That was 5 weeks ago. I don't think I got an e-mail. I guess I'll have to go back and look for it.

I don't even know how much I was overpaid. Did I miss it when this was announced? I don't check their forums much.

"People are actually smart enough to read and research for themselves and come to their own conclusions."

I certainly hope so! There is some really great information in this thread and some really misleading things too. Everyone who is reading this thread please take some time to find out the whole picture.

StockFresh / Re: SFR sales
« on: February 12, 2014, 11:59 »
I don't really check my sales there. Just at the end of the month. Usually I get one or more a month but the RPD is over $5.00 so I don't see them as hurting my sales elsewhere so why not leave my images there and collect some Christmas money at the end of the year.

Leo is absolutely not abandoning the project. He has just changed how he will communicate. In fact his is reworking the .com site so that it is more customer focused. I've had a few PM's from him in the last couple of days. Sounds like some pretty cool things are around the corner. Jo is right however about getting back what you put in. Symbiostock will probably not work for you if you treat it like an agency. It does require some love and time. If you are looking for a site that you can be proud of with potential for good sales in the future and are willing to be patient and give a reasonable amount of continued effort Symbiostock will probably be a good fit for you. If you want a quick way to make big sales without much work you are definitely looking in the wrong place.

Will the paypal notices eventually go away. I do not even have a symbiostock site up at the moment and I am getting these notices.

Glad someone brought this back, I hadn't noticed and I was trying to add the site to my PayPal. Good to know when I do the next one, I won't need to.

I do have a question if anyone knows.

Say I have three SyS sites. All hosted on different domain names. And they all use the same PayPal account. Will that start to cause some sort of problem?

I don't think so, I built a specialty site for a very specific niche, use the same paypal as my original site and the test purchase went through just fine.

I got the same email.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Blue host down again? Sick of it
« on: February 10, 2014, 10:41 »
I received a warning e-mail about 12 hours prior to the downtime:

"Tomorrow night, beginning between the hours of 8 PM - 4 AM MST, we will be performing a kernel update on your server.  We estimate the outage to be approximately 15-30 minutes.  During this time, your email, website and account will not be accessible.  This updated kernel brings a number of significant enhancements in all aspects of the kernel, the integral part of which the rest of the Operating System relies upon.  You can read more about the changes in this kernel at http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_3.4.

We apologize that we cannot give you an exact time-frame between these 8 hours as to when you will experience the downtime due to the number of additional servers we will be performing this update on as well.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this planned outage, please contact support."

So this is what they were doing.

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Process Upload Stopped
« on: February 09, 2014, 17:21 »
Looks like this problem was solved on the symbiostock.org site for anyone with a similar problem.

185
Strange, its working for me.

Martha and Ron, Leo knows who his friends are. He just had a bad day. I wouldn't give this issue any more thought. Symbiostock is in a good place and it is now being overseen by a much happier Leo. I think everyone should continue to voice their concerns and comments. That is how we will continue to grow. No-one should feel like they need to be silent for fear of reprisal. That is what symbiostock is all about. Working together to create a better solution.

Happy to have my site featured. www.teamclipart.com

Thank you. Just so you know you inspired me! When I first started in 2009 I wanted to be completely independent and only joined the micros because I couldn't afford my own site. Now partially thanks to you it is looking like I can't afford to upload to the micros. Nice change of events. My future is more in my own hands than ever before and I have the luxury of saying See-ya to any micros that don't behave the way I would like. Isn't this what we are all looking for?

Wishing good sales to all no matter what route you may choose. Remember as contributors we have more in common than we disagree about. It just seems like disagreeing is more interesting.

Leo, can you please remove my name from the title of this thread? I don't mind the link or the first post but this thread has strayed pretty far from the intent of my original post over at symbiostock.org. There is a lot of negativity in this thread and my name is tied to it in the title. I have had some success with symbiostock and I have done enough testing to know that it is not because of my network (although the networking I am sure helps). FWIW, I am not an original member and am not part of the good ole boys club that has been referenced in this thread. I work hard at my sites and I put a lot of effort into how the search engines find my images. Any insinuation that my results are due to conspiracies or back room deals are a bit insulting.

Symbiostock is not a sales genie, it takes work. It is not an agency where you upload and are done, but that is why we get to keep 98%. I thought I would share some ideas on why I think I have been successful so that others might improve their sales. I really didn't anticipate how poorly my intentions would be received.
Symbiostock has been good for me and I appreciated all of the hard work everyone has put into it.

Best
Dennis

Symbiostock - General / Re: Symbiostock artists collective
« on: January 21, 2014, 19:41 »
Building and maintaining a site is quite a bit of work. When you add hosting and managing payments I think a more equitable split is 70-30. This way the host won't lose interest and actually has a motivation to promote and build the site. I would be happy for a 70% commission if all I did was upload and collect payments.

Illustration - General / Re: 2013 Vector Sales
« on: January 02, 2014, 13:25 »
I think sites like clipartof have shown illustrators that there are better options out there. I also believe that illustrators are starting to limit the uploads to the less friendly and lower rpd sites. Buyers seem to have no problem finding the smaller niche and personal sites if they like an illustration. I stopped uploading to the sub sites almost a year ago but my overall sales continue to rise. After a year of hosting my own sites I have started to realize that there are images that should be sold by the subscription model and those which will sell very well on higher rpd sites. In 2014 I will make images specifically for the high volume sites and I will leave my niche images for myself and a precious few agencies like CAO and Toonvectors.

You can't trust the poll on the left as an illustrator. Without experimenting you probably won't know your top 5-8 sites.
My two cents as an illustrator would be this.

Try GL, and Toonvectors - Each has lower sales but good Rpd --GL around $5.00 and TV $14.00
I have good luck with DT, 123 and Canstock as well. Decent Rpd at these sites for me. Around $2.00 to $2.50
If you are OK with a lot of sub sales you will want to try SS, IS, DT, BS and FT. Rpd between $.40 and $1.50

I like Yay and Stockami because of a fairly high Rpd.

Finally think about starting a symbio site.
With a small port like you have right now uploading and testing a number of sites will be relatively easy.

for another one that is not working.

Thanks
BTW the check box is when you post, it's right below the posting window with a little plus sign. After I unchecked it I stopped getting the e-mails. I never even knew it was there.

Yep, it should be on that page.  Make sure this line is unchecked
"Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic."

I can't understand why the links are working for some people and not others but I'll take a look at it.  I know it is very annoying not being sent to the last unread post.

I just found the little box for attachments that says "Notify me of replies" when I went to respond. I bet thats it. Is that new?

I saw this and turned them off after the first response. However my e-mail is still blowing up and I am getting one every time someone responds to this thread. Maybe I will just have to deal with it for this thread and it will stop with any new ones.

I'm getting automatic subscriptions to the topics I reply to now. That's new. And annoying.

Yep.
Me also and I could do without it as well.

I'm in Colorado, I believe Sean is in Missouri. Maybe a server issue?
