How to Color correct video using Lumetri Color and Scopes in Premiere Pro or After Effects
https://youtu.be/Q6rt5Y54KUg

Yea the GoPro that I was using was quite an old model. I believe that later GoPro models have some degree of control over exposure but I don't know how much.

I do know that many people mount cheap action cameras and GoPro clones to their quadcopters for budget based aerial videography and unfortunately, just about all of those cameras rely on auto exposure.
In my opinion the GOPro is a very specialised camera: it does well one thing: action camera.
I was never fond of drone footage shot with a GoPro

Thank you,
I didn't know that the GoPro is auto only.
I agree that shooting in auto causes a lot of problems
Auto exposure and auto white balance has ruined a lot of what otherwise would have been great footage. It doesn't work so it's best to learn manual techniques.

Then you're not using the GoPro where a GoPro is supposed to be used. Good luck being in manual when you film that POV jumping off a cliff into dark water. ;)

Different type of camera and mode of filming for different situations.

That being said, for drones, manual is generally the best, yes. But not always.
I suppose you are referring to using auto mode when tilting the camera up from the ground to the sky area to reveal.
In this case I agree that auto exposure can be a good choice.
But auto WB never ever!

Yes Peter,
I perfectly agree.
Auto exposure and, even more, auto WB are a recipe for disaster

My footage has approved on adobe and pond 5 but not on shutterstock!?
It happens very often, SS have some really bad reviewers.
Simply reupload it, it will probably be accepted

General Stock Discussion / Re: is it worth it to buy drone?

It also depends on where you are:
Here in old Europe there are very few places where you can legally fly and the regulations changes in each individual country. A big mess!

212
First of all reviewers make mistakes all the time, so you can resubmit it and very often the second time it is accepted.
If it is not accepted the second time, then maybe there is something wrong.
From what you say the video setting for resolution in your drone are not the same as your encoding settings in Premiere.
Make sure you are using the same settings, for example 4k DCI, or HD

General Stock Discussion / Re: video splicer suggestions

As for post processing/color grading/etc - I aim for taking the shot/video correctly the first time, so I don't have to re-do things over again. So, very rarely do I have to do any post processing.

If you take a look at the bestsellers at any stock agency, you will find that 90-100% of the clips are quite heavily graded with a cinematic look.

Unless you have in-camera LUTs, a magical cinematic sensor, and/or a nice combination of 2-3 filters on your lenses, I doubt you can get a graded shot in camera.  ;)
I totally agree: good grading is one of the most important factor in a best seller clip.
Unless maybe for some editorial/news content

Thank you very much Alex! Truly appreciated. Ill share it widely.

Thanks! I trust March will be better and not only for the extra few days, but also for some clip sales! :D
Really good stuff Alex!
Your blog has improved a lot and it looks very professional know.
Plenty of interesting stuff, thank you for sharing!

London, life on the fast lane - Drone footage and 4k time lapses with Nikon D850

Some great work there. Ive never been to London but looks like it has a nice, vibrant atmosphere. And I admire the individuals who have the patience to do hyperlapse. Ive tried that myself and it drove me mad.
Thank you,
I am sure you will like London a lot.
Yes, hyperlapses are a lot of work, and you need a super fast computer for post processing

Darn nice, so much I could learn from paying attention to what you do.  :)
Many thanks,
I appreciate!

And also remember that there is also such a thing as "photographing for fun", or for other purposes than stock, like YouTube.  ;)

I have been guilty of forgetting this myself, and I've caught myself getting annoyed by signs and people when I'm out photographing... It can truly ruin the experience and you forget what photography is all about - having fun and creating art.

But of course, I also know how much time it takes to blur faces and signs when I make clips for stock... Haha.

Anyway, great stuff! Are all of the standard film clips also shot with the D850? I guess they are, and it seems they look great in low light.
You are 100% right about the fun factor.
I had not shot still image for a very long time, but very recently I have been doing a bit of photo again. I had forgot how much fun it is, and the post processing is so easy compared to video!
Yes, it is all done with the NIkon D850

Beautifully done! It made me think of all the time spent - particularly in difficult/busy areas of London. But also, from my POV, how much of the footage I could submit as Free Rights and not Editorial.....the fireworks obviously but any of the TL street footage? Lots of recognizable logos/faces. Thanks for sharing and merry, belated Christmas! ;D

I'd love to do the same thing in the place where I live: Santa Fe, New Mexico.

But I also worry how much one can actually show of the town and its residents/tourists without running afoul of permissions issues. No way to get "model" releases for dozens of people in the street, not to mention all the buildings and shops.

Is Editorial the only way to go?
Thanks,
Santa Fe is a fantastic place, plenty of atmosphere. I look forward to watch it.
It would be best if possible to shoot very early in the morning, near sunrise, to avoid crowd, and try to remove logos.
Otherwise it is mostly for editorial use

Many thanks,
You are right: most of the individual clips in this video can only be sold as editorial.
I don't do a lot of editorial, but I make some exceptions in situations like Christmas or Notting Hill carnival

Thank you,
I am glad you liked it!

I liked it, as I like almost all your posted videos! :)

I guess the point that most intrigued me was how you incorporated still photos w/ scan & pan into the video.  I'm guessing that most people who are not videographers themselves would have even noticed it.  I am about to leave on a 3-month 6-country trip, and will probably use that idea in some of my videos.
Many thanks.
I only had four days in Oxford and the weather was bad, so I ended up with not enough timelapses for my project.
I decided to add some animated photos and I quite like the result
