OK well that explains it a bit I suppose but unlike you, Stacey's hearing loss does effect her ability to verbally communicate. While your hearing loss might not effect your photography imagine for a moment what it would be like to be on the other end of the lens and not be able to verbally communicate to only read lips partially and be working as a model with a photographer who does not know sign.

As a photographer I have to able to communicate what I want from my model in order to achieve the poses from the model that bring the high fashion look to life. This is often difficult at best to accomplish with a model who has no hearing loss let alone with one with total hearing loss.

As a result of this models astonishing work ethic she has found was to overcome these communication hurdles and be an effective model that can be directed when in the studio. She actually reads very subtle body language and has an innate intuition as to what I want from her based on the simplest of gestures. This actually makes her easier to work with then many models I have worked with who could could hear me and still not understand typical direction. The previous models I have worked with who were hearing impaired I was unable to direct at all.

So again I will say I was NOT LOOKING FOR SYMPATHY for Stacey but was in fact APPLAUDING her achievement. If my applause of her somehow offended you I am sorry. She is not being taken advantage of here, she is not being abused, she is not in need of a defender and there is NOTHING in it for me if she wins the contest. All prizes go to the model, the photographer of the submitted image is not even credited. If she wins her actual cover would be created by a staff photographer for 944 magazine.

Personally I believe she deserves the recognition for having the strength, talent and fortitude it has taken for her to rise above the challenge in front of her. You can be sure I have noting but absolute respect and admiration for this girl.

Who . are you to challenge my integrity?

The answer to your question is simple.

To Applaud her achievement.

The fact that the first two deaf woman that I tried to work with as models were unable to effectively model due to the communication issues that arose from them being deaf does to me indicate that it does have a bearing on modeling. The fact that Stacey has found a way to overcome the communication issues and be an effective model despite being deaf is worthy of applause.

So I am done defending it to you, I applaud this woman as a model, with or without disability she is simply one of the best models that I have ever worked with. The fact that she is challenged makes it even more amazing in my eyes so vote or don't vote I could care less.

You say she is good to work with and deaf that is why we should vote, if there is a better picture of a model that is not deaf and is a nightmare to work with why should we not vote for her?

If this model is so good then this thread should not be needed, and the fact that you are promoting her against other photographers models that may have just uploaded thier entry, compromises the whole concept of a competition.

You should upload and lets things take a natural course, not "pimp" your contribution over many forums and distort a fair and level playing field, all votes from members that registered after you print was uploaded should be voided.

The pimping does more damage than good to these competitions and the models, if she is "The One" then the image sould win on it's own merit, now if she finishes higher than the image merits then you may have given her the impression that she is better than she really is, I don't find the image special, and would not vote because you asked, this pimping is also the reason I do not bother with online competitions where people vote, these are meaningless when the winning image is not the best but the most pimped.

If she does well reflect on this "she will never know if she really did well, because the "pimped" photographers on shutterstock distorted the vote"

David

David these Cover Model Contests are just that they are contests and in the days of huge Myspace friensts lists and such they become popularity contests. If I and her and everyone else she and we know don't promote her entery she has no chance because the natural order has to compete with Myspace.

And for those who oppose the fact that I mentioned that she was deaf I assure you she won't have a problem with it nor will she have a problem playing the deaf card anywhere else if it will help her to overcome the hurdels that being deaf place in her life everyday and help her attain her goals

and if there is a better photo and better model then I agree it and she should win instead. All I am asking is that people look and make up their own minds

Oh Jeez this is ridiculous never mind she can win this without your help.  I have posted this in several communities and THIS is the only one to react with such vicious stupidity, what a bunch of children.

No. Not children. People here are a bit more critical.

That's why this is such a valuable forum. You don't get the vomit-inducing, sycophantic "Hey! Wow! That's sooooooooo coooooooool!!!!!!!!!!!!!" reactions that you tend to get on other photographic forums (fora?)

Let's face it ... in your first post you highlighted the fact that she was deaf by using capital letters amongst other things. In other words, you were invoking a sympathy vote.

I am sorry that she is deaf. It's a serious handicap. But, let's face it, that has no relevance to the quality of the image.

And people on this forum spotted that.

I beg to differ with you. This is the third deaf model I have worked with and the first two were almost impossible to work with. If you can't communicate with a model it is unlikely you will be bookh makes it all the more amazing in myng models I have ever worked with whic able to produce a quality image. This model however communicates better then most fully heari

It just looks like classic "The boy who cried wolf"

If you pimp, people assume that you are pimping regardless of what your real intentions are.

