I use firefox and don't remember ever having a problem.
+1 No problem here.
what? how are you guys getting it to work. It loads and loads forever for me then 95% of the time gives a timed out error
Which version are you on? Latest is 16. Try to go to Tools then Add-ons. Select plugins and select the Check to see if they are updated blue highlighted text. Also make sure your Java and Flash are up to date. If all of that is done and you still have a problem, buy a new PC
Isn't the latest version 15.0.1 or are talking about the beta. Surely a beta software shouldn't be needs to make a current website work. Plug-ins are up to date.

If you take out the bits about where any conflicts will be resolved "... new york, alberta, england, australia, new zeland" Dreamstime will accept it.

I've never had a problem using my own version of a release with iStock or any other site for that matter. Just make sure it has all the info from the model, photographer and witness that the istock release demands.

perhaps it would be fun to start a poll.. I just had a mass 'rejection' / 'acceptance' on shutterstock and the day is...monday, tuesday etc. Then we could fish out the day that the strict review works lol unless their schedule is sporadic of course.

Same for me yesterday - 56 uploads, 51 rejected. All perfectly reasonable travel shots, most of which were accepted by Dreamstime.
Steve
I really hate feeding conspiracy theories but I'd have to agree that there is one or two reviewers at Shutterstock that are a lot stricter than the others. I often see 95%-100% acceptance but then all of a sudden, on photos from the same shoot but different upload see 25-50% acceptance. I'd also agree that the mass rejections often come on the weekends.

snip We're currently running a photo contest via our facebook fan-page. It is open for anyone to enter, so if you have some spare time, why don't you check it out?
Oh, and we got some comments about not everyone being on facebook etc - so next time around we'll launch it directly from the website instead. But for now, it is open and running.
And basically it's about them building up their facebook "social" presence, disguised as something good for everybody else, otherwise it would have been launched from a website.
Having been someone behind running a contest before, it is a big challenge to try and please everyone - it's impossible I suppose. Also, I'd rather a company give something away to their fans while building up their social network than simply buying ads on facebook or google. It seems a much better (and funner) use of advertising dollars than text ads.

Thanks for your input Mantis. Actually, there are two stages in this contest. Take a look...I am sure you will see it is not "all about the votes" after all.
Yeah, but you need the votes on the first half. I get fed up of being on forums and random people I've never heard of signing up to beg people to vote for them on some sort of competition. Good luck to anyone who enters. Never heard of the black magic cinema camera, so I guess I've learned something.
Here's a couple posts to get you started about the camera http://www.togtech.com/tag/blackmagic-cinema-camera/

The point is to help the agencies build huge collections of free images off of which they'll make money and you won't.
So true. I was browsing photoXpress the other day, for the first time. Isn't this the site that Fotolia sends "free" images? You have to buy a subscription to download them. So they are making money on images donated for "free" by contributors. And as far as I could see there was no link back to the paid Fotolia site, much less the portfolio of the donating contributor. Struck me as obscene.
Maybe they didn't intend this when they opened the free site, but I truly believe they discovered how great it is to be a distributer AND a partner at the same time. We signed up with Fotolia. They open up a 2nd legal independent corporation, shift our work there and sell it on behalf of Fotolia. They take their commission, then Fotolia takes their commission of what is left, and we get our pennies.
Have you tested it and know that that is how it works? When there is a sale at PhotoXpress (which is owned by Fotolia) do both PhotoXpress AND Fotolia take a cut?

That is a very useful addition. We have been asking for this for years on istock. Good to see one site implementing it.
Does Shutterstock also have a specialized newsletter "New uploads by your preferred artists" or something? The way ebay does it? Or many other online shops?
"Personalize the buying experience". The only solution to the overflow of images is to create personal micro markets within the plattform of an agency.
At least for those agencies that consider themselves a marketplace with a bottom up approach.
Yeah, good suggestions. I really hope they put this to work for them.

I think I'd hold out for the H5d which they've just announced .. it may cost a little more but it will improve your photography that much more again.

Ok - stock photography is the blunt of a lot of jokes.. Most jokes however, do hold a rather overbearing element of truth

.. Even if we just rounded to the nearest answer we'd see the same problem. If you earn $36 on site A and $74 on site be they would both get the $50 answer. When people get close to voting the next level though, there will be others who did mange to break the next level. There will also be those who had bigstock below the $20 mark so I think all in all the average will work out to give us some good pointers.
A. if you round to nearest number, the biggest error is half of the interval. $15 for [20 to 50] B. if you round to low boundary, the biggest error is interval (-1 cent), i.e. almost one interval. $29.99 for the same case
average error, for method A would be 1/4 of interval {(min + max) / 2 = (0 + 15) / 2 = $7.5}, method B average error is 1/2 of interval = $15 , so accuracy of A is better
Yeah, you are right, A is more accurate, and perhaps using method A in the polls would be better - if for nothing else but our sanity. In the polls though, we aren't looking for an accurate number per say, just an accurate ranking, one site to another. Both A and B method have the same potential to have two voters with nearly $40 difference in earnings vote the same amount. .. anyhow the difference isn't much and i agree it would make more sense to do it the more mathematically correct way so I'll change the instructions.

iStock Exclusive: Worst download count since 2003. Income is a long way under the "Good Old Days".
thanks for posting the graph. It paints a pretty clear picture of what's happening. There seems to be quite a few people who had a poor month on iStock last month (including me) but there also must be quite a few who had a good month (according to the poll) http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?page=PollResults

I don't know if you've given any thought to this, but as I answered the poll for this month, it occurred to me that I couldn't be very accurate with some of the lower earning sites because of the way we're instructed to answer.
It says you must select the number where you have at least that amount, not the number closest to the amount you earned.
As an example, in September on PhotoDune I earned just shy of the $50 payout. I had to answer $20 as that was the next lower choice, but I was within $4 of $50, so really answering $50 would have given a much better picture of where PD stood. I answered $20 for BigStock too - they were about $30 for the month. So for the poll, the two sites look equivalent, but they really aren't (although if BigStock continues to be un-dead, things may turn around in a month or two!)
you have a point but when things are going to be rounded one way or another they are going to be less accurate than they could be. Even if we just rounded to the nearest answer we'd see the same problem. If you earn $36 on site A and $74 on site be they would both get the $50 answer. When people get close to voting the next level though, there will be others who did mange to break the next level. My eyes aren't super great with colors but I can see that the images you posted look pretty red, yeah. That said, when I drag them into photoshop, they look quite fine.
