New Sites - General / Re: Tuwemei - FT reseller?
« on: August 14, 2009, 09:07 »
quick comparisson shows identical images FT and this place... In fact the same images that were irrelevant to the category.  After wading thru 80 pages of irrelevant stuff, I did not find my top seller at FT there, however there were hundreds of pages to go.
If I were a buyer, I'd be totally ticked at having to spend so much time looking a nonsense that was not applicable to my search.
"Living room"...    turns up a gray cat closeup, torso shot of woman in bra holding a laptop, closeup of man with headsets on....and pages and pages of other shots that had nothing to do with the search.... WTH?

This thread goes back to an active one last week about how many places our pix are being spread out to without our knowledge!!  And in that thread the letters FT kept turning up again and again.  Just how many 'partners' do they have? ANYONE KNOW?
I'd go on and search FT myself, except I haven't been able to access my account for several weeks now and get no help from support......
totally ticked in New Jersey >:(=tom

Man, this is getting frustrating. Been struggling for days to log in, even after the abovementioned tricks....Anybody out there got news or new tricks?

what are you using?  I can no longer log on under an old netscape (used since day one for 3 years)  and must now use firefox. Evidently it matters somehow...  8)=tom

On the other hand.... and I wonder how many others of you this has happened to?

Several months ago, I was contacted by a subscriber on IS thru my profile contact wanting to buy two images privately, I was under the impression that they wanted to buy the rights to the pix...
   I never responded.

Anyone else have this happen anywhere?  8)=tom

Does Shutterstock have exclusives?

Nope.  But if they did, it would be an offer I'd have a hard time refusing.

Honestly...  I'd have to really consider it just based on this catch and action.  They found some of mine too. MUCH THANKS TO SS!  I have NEVER had a problem with SS and have always been treated fairly and professionally!!  8)=tom

.......  pain in the butt going thru all those pix...  but

and yeah looks like he's been 86'd at others.... if you've found one of your pix on one, you can bet it's on others ....

I am so tired of this and yeah, it has happened to me but far as I can tell after spending a 1/2 hour, not by this person. 8)=tom

I have to confess..... when I first started out.... unbeknowst to me, I uploaded several pix with sensor spots... and some micros didnt catch them. It wasnt until I uploaded the same files to IS that they were caught.   Needless to say, I went back and corrected the earlier submissions... cleaned my cam and learned a lesson

I shot in many locations where it was a problem... such as the deserts of the American west... it's a wonder any of those pix came out,  110 degrees in the shade, blowing wind and trying to change a lens...  if the sensor wasnt dirty, the mirror, the lens... and everything else was.  including every orifice on my body...... but, you make it work, do what you gotta do to get the shot.

Thankfully, the 5D Mk II  cleans itself every time I power down. Ya gotta love that.  8)=tom

Alamy.com / Re: What is the correct way to upsize for Alamy?
« on: August 10, 2009, 17:39 »
.......Yeah, one of the reasons I upped to the 5D Mk II...... when I was upsizing, it was a big pain in the butt....
needless to say, I didn't read every post in detail, but in scan I didnt see it mentioned... so I'll say it for....
All newbies....  even though many might say  "well that goes without saying" ... one thing you have to absolutely keep in mind.....to uprez from those smaller files to what Alamy wants... you have to make sure that the image is  absolutely.... technically perfect to start..
A pic you may have gotten accepted on other micros... may have a tech imperfection that will not be so evident in the smaller files....however, uprezing is not forgiving and any problem will only be 'amplified"..... just mentioned so that you may not waste time..

or, ..... you pros at this.... am I mistaken? If I am, please feel free to set me straight.  8)=tom

Adobe Stock / Re: I am so sick of Fotolia rejects..
« on: August 10, 2009, 17:27 »
Rejections................. I can't even get on the flippin site!!!   My password wont work.... it hasn't worked in well over a month... I have literally lost count of the number of times I have mailed support to fix my problem.... and all the keep sending me is that stupid  "here's how to change your password" link...

which doesnt flippin work for me... I have mailed them at least a half dozen times n the last week....  explaining it all... one email they wanted my "life story".... I went to mail it back and got  "undeliverable"  to the reply address  [email protected]
that happened 3 times....   I mailed them last on saturday and have yet to get a reply.....

I am so tired of Fotolia...   All I want to do now is have a legal gaurantee that my pix will be deleted from all the 'partners'  and from fotolia ..... and I want to close my account...

Dealing with them has been nothing but a royal pain in the hine=end since day one almost 3 years ago....whatever.......

