description. Piece of cake.

I think our energies can be better spent shooting, editing and uploading to stock photography sites that are well established and YES they sting us over the commission they take but they ALSO promote our images for us in much better ways that we can.
Staying/being with most microstock agencies is modern days slavery. They feed you just as many peanuts to stay alive and to keep you working for them. And no, they don't promote YOUR images. They promote what they think sells. That might be very different from your perspective.

Not sure how to go about doing that (gotta do something while I wait to actually really get started).
I couldn't find a widget that controls that so a point in the right direction would be most helpful.
Thanks.

I think Nikd90 is right. You're probably linking to a Post Category instead of an image category. Your "description" is probably the slug that got generated when you created that post category. Solution: delete the unnecessary post categories, create image categories instead in link to them in your custom menu.

Thanks Ron! This have been stop me for using bulk action. But now I want to enable comment for all images, I need to use the bulk action, if confirm it won't affect the SEO I will just ignore the red status, it is too much work if need to click update for all image.
It must be analyses only. But it does explain a lot. I had the same thing happening to a bunch of images. And could never figure out why only those. But now I know, that were the only images I batch edited. Problem is, you need to go back to every image and click update for it to turn yellow or green again. But I figured its only an analyses, because the SEO is all still there.
That Yoast status measures your page content in relation to the focus keyword(s) you set. That's just to show YOU how good your SEO is when someone searches for the keyword(s) you have defined. Change that keyword and Yoast will give you a different status. And I guess that's what's happening when you bulk edit. But there's no reason to worry because your page content will still be the same (good or bad).
Are you sure that's all what defining a focus keyword does? I always thought that focus keyword would be included in some meta data on the image page. Can someone more familiar with the internals of Yoast SEO confirm one or the other version?
Yes, I'm sure. The only function the focus keyword has, is to show you how good or bad your page will perform in relation to that keyword. It's only a measurement tool and the focus keyword will not do anything good or bad to your actual page. It can't because it doesn't even get published.

i definitely prefer the large preview because that's the one with the watermark on it.

@cascoly
When was the last time you booked an airline ticket, rental car or hotel room? You have to submit more personal data than when applying for a job as a school bus driver.
With you/us being the owner of the merchandise/service on a Symbiostock site the customer only has to submit an email address. That's it. Period. There is no easier ordering/purchasing process that will at the same time guarantee that the customer can access his merchandise at any time.
And BTW, how do you check if a customer has purchased an image when he isn't registered and then claims to have lost it?
