General Stock Discussion / Re: November Sales
« on: November 27, 2018, 06:51 »
Whether people like it or not, the market is starting to consolidate. It's similar to social networks and search engines of yesteryear trying to compete with each other.

Everyone wants a piece of the pie until 2-3 giants take over the industry. And I believe the 2 giants of the microstock industry will be Shutterstock and Adobe Stock.

Adobe Stock because of its integration with its software and cloud products. Shutterstock because of their resources and business reach. I just don't see iStock or 123RF being able to challenge them in the next 10 years.

There's more competition among contributors than ever on SS and AS and it's not going to get any easier. Some contributors will do well, but most won't. There is no choice but to step up and compete against the best contributors of Microstock if you want success in this industry.

Good post and what we might see sooner then 10 years.

+ No more views next to files. That was helpful...  >:(

Helpful for what? I know I don't get paid for a view and I can't see how someone looking but not buying is helpful. What can I learn from views. I understand I'd like to see what people are looking at, but if mine doesn't get the sale, I don't know much about why.

Another predictably crap, capped, controlled  $0.72 day at SS

How much do you expect to make from snapshots of old junk, lemurs, walls, alleys, doors and going for a walk with a camera. You need to take pictures of subjects that buyers will buy. You take nice pictures, but they aren't something that will get many downloads. That's the cap

Do your subjects look anything like these best sellers? https://contributor.stock.adobe.com/en/insights/best/contributors

Here we go again. Because my images sold MUCH BETTER (around $200 a month of which was ok for the subject matter I took) than they do now. Granted I dont shoot higly commercial stuff with models (not my thing as I find it more interesting to happen upon images by walking about) but You would be surprised what has actually sold for me. And my images are not limited to "old junk, lemurs, walls, alleys, doors" (which actually have sold well) There is a market for ANY photo taken well enough.

I apologize, I believed what you have wrote here in the past.

Still absolutely dire. Really really awful sales. I am on target to earn the lowest amount in nearly 2 years. I have pretty much written Istock off as they have basically destroyed most of what was good about them.
The only thing that has died are my sales which are now even worse. Why did I listen to all the SS evangelists here !  ???
I have waited a year to give my thoughts on SS and leaving IS exclusivity. I would say for me it hasn't been worth it. I have lost around $100 a month. I make around a dollar a day at SS and many rejections so my full portfolio (including ONES THAT SELL at IS) are not included.

Even with IS having a terrible year it would have been better to stick with them but I suppose you have to take risks. My thoughts on SS are very very disappointing to say the least. This month one of the worst. Others will probably probably disagree.

A dollar a day isn't $200 a month.

SS is now abysmal for sales. Why it is the top rated here I do not know. IS earning me much more now.

Its crap. In my image manager if I choose to display my images in order of sales it still gives me my most recent. Useless garbage of a system.

Where do I find order of sales in image manager on shutterstock. I can't find page for sales image manager.

Hergs not going to answer because image manager doesn't exist. There is catalog manager by old, new or most popular. You can find tops performers page and with a little common sense and use brain, know whats best in order of sales or worst.

Adobe Stock / Re: My biggest sale!
« on: November 14, 2018, 08:39 »
I had 3 of those in the last 2 days, and even though it says that I have over 300 dollars total earnings the payout button is heated out and it says that I need to have at 50 dollars to ask to be paid. So, I'm guessing it's done kind of a glitch.

I had three of these $94.05 sales on Wednesday and wrote to support as I couldn't imagine a "subscription" sale with that royalty and wanted to check. It wasn't a glitch - it's Enterprise customers, like the high value SODs at Shutterstock.

Wednesday was a good day :)

Nice to see for all getting these.

Good luck to all who make their own work selling sites.

Welcome, congrats on the first sale, everything micro is what you make of it including good attitude.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock Search Algorithm
« on: November 07, 2018, 13:35 »
Hi,

Shutterstock definitely has a search algorithm where they control a contributors earnings.

Can anyone tell if it is based on the number of sales?

I am thinking of deleting all my photos and just having videos with which I earn more.

