Finally.
I think it will take at least one year to build a considerable portfolio to generate sales.
I will upload too.

As said before Inkscape is a free open source software http://inkscape.org and can be a good one for a start. Then, as Adobe has killed his competitors (buying and burying them), you have few alternatives out of Illustrator (a very powerful gas plant)
Please correct me if I am wrong, but will the EPS output of InkScape be good enough for the EPS10 vector submission standards of SS ? Thanks !
Eps files created by Inkscape is accepted by SS. I have some files in my SS portfolio created with IS. But I don't know the eps version of an IS eps. It doesn't ask you the eps version when saving. So it may not be eps10. Nevertheless SS accepts it. It seems SS is not accepting only eps10 ones. If you use gradients in your eps SS will likely to reject it because of bitmaps.

Could somebody please tell me how will I find my portfolio in TS?
I have 500 on IS but I wonder how much of them are on IS. I found one of mine on TS but there was no info/link about the artist.
Enter in search box Your Name. Write . Do not write
Thank you. (484 in TS out of 510)

A guy goes into an "all you can eat" restaurant and pays 5 bucks. In the very unlikely event that he eats an entire cow, does the farmer who raised the animal and for which he received payment at the market rate, feel that is work has been devalued?
Probably he does not feel that way. Because tomorrow that guy will feel hungry again and will need another cow. But in MS, once you download a RF image you use it until the end of time, if not you share it with your colleagues/friends.
But the farmer can only sell his cow once, while I can sell an image many, many times.
He can sell his cow once but he can produce as much as he want when he sees an opportunity. Also he does not have to be creative, he can produce the similar ones over and over again. But here I need to be creative; I can produce the same image only once.

I think it is very unlikely that the debt crisis in the US may be the cause of the weak sales in microstock market. Because microstock is actually a cheaper option for buyers and should be more popular especially during the crisis times. As far as I remember, in 2008, 2009 World economy was in a deeper crisis but our sales performance was better when compared to 2013.
I have been in this business since late 2006 and I think, up until 2012 buyers used to buy a lot of images and built up a quite remarkable stock in their internal drives and since then they look for only new and very interesting/high quality images.
Of course there has to be / will be also new (to microstock) customers but most of them will be more likely to be the small businesses (ad agencies) and individuals (students, teachers, company managers).
In my opinion, we have left the booming period way behind.
"A time limit" for usage (like best before in food broducts) can boost the market but I am not sure if it could be applicable?

When I search among the illustrations I see 3 different type of results;
- Only EPS
- Only JPEGs
- JPEGs + EPS
And all the images start with the word; "vector image of ..."
This may make the search complicated/long for the customers.
Just my 2 cents..

I have some vector files which have been accepted. As far as I see only EPS version is on sale (like SS). But I saw some other vectors in the site with JPEG versions available as option.
I had uploaded via FTP, as EPS plus big JPEG zipped, approx 15 days ago.
So do I have to upload the raster as a seperate file or am I doing sth wrong ?
Thanks in advance.

At least at the beginning, rather than working in most selling categories, focusing in some neglected categories could me more profitable for you. Business concepts, people, lifestyles are selling a lot but you have to compete with thousands of talented artists for this market. You should search, think and try to find an opportunity which also suits your capabilities and strenghts.

I started with Inkscape, learned the basics of vector by using it then moved to Adobe Illustrator. Inkscape is an open source free vector program to learn but after a certain point you may need to buy AI if you are keen to create vector designs for Microstock agencies. Gradients and transparancies created by IS is not editable in AI and this limits your creativity. I don't have any experience with other programs like Corel Draw or Free Hand.

Better than last year but same as August.
I had ecpected at least %10 jump in September compared to August.
By Agency:
1) SS: %64 2) DT: %18 3) IS: %9 4) FT:%5 5) Rest: %4
By Product:
1) Photo: %80 2) Vector: %11 3) Footage: %9

I wish we could have a list of agencies with their keyword/search placement preferences. For example; first 7 keywords are important in fotolia or title is important in this site, caption is important in that site etc. It is as important as the quality of your image if you want to make money.

I joined them at the beginning of this year and at that time their place on the rankings was way up. I had very good old days with StockXpert, and I like the concept of this one, but unfortunately my experience is not very different I don't get even views.

I must be the only one here that is a CC subscriber, is happy with the product and doesn't mind the $50 a month cost.
I pay 17 $ for AI only. (I have Elements 11 and NX2 for photos, Premiere Elements 11 for videos.) I think it does worth the price.

If SS wants to acquire a competitor, Pond5 could be a more likely candidate than DT I think. Once they buy P5, they will be able to dominate the microfootage market maybe %80.
Just my 2 cents..

( I ) divide the royalties to downloads, since ( at least for now ) all of them are 0.28, it is easy to identify.
I don't know any other way to see it..

If you have a ready to upload portfolio with at least 1000 photos, upload to 20 sites. But if you are at the beginning, spend your time to produce more and upload them to big 5-6 sites.
Some may say that while you are already uploading to 5, you can also upload to 20 with a little extra effort. This may be true. But don't forget it may take years for you to reach your first pay out from low earners with a small portfolio.

Frankly speaking, if this is not a fiction; it may be confidential. But when "microstock+sector+report" searched at Google it comes as the third result.

While I was searching for a free Microstock Industry Report I came across this. It is a kind of compact examination of the industry from Agencies' perspective over Fotolia. It might be interesting for those never seen before. Sorry if it has already been shared and discussed before. http://www.ucalgary.ca/mbasociety/files/mbasociety/Case%20CONFIDENTIAL_0.pdf(I found it through a google search, so I assume it is not confidential)
