Lonesome Bengal cat from Steve's SYS site is number 1 for me too
Here too. I notice mainly a difference in the ads i get served from Google whether I am logged in or not. Besides that, I have trouble seeing how google could possibly favor one 'bengal cat' before the other based on personal search characteristics. I can see, though, that google might want fool us into believing our SEO is working.

They keep 85% of my sales, then try to hang on to my measly 15% as long as they possibly can? From now until they decide to pay independents a decent commission (like that will ever happen), they get nothing but my SS rejects. No quality control and 15% .....they are now my new recycle bin.
Is there any point uploading SS rejects there? I'm not wasting time on their tedious upload procedure, unless I get really bored one day. It isn't worth it for the little they pay, lack of sales for new images and the threat of more deals like the Google one.
Why are there still so many long threads about istock here? Independents should of got the message by now, theyre a waste of time for us, we should forget about them and spend time with sites that have some respect for us.

Agreed! It should be that way. But I am not going to wait for Google et al. implementing such feature.
I have a strong feeling you dreamt about Symbiostock. I started putting photos online on my site just 4 weeks ago. Many of them are all over the micros as well. Guess what: I already found a few of my pics on Google page 1 ahead of most agencies.
Follow your dreams?

The link got garbled.
I am not much of a photographer myself but I sure like good food. I wish tasty ripe cherries were as cheap up here in the Yukon as a license for using this image.

Thanks Leo, for explaining everything so carefully.
I have set my site to "red" in the content filter and Allow unrated images to "Yes" so I should be seeing everything. I have a few images that I marked as yellow last night - if anyone that has me in their network wants to search for "Liverpool", you can test your own settings. You should see some photos of some statues on a beach near Liverpool.
Steve
Steve, I see your Liverpool statues on my site no matter what color I set my content filter. Now, I am not sure if this is supposed to work instantly or only after a site/network/symbiocard update... I'll leave my filter setting on "green" for a while so you can try and test things, too. On a side note I hope no one finds these beautiful statues offending...

Great write-up, Leo. I hope it helps the dust to settle that the last rounds of updates introducing new functions and new bugs (of course) stirred up. You have given us a nice unique piece of software and a whole new world of self-hosting/self-marketing our images that didn't exist before. This is already much fun to explore and I am sure it will be even more fun in the future. Beside the fun part I am confident it will start selling regularly at some point as well.
Thank you and the SY community for all of this. And I hope you'll have a blast of a great time away from all of this, too.

http://www.symbiostock.com/how-does-symbiostock-promote-you/ http://www.symbiostock.com/v2-3-3-arctium-effect-added-your-site-travels-by-itself-now/
ok, that's pretty much what I thought was happening -- however, in that case what does the 'promoted' box in the marketing page list do?
also, when a search is done on several words, do both have to be in someone's promoted keyword list in order for that site to get shown? that would greatly reduce the number of times any promoted site gets accessed. or if only one word is promoted, is there a search on that site for the other word in combination with the promoted word
eg, if the search is for 'india' and 'elephant' , and i'm not in the networked list at that site, would it still show my images because I promote 'india' and have images that satisfy the 2 keywords?
good question! Never thought of all these implications. I have a few compounded promoted keywords such as "northern lights". I now wonder if those work at all given the difficulties searching for compounded keywords our sites still have. Guess I'd do some testing and optimizing promoted keywords accordingly

DLs do seem to be increasing and earnings for June exceeded any month in 2012 without anything new added since October. Guess I might as well start again
Not for me and I never stopped uploading Maybe they gave your images a bonus in their search to lure you into uploading again

Being an IT person, believe me when I say it's management and not the IT people. Their thinking is strictly sales minded and not the tech end that's needed to provide their wild wish lists. In IS's case, the ship is sinking. It wasn't the IT dept that made the decision to join Getty in the first place or any of those special weird image classifications they've created. However, if the IT dept is incompetent, that's another story.
I believe you 100%. Just look at the Symbiostock threads to see what just one IT whiz can achieve in a matter of a few weeks. I don't know if the IS ship is sinking and I DO know that their system sucks. And, apparently, no IS decision maker cares. It is pathetic and so sad to watch

