Mac or PC?
I'm on a PC and I couldn't find anything on the add-on page about Mac. Perhaps someone else would know about the Mac capabilities?
Mac, PC and even Linux The mozilla platform rocks, I love it Thanks for the mention

Awesome Cheers I'm just wondering if anyone here is having problems uploading to shutterstock through the toolbar ftp stuff? I've seen mention on the russian boards that they are having trouble (but I don't speak russian so can't sign up there to find out more) I can't replicate any bugs here, and can't find anyone else who's having trouble with picNiche SS uploads, can anyone report if this is working or not for them please? Thanks Bob

Found the problem and fixed it (was an issue with how firefox handles drop-down preferences). Thanks for the info Smith Updated to 1.0.26 now available on AMO. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11474iStock polling 'might' still be problematic if you've never polled it before since they've added an ajax-based login script to their page, it should work, but i'm not 100% certain.

I was thinking about this the other day too, I think it's a good idea in theory (as evidenced by dreamstime), and had a few more agencies followed this model in 2003/2004 then it would be working well.
Sadly now it's probably too late for a new agency to really earn like this as people would buy the images there whilst they were cheap, but then increasingly leave to purchase at the traditional price-point once the price rose.
I think a more feasible approach now would be systems similar to cutcaster's (auto) price-model, where the demand/supply across topics causes the price to change appropriatly. But again, unless the dominant agencies all applied some kind of system, it would leave the new adopters at a disadvantage.

Personally I like to keep my passwords stored, but if you're using a shared computer or other people have access to your machine, you can just create a bookmark to: chrome://passwordmgr/content/passwordManager.xul Visit that whenever you want to remove your passwords... Then hit the "Remove All" button on the bottom left. There are a lot of these chrome:// urls in firefox, you can find out more here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Chrome_URLs

Heya WC. I added the ability to filter notifications by amount a few months ago, if you upgrade from: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11474You'll find an option in the picNiche preferences to set a minimum amount for notification There's also a bunch of other bugfixes and smaller features added over the last few versions. The toolbar is in the public nomination queue again (sadly it's a big addon and it's a massive queue) awaiting approval for automatic updates (it might get approved a little faster if everyone adds a review to that mozilla page), though in the meantime you should update your version manually from time to time Cheers, I hope that helps Bob

I did a load of these (around 200) when I first started but it was a total waste of time. They usually look pretty enough, but with such an ethereal connection to any concept they're very unlikely to sell. I think I had around 60-70 accepted, out of which I've probably had no more than 20 sales across all agencies in the last 18 months. Total waste of time imo.

Cool, good to see mixed results from others too At least we know the site is fine, just seems I've rolled the dice and come up with a 1 this month Cest la vie

Hey all This month so far I've had only 1 downloaded file on fotolia (on the 4th) which seems strange as according to the statistics section on the site I've had the roughly same no. of Views as all previous months (for an equivilent time-period) Usually sales for the same period is between 8-10 (FT is now officially my worst performing agency, even 123rf earn more) I'd guess it's the start of the summer slowdown and I've just caught one of those bad months, but I'm Just wondering if anyone else has seen a massive drop? Cheers Bob

I'm not sure what buyers would like, but from a technical perspective, I'd probably look into allowing a buyer to choose whatever size they like. Not only based on size-bands, but since I'm guessing you store the original, and produce the bought-size on purchase (otherwise you'd be wasting cash on AWS storage and transfer fees). So why not allow contribs to state the minimum size at which they'd like to sell their images, and a percentage-price for that size. Then allow buyers to specify they size they need at point of purchase. Example: I upload a 2000x3000 (6mp) image to CC, set $40 sale price and minimum size of 1000x1500 (1.5mp) at say 75% of $40 ($30). (Ofc this could/would be globally defaulted first site-wide, then profile-wide, not sure whether it'd be worth the effort to set per-image (maybe your auto-pricing thing could account for this too?)) Buyers can then buy my image at max res for 40$, at min-res for $30 OR at 1500x2250 (3.375mp) for $35. (or 1800x2700 or 1727xHmmSize or WhateverXwhatever -- basicially per-pixel-pricing) Either as a linear scale, or on a curve it offers maximum flexibility for everyone, and if resizing at PoP should save u server costs too as instead of storing resized version of image file, just resize-on-download. It's late here so that might sound a bit mental, but maybe Just an idea anyway Bob

I tried out the toolbar and it works pretty well. I still feel like I have more control with Yuir's tool, but I will have to play around with this a little more.
Aye, mine isn't built to override Yuris, just another way of achieving a similarly useful result One of the things I'm trying to get out of the keyword-set however is a potential commercial value for that set to aid in keyword optimisation. (That's something I'm working on for picNiche) I'll talk more about that elsewhere rather than hijacking Yuri's thread to go on about picNiche

Ahhh, these are retrieved from the 'suggestions' list on picNiche.com and not from the toolbar keywording tool? This is raw (un-processed) data, which is why the picNiche web functionality isn't really a keywording tool as it's mainly for research (though in theory a more descriptive phrase, and thus a higher rated niche produces a better list of potential keywords). The toolbar keywording functionality is not only a more accurate list of associative data, but also allows refinement of the query across multiple terms. I'll blog about this in detail as soon as I have the time Thanks for the feedback