I can honestly say in my case.....  They are the WORST I have ever experienced in all my dealings with the dozen and a half or more sites I have been associated with since I got into this biz.  More... their customer service may very well be the WORST I have ever dealt with in life!!!

Tomorrow..... I start heating up phone lines.... enough is enough...  doing it the 'proper' way just doesnt seem to work........for me. My patience with them is at its end.
I Have no doubt that there are many of you that have no problems with them and may feel the sun rises and sets on Fotolia.                    ...Not Me.    8)=tom

I'm sooooooooooooo happy I deleted all but 2 of my pix a couple years ago... I stand to lose relative peanuts in $$$  ..... they can keep the flippin money and maybe spend it on .......CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: What type of camera are you using?
« on: August 05, 2009, 11:25 »
the top of my pile of working cams....   which are ALL Canon...

5D Mk II.....       and I LOVE it!!!
we have  6 Canons in the stable. My personal back-up, which I still rave about is an  original Rebel.   The only reason I went up to the 5D was for possible macro submission and  with that large an image you have more to play with in post production...and still wind up with a massive file.
For those looking into publishing (books/magazines)... it is of interest to note that publishers have even accepted low MP quality images from our Canon Point and Shoots and have blown them up full page with quality results.
that is why to this day, I am baffled why micros wont take (generally) anything smaller than 6MP.   I've had 2 point somethings printed full page in magazines and looked absolutely fantastic.  8)=tom

oh, one more feature I love about the 5D Mark,   the ability to fuel the thing with double A batteries.....   lost count of the times THAT has saved my bacon. LOL

Panthermedia.net / Re: easyfotostock and panthermedia
« on: August 03, 2009, 12:52 »
@Tom:
There is no lack of communication since all distribution partners are listed here.
However, you have a point about being informed about newly added distribution partners separately. This is a good proposal and we will consider to make the names of existing and new distribution partners not only available on the website I mentioned before, but also the newly added distribution partners regularly in our newsletter.
Andy

Thanks, Andy...  Panther seems to be lightyears ahead of other agencies in the communications area!!
I think I am going to try to  submit to Panther,  hopefully, you (panther) may find some of my images of value, possibly able to have a sales niche there. I am primarily landscape/travel.  We'll see, and if not,  understandable.
Thanks again for the info, sir!! Appreciated! 8)=tom

Not sure if you missed my link or are referring to other agencies, but,  http://www.panthermedia.net/index.php?page=cms%2Fpages%2Fdisplay2.php&cms_id=196&select_language=en ;)

So did I, apologies to ZYMM....  this is what I'm talkin about...
Now... if I were to app at Panther... I know exactly what I'm getting into and I can make my choice yes or no. I think what others are reffering to is partners being added after the fact and a lack of communication to the contributors and an inability to defer.
But... such is the nature of the beast and if we want to play, I suppose we have to keep in mind,  it's their football. We make our choices and we move forward. 8)=tom

If it gets me more sales I think the partnering thing is great :) but being "naturally inquisitive" (read nosey bugger) I'd like to know which partners. I dont think it would be too much work for an agency to list somewhere in the submitters areas this the list of partners do you want to opt in? then we could say hey agency xyz is great and really doing things because they have 3.14159 partners etc.  Or is there some reason for keeping it secret?
  bold my addition t

What's so unreasonable about this?  Why not a comphrehensive list? Why not the ability to have this list easily accessible to all contributors and offer the ability to opt in or out on all or a la carte?  I wish I had the opportunity to pick and choose looking at some of the sites my stuff has been fed to. Sites that if they were listed at opt time... I just might have said 'no'.
All or nothing is the only option? And just because I opted in on what was offered at the time I opted in.... how's it okay for the agency to add on 'partners' and not advise the contributor that her/his work is now also going outbound once again? From a couple of the threads active right now, it seems there's a heckuva lotta photogs being 'surprised' by where they are finding their work.... unbeknownst to them... how it got there.

Kind of blank check isnt it?  If you say yes once, we can do whatever we want to do?  Maybe I'm missing something......I dont see this as a good business practice...  ? 8)=tom

No offense implied to zymmetrical or zeus... just want further insight as why this is not okay...maybe I'm missing something...

Newbie Discussion / Re: How do you keep track of your images?
« on: August 01, 2009, 15:36 »
I personally would not bother trying to track every single stock image because I know I'll get lazy soon enough,
--red highlights, my doing...