When I use Firebug on the "Information" headline I find footer .footer_section {
...
} should do the trick. I also see you have that already in your child theme styles.css. So just add some text formatting of your choice and you should be set. I can't remember exactly why (and if that was necessary for some reason) but I have used the following code to format that text: div.footer_section.span4 { ... } You are welcome to use your Firebug on my site. I got all sorts of css tweaks. And I am definitely no expert, I was just "firebugging" away...

If you use Firefox just get a plugin like Firebug. You click (right) on some object on a web site and get all the styles that apply including class names etc. It is a BIG help.

This is bad news, indeed My Wordfence plugin shows today a bunch of very precise google searches landing on my site. Guess half of the images never showed up because of this. What a pity! I guess search on symbiostock.info is working with a non-WP database then. Compound keywords don't seem to be a problem there. Well, it is so amazing watching Symbiostock evolving so fast that it is quite a surprise that patience is still asked often

Pilens, I was just looking at your site on my tablet, every time I click on a picture to view, it gets a red cross. If you have no right click enabled it does not play nicely with my tablet
Thanks for checking and telling. I run a "No Right Click Images Plugin". Did the red cross look like image attached? I've disabled this plugin for now. Could you please check with your tablet again?

Just checked. It shows the available size options correctly. I still run v2.4.8, though. However, it reminded me that my preview window is in desperate need of some css polishing.

I don't know. I still have trouble using the child theme for anything beyond CSS.
My understanding of changing php files within the child theme so far is following:
I need to copy the php file to be changed AND all dependent php files to the child theme. With dependent php files I mean all those that are subsequently called/included in the original php file and its dependent files. I checked this in one or two instances and ended up with a considerable chain of files. I think that doesn't really work because if any changes are done in those files by a theme update the child theme will miss/overrule those and I end up with a pile of work to do with every update as well.
All that being said I am sure there must be smarter ways to use the child theme for such tweaks. So I'd appreciate helpful tips
I see what you mean, sounds like a recipe for disaster, not a good idea to use the child theme for that then.
I thought about that problem before and was hesitant to try it out, now you've proven why.
you should only need to change the one php file that you're changing, but you would need to change it everytime -- or, you could use a hook from the theme and write a specific php function. I've looked at doing that but haven't tried it yet
While I have some programming experience php and WP is new to me. I am fine changing some text of function parameter, but I am lost on how to "use a hook from the theme and write a specific php function" when all I want to do is changing that text or function parameter (if possible more permanent, of course). I am sure Leo's Genetic Lab plugin is a good step towards a solution. But I still need time to master this somewhat steep learning curve. And a day has only 24 hours

Hmm,
I was one ask by a FAA group master not to send any (ugly) pics of dead/decaying animals to her group because she felt offended by them (although I thought the group's topic, something like "wilderness scences" or "found on the forest floor", I can't remember, seemed a good match to me).
How would I rate those images if this is all about nudity and adult content?
It depends. Are the dead animals wearing underwear?
No, beside mangled fur they are literally bloody naked

Yes, it is of concern for me. And I have tweaked the code successfully. However, with every new template update I have to do it again:
in Inc\Classes\network-manager\interpreter.php
replace <h2>No Results found. Try browsing the categories. Maybe you will find some hidden gems!</h2> with your message.
You'll see on my site that I've added a local link like <a href="#network_results">...</a> I added a <a id="network_results"></a> tag just before
<div id="network_site_<?php echo $site_count; ?>" class="network_results row-fluid"> to make that link work.
Leo's solution of a Genetics Lab plugin sounds interesting if it will allow tweaks such as this that even survive theme updates.
shouldn't you be able to place this in the child theme & not have it overwritten?