I'm using PicNiche too... Every time the numbers go up I'm doing a little "Happy happy joy joy" dance...
The only thing that I would like is to be able to program the stock sites that aren't the Big 6...
you know, featurepic, yaymicro... etc.
Hey Karen Will be adding more sites in future, though only when I can figure out a way to add them all so everyone can choose

I think a couple of ads on the page wouldn't hurt. It would help pay for itself and any improvements.
I used picniche keywording tool the other day and threw everything out but 2. I keep more of the keywords when I use Yuri's. It is more accurate.
I agree, the picniche tool needs a little work. The Yuri tool takes a little more time but yields better results.
Hey Karen & Travis Just wondering if you could elaborate a little for me please on the picNiche keywording? Were there not enough keywords, or were they inaccurate? Did refining the query help or hinder your desired results? Was it something else, UI, ordering, etc? Any feedback is hugely appreciated It's really slow (as my server is pretty awful for now but working on that too Thanks ** Not sure where to put this response as it probably shouldn't be in this thread :/ if you feel it should be somewhere else Leaf please move it Thanks

picniche won't be affected because it just uses the stats page AFTER you normally login. So it'll work, you'll login on SS and you know the session is valid for many hours and therefore you can get the stats through this plugin. It's like refreshing the page yourself. As for Lookstat, it does sound like bad news indeed.
I can't open SS earnings page when I click on PicNiche earnings button. Seems like it is showing earnings, but I can't open the page...is it because of security code, or it's something else?
Yes it's because of the new login system with captcha. They changed the page elements and therefore the function com.picNiche.toolBar.picNicheShutterstockLogin needs to be rewritten. By the author, of course
Heyhey, yes this was fixed in an update on the day. Only just saw this post doing a google-trip Anyone who's not updated yet can get the latest version here: http://tinyurl.com/microstocktools I think this is a good move by shutterstock, hopefully they are able to cooperate with the likes of Lookstat.
If l was Shutterstock, I'd charge an appropriate fee to bypass this 'security' feature. It would have been prudent for these statistics/uploading companies to approach the agencies before they started developing, but I doubt that happened. Somebody from these places should have appeared here by now, if only to say 'It's not a problem for us' or 'We're working on it' ... another bad move on their part.
I tried before launch and since to get all the major agencies to talk to me so we could work together, sadly, both before and since I've heard little-to-nothing in return :/ Although the SS changes aren't a major hindrance to the picNiche toolbars operation (It'll now just open the login page if an active session is not found), there are some other issues on upcoming developments I'd very much like to work together with the agencies on. Here's hoping one day one of them will take the time to call me back Sadly working from a back-bedroom in the UK doesn't lend me a whole lot of credibility in the eyes of the agencies Still trying though Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions guys Not sure I'll be able to do these for a while, but I'll keep them on the list - option to activate / deactivate one click erase of notification list - keep the notifications list content per day, reset it the next day not every time you start the browser. Maybe even make somewhere a label with the total on all sites for that day, in $ and maybe in download number.
As far as I'm concerned, all advanced Earnings stats are Lookstat's domain, Rahul does this stuff a lot better than my toolbar format can, although thankfully there's the possibility of linking out to those in future For the clear-all of notifications list, I'll add this in a future update Perhaps you could have the little image icons for the sites instead of the FT SS IS etc. I think the images plus amounts would increase readability. It gets hard to read quickly when you see IS 124 SS 230 BS 55 etc... or here compare the two
This one comes down a minor legal issue, as each agency has rights on it's own logo, I cannot currently include them in my own software or hotlink to them without agreement from each agency. And as I'm trying to go with an all-included approach, there are still some bits to be worked out Is definitely on my list tho soon as all the agencies are ready to talk Cheers, keep 'em coming please Bob

... Bob, thanks for sharing this information with us! That's the beauty of open source, being able to trust sensitive pieces of code. Could you provide us with the link to these files? I'm not sure where to look for the file you mentioned. Is this part of Mozilla source code tree or part of your add-on? THanks!
It's in the addon (All mozilla addons are distributed as a zip file containing the .js Javascript and XUL files which make up the functionality. Simply download the addon from Mozilla site, unzip as though it were a zip file and peruse to your hearts content There are lots of tutorials to understand how it's all constructed inside but it's pretty straightforward just to dig around.

Hey Guys Glad you like the tool. The agency passwords are stored securely in the firefox system and are never used or sent anywhere other than to login to the corresponding agency website (or ftp). The source-code is readable by anyone knowledgeable in javascript (as the firefox platform has an open-codebase) so anyone can review the code (secureaccess.js is relevant file). Although my toolbars have not completed the full peer-review yet (though hopefully soon) they would be quickly removed if any of the Mozilla developers were informed, and subsequently confirmed that the secure password system was being abused in any way. Hey Chris Imo iStock is a total pain in the butt. Their image quality requirements are very high, their approval and review processes are intense, and their submission process is slow. Having said that... Yes it's worth it. I have only 50 images on iStock, and they make the same income as the 1000+ images I have on another agency. Sadly the 15 images a week limit and the very high rejection rate keep me from really taking advantage of it, but if your work is good, it's a must-do