No offense meant. Best of luck to your model.

Sorry but I don't come here and pimp my images

I'm afraid that is how it came across to me as well.  Using somebody Else's deafness to promote himself.  I hope that I'm wrong but that's the way it sounds.

You ought to ashamed at pimping your images.

This is really reading like a bunch of Jealously to me. I expect this kind of response from a personality like Miz but the rest of you should know better.

If I wanted to promote myself I would Promote myself with my work not with somebody Else's disability. When I promote ME I use MY Work as MY WORK SPEAKS FOR ITS SELF

hate to be the devil's advocate, but
you should not even mention that she is DEAF.
i am sure she would be flattered to know that she got voted BECAUSE
everyone knew she WAS deaf, rather than that she IS a good model.
her merit would be in question, if you know what i mean 8)

Perhaps she has more difficulties than other models so why not supporting and try to do easier for her?
Of course I also like the photo and the gallery

perharps! but having experience in working with deaf ppl on relay and knowing many as personal friends, i know they hate to be treated with pity and prefer to be treated as like everyone.

here is what one of my deaf friends say, "why if there is a
better model who is NOT deaf? and that model did not win  due to the
pity we give to this deaf model?"

I did not mention that she was deaf for a pity vote I mention it so everyone can see how much she has risen above and what a phenomenal model she really is

She makes no bones about her deafness and is very upfront about it. The fact that she is deaf is in my eyes a very relative point since with most deaf models it makes the job significantly more difficult for the model and photographer / production team. However with Stacey she is SO good that it is not an issue and she rises above it better then most models who can communicate traditionally.

This has nothing to do with pimping my images. This is 100% about helping a fantastic Model achieve a goal for which she has worked increadibly hard and is very deserving of.

If I wanted to pimp the images I would and did do it at ShutterStock not here. If I was going to simply pimp the images this thread would have 10 shots from the shoot in it.

Ahh come on gang, I know I spend more time here lurking then posting but this girl really truly deserves your support. It is quick, and painless and is a really great magazine to boot.

Oh and did I mention this model is DEAF and I mean deaf as in can not hear a WORD! Yet she is one of my absolute favorite models to work with. Go to the GALLERY and look at her sweet, crying face and then try to ignore her :-)

Hi Photoshow, I registered on the site (with the intention of voting) - it said "check your inbox" for the validation email and so far i haven't had a thing from them (this was last night). I very rarely get email probs, so maybe their registration system isn't up to much?

Anyway, if I ever get their email, I'll login and vote - best of luck to her in the competition!  :)

Yea there has been a glitch in there reg system but once you register the system will let you log in and vote even without the confirmation email

Hey All, recently I have been working with Stacey Scott a fantastic and fresh young model here in Las Vegas. Stacey is one of the most intuitive models I have ever worked with she is also DEAF and I simply can not say enough good things about her ability as a Model.

She has entered one of my photographs in the current 944 Cover Model Search so if you could drop her a vote it would be appreciated all around.

Click here for the 944 Cover Contest!

Thanks

frankly, i think FL will just laugh at this revolt ;D

just total your images and find the percentage your images hold compared to FL inventory!
unless you're Yuri or whoever that's their breadwinner,
i don't think this revolt is even a pimple , like Miz pointed out.

i like FL, i 'm a newbie and have been there 3 months with no sales from them, while the other sites i joined have already given me sales within their first 3 weeks.
but i like to think FL is a slow starter as they  , at least the reviewers who reviewed my images, are quite polite and when they do reject my images give me a good explanation instead of "this is a snapshot!"

i think i'll wait and give FL the benefit of the doubt.
hilariously, if you ppl do pull out, it's all the better for us too,  ;D ;D

just joking! ::)

Many of us who have set our heels in over this issue are in the top 50 earners for Fotolia, if a significant number of us cease doing business with them they will feel the impact.

They may only loose 1-3% or their overall inventory but it will be 1-3% of their top earning inventory and that is a significant issue.  I can tell you from having had personal communications with the top of the company over this they think they are going to play hardball but in the end they will come to the table with a better deal. They have to and they know it. They played us for fools and have now realized that it was a mistake to do so.

I have over 4,448 images there with another couple thousand that were in the que for uploading there. I am prepaired to ride this until the wheels fall off it need be and FT managment knows it.