For sure, I can personally attest to that... I sit here now days behind. Obviously I should be doing that instead of this... and yet, here I am.
My advice after 3 years of excel tracking is....  find a good piece of software to do it and when you find it.. let me know which one is best. If I'm going to switch over all that data, I only want to do it once.. life is too short.  :D
The spread sheet thing works good up to a point. I'm way past it! LOL 8)=tom

In the meantime.... track it all someway... dont trust 'the man'

That might explain why I just found one of my images there, to my surprise.  I hate when this crap happens, unannounced.  Like someone went and robbed my warehouse and began selling it in their store.  Who knows how many times this could be happening, whether its to our knowledge or not.  The power of the internet.

too often and in too many places...  other threads on this wrap around FT doing the same.... along with the photo.com and JIU swapout and other nonsense... 8)=tom

Incidentally GM,  I feel the same.. if not, certainly tricked/bamboozled...  the old prestidigitation thing,  look here at this hand but not what the other one is doing...  poor business practice..

Tom,
These are previous discussions about my case.  Maybe one watermarked image was placed in one of the many sites where I found it and other people only copied it.  No credits to me, and in some cases the person claimed copyrights.

WOW.... it is really getting out of hand.  My concern is that there are so many LO pix still floating around.  I must admit I do not fully understand all the nuances of the web....   none-the-less....  this trend of ripped off images seems to be on the increase and our protection from our agencies and the supposed legit sites that support these rip off people seems to be on the wane.  8)=tom

General Stock Discussion / Re: If you had six months...
« on: August 01, 2009, 12:40 »
Tom - sorry to hear about all the bad times. I can't imagine losing one of my kids so I'm at a loss for what to say. I hope things start getting better for you.
What was said was more than enough and comforting, sincerely,Thanks much!!
Yeah, it's the worst, but life moves on... it is certainly different than losing all other loved ones...  in fact, it is 'alien'. It's not 'supposed to happen'.
None the less, it happens to many many on the planet daily and perhaps even at this very minute somewhere. It has certainly made me appreciate my other two children and grandchildren all the more.
Time heals, but in this case...   my life has been changed forever. There will always be a hole in my heart.  But, yes, things will get better.
Thanks for your words of comfort, PW.    tom

a.k.a.-tom you are my new hero with your excellent positive attitude.  :D :D :D

:D  Thanks fotografer... But I'm not all that special.  I just try to keep it all balanced and in perspective... easiest way to do that is look around and....     ...it's not hard to find someone that has problems worse than I do.
In my case, I was fortunate to catch it in the very beginning... stage one and localized..   so it's not all that hard to be positive when you're looking at a 95-100% cure.
When I sit in that clinic for the chemo and look around... I count my blessings. My heart is torn in two when I look at many of the others sitting around me with far less hope than I.   Sad, sad thing.    ...   Thanks for the support none-the-less, my friend, it is appreciated very much!    Tom

Madelaide....  hope I'm not opening another can of worms along with you...

BUT....
I cant help but notice that a few of my pix have shown up on obscure sites with  Lucky Oliver watermarks on them...  Unless this stuff is really old....  They aren't being sold, and my name is credited to the pic 8)=tom

I don't have a problem with iStock, its just they don't accept a lot of my images for "Not what we are looking for"  I mostly shoot architectural shots, as that is my field of work.  iStock seems to have plenty of those images I guess.

That blows my mind, Moonb007...  The site is loaded with arch shots.... seems to me keeping the pool fresh with new images would be a wise course. Not just check the counter.... Hey we have 200k arch shots, dont need any more, hit delete.

Just goes to continue the fact that there is no figuring the whys and whats of their thinking. 8)=tom

BTW, if the person knocking is a big ugly guy wearing a black leather jacket and his name is Vinny, RUUUUN!

rofl, funny but very wise words m@m

btw Tom,  to add to what m@m said, to avoid having to open the door to see Vinny standing under your porch light, look through your window drapes first to see if Vinny came in a black Rolls with white wall tyres  8)
oh, and make sure you get some bullet proof overcoat too. Try ebay  ;D

psst, and don't bother calling the constabulary, either. they got that covered  ;)

Words of wisdom, my friend!!   I'll be changing what's left out there to editorial.  One of the folks here pointed out to me that IS has no editorial cat.. I never noticed that, so obvious in my case why they just pulled the pix.
But some of the other stories cropping up here make no sense at all, especially the model release ones, and more so, if they are pix that are selling....
makes no sense. 8)=tom

200

You can also see why this person chose this particular image  - see how Fotolia "watermarks" are just around the model and can be easily removed by simple eraser tool? Both images are exactly the same size.

My point exactly.. the watermark is laughable, especially in isolated shots such as that one.  8)=tom