Maybe the photos should be in a different account.

Any thoughts?

Do you mean that Shutterstock tries to decide how many money we can earn in a month?

if you mean that, this could be possible, I notice something similar about minimum earnings I have every month on the picture sales.
This could be fair for everyone, to give to each contributor its piece of cake, depending on his commitment.

everyone can tell if their earnings have a linear trend with a "minimum guarantee" or it's totally random ?

How do they set the minimum? Derek says it's one number, somebody else another, some higher some lower, not by number of pictures. If that's random it should change not be capped or the same. Or maybe we earn by the quality of our work and there is no cap.

anyway only the FIRST PAGE results of "popular" will sell
so the quality is always the best option to follow.

There is no "popular" anymore, but you're right first pages of search and quality sell best.

Voter suppression continues, I see.  >:(

You believe the lies
So you say that e.g. this isn't true:
https://tinyurl.com/yafwaofh

You mean people with no address or ID should be able to vote? How do you register to vote where you are? No ID and no address required. The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed a lower court ruling that essentially protects the address requirement.

The GA law, Under HB 268, voters could still cast a ballot in an election as long as they registered in time within the 26-month period, even if they were flagged by the system. They would need to provide identification information to correct the discrepancy at the polls before voting, or they could cast a provisional ballot and provide the information to election officials afterward. If the registration information doesn't match they can correct at the polls. Registration information needs to match drivers license, state ID card or Social Security records. That's called unfair or targeting, asking that the persons ID matches the voter registration?

Good news, the democrats win seats will mean Trump is done. He's the reason why so many people got out to vote against him, his rants and his lies. If the republicans have any hope for 2020 Trump won't be on the ballot. A win for all America.

Utter utter shite. November statarted as abysmal as ever. The whole site has become a compromised bin. Depressing.

at least you are consistant, Feb. 2012

I have given up on SS and going to concentrate on my main earner which is IS (and that's still low). SS might be great for most people here but for me it has proved no returns on the time invested. I can't see it being any different from what it is now in the future. For me SS is the "Emperor's New Clothes" of microstock. With 1 or 2 sales a day of around 25 cents I can't understand how this can be sustainable.

Great post Mike!...I have even had agencies offering to buy the whole portfolio, only a few months back some clown obviously from some agency!...its all BS from the beginning to the end!

I tell you people and on this point i do agree with people like Laurin etc, etc. This business will just go further and further down the toilet until we start boycotting certain agencies who are the ultimate destroyers of this business!
You could make a start by pulling your port from Shutterstock.

Dreamstime and Deposit also.

GLStock / Re: GLStock does not pay ?
« on: October 30, 2018, 08:52 »
The concept of GL was actually brilliant! but leftovers aimed towards advertising and designers they chose micro which was totally wrong. They should have gone the RM/RF way instead!
I know these guys very well and theyre a clever bunch but unfortunately when they started micro was already on a decline!
Not actually that clever then if they made a fundamental business mistake  ???

Nope! they are not your run of the mill owners, I know them personally and they have tons of knowledge in the ad-world, art-direction etc, etc....its like the guys of Stockxpert, one of the best agencies ever in its time then bought by Isock and it went to crap!....then these guys opened up stockfresh or something and it just never got off the ground.

Paws!!  hehe! you dont know EVERYTHING you see, you have to know the actual people in question!! ;)

Knowing somebody doesn't make you smarter or more right about their business.

217
123RF really shouldn't be a concern about review times or anything for that matter-- they screwed us over by demoting many of us several months ago! I was a level 4 and now a level 2 based on their pure BullSH$% of how they can better serve us with our pay cuts!  >:(

I don't know why anybody who reads here would sign up for 123rf

"Due to a technical issue there has been a delay in September 2018 royalty statements being posted to your account this month. We do apologize for the delay, and appreciate your patience while we rectify the situation."

A month or more delay isn't enough time for them to figure out sales.

I have asked them a bunch of times and they say No. holding On and getting interest I assume. Was a great site. so was BS till SS bought it/So was stock expert and 123. oh well.