I would suggest you read the EULA of the site that licensed the image. Odds are good that there will be a clause in the license prohibiting the use of the image for sensitive issues. Typically royalty free images are not allowed to be used in a way where the average person would find reasonably belive the use to cause embarasment.

The day has come at last that I can formally introduce

I will be opening the doors for business on January 15th and am excited to officially announce that Becky Abell will be joining our staff as the Manager of our 28'x30' Members Studio.

The members studio will offer emerging Las Vegas based photographers the opportunity to work in a professional studio environment with ready access to advice and personal tutelage from several working Professional Photographers. The environment of VVS is one in which you as a photographer can professionally present your own company brand to clients without all the expense and overhead of maintaining your own full time studio and store front. Oh and speaking of Environment did we mention that ALL STAGES ARE FULLY AIR CONDITIONED!

Members of Vegas Vision Studios will have the following great studio and business benefits available to them.

* A minimum of 20 hours of studio access a month with 8 hours of that guaranteed to be available on a weekend.

* Use of a 3 strobe studio light kit with soft boxes,(Sm, med, lg and 5' Octagon) reflectors, umbrellas and all the other typical light modifiers needed to produce pro quality commercial work.

There will also be many opportunities for members to work alongside myself and Becky and assist us with shoots. We will also always look first to our membership when Paid Opportunities to assist us on shoots arise.

For more information on how you can join Vegas Vision Studios simply contact me via email at
bobby at realdealphoto.com
and I will get you all the details.

Here is a floor plan of the studios.

195
If an image is properly isolated then a clipping path is a moot point because a reversed selction of the background will provide you with the same end result as embedding the path in the image.

196
Hi Becky, I will do what I can to ease Pixelbrats concerns but the proper advice has already been given.

Pixelbrat, there is no reason to not do a deal with this person if through talking with them you determine that the usage they intend is legitimate and acceptable to you. Simply discuss the terms of use with them, agree on those terms and the amount of payment, send them an invoice that references the license you will also send for them (as a signed and locked PDF). Note on the invoice and the license that the license is only valid if payment is received. Once all is agreed have them pay you via PayPal or any other means you are comfortable with but do not give them the banking info to do a bank wire transfer unless you have an account set up at your bank that you keep no money in and that you use specifically for receiving wire transfers for customers out of the country you have never done business with.

Once you receive payment deliver the images If you need a license to send them you can email me through my website site at realdealphoto.com telling me what the terms are and I will be happy to send you one you can use as a reference point to make your own.

Private image sales can be a good source of additional income, your agreements with the stock agencies are non exclusive so there is no ethical issue here . You do however have to approach each private situation intelligently and with a bit of caution, as there are scams out there but if you do the deal the way I have described it then you have no more to worry about from the standpoint of fraud and or misuse then you would have if the person downloaded the images from Istock.

197
Those that are organizing it are discussing it over on Shutterstock. I unfortunately won't be able to attend this side excursion but expect it will be a great experience for those who go.

Details are at http://submit.shutterstock.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20575

Hey all, a quick update

We moved the workshop from 2 seperate locations in Las Vegas to a 3,500 square foot air conditioned vaction home with a pool. You can see photos of the house and get the full updates at
http://www.luckyoliver.com/odditorium/post/286/las_vegas_studio_lighting_seminar_new_det

We have enough models booked for this event to allow for group shots and to keep everyone shooting throughout the 2 days. You won't have a bunch of standing around waiting for your turn to shoot.

There is a group starting to plan an excrusion to the Grand Canyon / Flagstaff / Sedona AZ. after the seminar which should result in some additional photo opps that will be spectacular.

If you want to join us for this event we still have 2 spots open.

199
For those interested that have not already seen it you can find photos of most of the models that are booked for the workshop in the thread about it in the Oddatorium at LO

200
Any updates on the workshop, Bobby?

Yes lots I have just been a bit slow this last week due to an injury to my leg.

Becky has done a great job of negotiating $60.00 room rates for all the workshop attendees at the Monte Carlo which is located right in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip. This reflect a HUGE rate discount over the typical weekend rates of $200 - $400 a night for a Hotel on the strip.

Also several models are already booked and I will assemble some photos of them for you to see but it is looking like the response to the casting call for this workshop has been great and we should have models a plenty. Enough to even do some group shots.

I will keep you all updated as things progress. We still have 3 spots left for this workshop and now that room rates have been released I don't expect they will last long so if you want to attend you will need to act fast.