Corporations can't invest debt and get interest. Ask somebody who knows, because you sure don't.

Alamy.com / Re: Caution: Don't Question Alamy
« on: October 29, 2018, 09:52 »
I'm not sure how much the QC rank counts for anything, but maybe someone knows better.
A lot of things on Alamy don't actually count for anything, e.g. 'discoverability' (causes more harm than good).
What do you mean by that ..?
Artificially inflating keywords leads to spamming and irrelevant searches.
Isn't it so on all sites ..?

Of course, but no other site actually encourages it with a silly 'turn the bar green' system.
Anyway, just because other sites do it doesn't mean you'd want your site to do it, does it?
I'm sure the site which sorts out search properly will prevail. Sadly, the desire of a proportion of contributors to want to spam will make that difficult to achieve.

I'm not sure that discoverability helps and might probably hurt. I'm positive that spammed keywords don't help like they did before, on all the other sites. Some site will have a Google type search or eBay, where you can mark not or -words. iStock does but their search is trash because of CV you can't use relevant words outside the limit.

Let me guess that Adobe will be improving the search before anyplace else. Seems to be the only site that cares and develops for the future of artists and users.

Alamy.com / Re: Sale not reported (yet)
« on: October 18, 2018, 09:03 »
I e-mailed them this morning and after a few hours I got this reposnse:

Ive checked and we do have a relevant download for this user by one of our distributors. Distributors take longer to report usage than direct sales as there are more people involved in the process (us, them and their customer). However, in this case I have forward this over to our distribution team for an update on when this usage will be billed.

It's probably just 5$ gross sale, but still...

But still it's the principle you are right, they are responsible for all use and payments.

General Stock Discussion / Re: shutterstock earnings question
« on: October 17, 2018, 10:45 »
So... thinking of uploading to shutterstock...

Then took a look at a few numbers, did some math, and then noticed a few posts talking about 'spammy' portfolios (i.e., 1000 pictures of a pair of shoes, from 0-360 degrees in 0.3 degree increments, etc)...

If my math is correct, it seems on 'average' right now you'd need to have a portfolio size of about 10,000 images to 'make' about $600/year? Does that sound right? (Of course, I realize there would be outliers on both sides), but that seems to the case?

Any agreements/disagreements?

No.

I have less than 10,000 and even if I took a below average daily stats I would be well over that....in a month. Today, for example, I currently have $211.68. A mix of large clip packs, Enhanced, ODDs and SODs plus Subs.

I'd put good money on my earnings being no where near the top and certainly not an outlier.

Sure its possible! a couple of years back every single month was between 2500-3000 a month, easily! no problems at all. Something happened about a year back and that was it! and for some of us that became a doomsday and today I just let my port hang in there, dont upload anymore and since new images dont even see the light of day its no point!
Adobe/Ft have come on strong and fill the loss pretty well and so has Pond-5!  so in the end of day the loss at SS is made up!

You need to upload more gears and bearings 922 mighty not be enough.

Oh Yadi Yadi!!  I will although the big bucks comes from some 900 oil and gas industrial workers and plants!!  thats where I got one of the biggest sales during 1917 through SPL, 11.000 bucks Thank you Sir! and for a single AD-picture, beat that sonny if you can!!

Good luck, good sale

What microstock site is SPL? Don't the buyers feel bad when they could get the same photo from istock Dreamstime Shutter for $10?

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS worst Spammed Portfolios
« on: October 17, 2018, 10:40 »
I'd love to know what return they get from those inflated portfolios.
Yes or any kind of explanation of how it makes any possible business sense.

I think they think download per number of pictures. I bet they make very little because they have 1 photo hundreds of times, how many get needed. That makes SS look dumb for accepting. Not as bad as others but 100 of most the same. https://www.shutterstock.com/g/NataliiaKrasnenko?searchterm=store%20shelf

When does something people have been complaining about for years become "normal"?

When they see that sales are not the same all the days months and overall many incomes have been down for 5 years. No more growing like it was that's normal.
