hi,
i have a series of images from last summer where the subject (a sculpture) is against a blue sky. All these images have a very complex form of chromatic aberration which i cant clear with LR2, LR3 Beta, PS Raw Converter. Whenever the aberration on one place of the image is cleared it creates one at another place. I also tried some other techniques i read about on the internet. one thing i tried was replacing the color which is very problematic because the same cyan is in the sky. Another technique was to reduce the channel with the strongest aberration (the blue one) for about 99,93% which helps on one side but creates distortions on the other side.
I dont know how to deal with this but i really need to save this images.
does someone have a working technique or a software that can deal with that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
regards, alex
Hi, You can try working with different layers extracted from the raw file. A bit more work but gives IMO the best results. Open file in ACR and correct for first CA, import in photoshop. Open file again in ACR and correct for second CA, import in photoshop. Repeat this if needed .. etc.. Put all files in photoshop in one file... different layers and apply selective erase with a soft brush. Patrick H.

There are some flatscreen monitors around that have a TV interface and they are called hybrids. I think they have the quality of a PC monitor. I stumbled upon the P2370HD LCD end last year, but I don't know if it's good enough for Photoshop.
Most of the HD television screens have a PVA panel, unlike the the samsung syncMaster P 2370 who has a TN panel... to be honest the P 2370 is actually not a TV screen, it's a computer monitor with build in TV tuner. Both Samsung an LG made a lot of those computer screens, mainly for children rooms... two appliances for the price of one...:-) Want a computer monitor with PVA panel, the Samsung SyncMaster F 2380 is a fairly good choice for little money but don't expect the same quality and performance you will find in the higher priced segment. http://www.loveno.be/product/17854/Samsung-SyncMaster-F2380-23-inch-wide-TFT-8ms-DVI-Black-.htmlReview : http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/monitors/display/samsung-sm-f2080-f2380_6.htmlPatrick.

Ignore all comments... Have a look at your images at 100 % magnification... First one : noise, especially visible in raod... despite using/shooting at iso 100.. must be post processing.. trying to saturate colors more... no can do.... Second one : The trees... iso 400.. noisy... and over exposed... Third one : iso 400 .. clear noise visible over horizon.... My tip.. use a tripod and never go higher than camera native iso... euhm.. the lowest. Every site that is presented with these images.. most probably having enough of them... will most surely find a reason to reject them... whatever reason they give..... In other words... start shooting more interesting in demand subjects. Patrick H.

yeah i tried that, there is nothing but 1920x1080 and then by far lower ones. there is a sharpening menu, but even reducing it to zero makes it still look strangely bad. i can set the screen to wide, 16:9, 4:3 and "just scan", but all options except wide just use a small portion of the monitor.
what about using an HDMI to DVI adaptor?
simone
Those excist.. but i have no experience with them. http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10419Patrick.

Hi,
Try adjusting your screen resolution in windows screen properties. Set sharpening in monitor menu to zero, set sharpening on video card to zero.

I recently purchased the Huey-Pro calibration tool and must admit it gives much better results then the Colorvision spyder 2 pro. I'm working with a HP LP2475w (S-IPS panel) monitor.
Like Lisa mentioned before on for the Huey, smooth color gradients and more accurate colors where the Colorvision would saturate the colors more.
For comparison and review on both devices :

And for the monitor :

Regards,
Patrick H.
Is that when you use it with the Spyder software? I am using it with ColorEyes Display Pro, is it the same problem?
Like i said, i use the Huey pro hardware with its own software and it does a better job than the Spyder 2 pro. Patrick.

i am confused here too. there is ASSIGNMENT... the monthly contest.
and then there is "Assignment", some photographer from USA, who i have been informed that is actually someone with inside connections to DT, perharps another CEO of DT like Achilles, or a reviewer, or a shareholder... who gets priority in the exposure for DT.
this is truly confusing to me. when i read Assignment has just commented on your photograph. which Assignment is this?
but more importantly, is it true that "Assignment" the photographer gets favourite treatment by DT in the keyword search, etc.? if so, this sounds a bit skewed for the rest of us common earthlings. are the gods in DT really playing dice with us too, like many indies accuse IS of doing with their exclusives vs indies.
sorry if this is a can of worms, but if i can't ask anyone here, who can i ask ?

Yes, I would say it is illegal. This thing is handled by FT so poorly that I can't believe business can be run this way. By this time they should have clear answer to if they are really withholding taxes on all sales and if so if it is by mistake or if it is intentional and why and what will be done in case it is by mistake.
However so far there are just uninformed replies from moderators on FT forum (not knowing anything more than normal user). Online business like this has to have 24/7 support being able to trouble shoot such critical issues like this. Or do they think this is something less than critical for people relaying on the income?
Exactly. Not only that but if you live in a 'treaty country' then they should only be withholding a reduced amount anyway __ 10% for contributors in the UK for example.
Are Fotolia actually trying to make us all go exclusive with Istock? They certainly appear to be acting as IS's Chief Recruiting Sergeant.
They need to get their act together very quickly on this issue or they'll be a mass exodus of contributors within a few months when the lock-ins at other agencies have expired __ me included.
It should be 0% for contributors in the UK. I filled in the form without the ITIN number and I don't think they have withheld any tax yet but perhaps I haven't sold anything in the US.
Edit, I just looked again and I am earning less now for a large file than I was last month. This is so annoying, I can't see if something is sold in the US or how much tax has been withheld.
Belgium is 0% ... but they deducted 30 % on my american sales. Patrick.

A few years ago I performed a simple test with a Nikon D 200 body, the Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8 and the Sigma EX 50 mm f/2.8... non controled circomstances, just a basic set up of a plant in daylight setting. Both lenses used on f/5.6, same camera settings all set to neutral, used tripod, both shot in raw. Clearly the Sigma EX lens performed much better than the Nikkor.... better contrast, better sharpness, colors about the same. (a well known photographer also member on this forum was present during that simple test), it was around Xmas when we both purchased the Nikon D 200... So in a way the OP has it right with the statement that good lenses contribute to the end result. However, IMO it's the combo of camera/lens/photographer/model/composition that gives the end result. Using a tripod tilts the image crispness/sharpness to a higher level, something a lot of photogs seem to forget. Get the best equipment and start shooting handheld will most probably result in lesser appealing results and the need to sharpen images in post processing. I'm always using a tripod for outside shots, a monopod for studio shots with models or tripod for still life. Just my two cents. Patrick H.

this thread keeps coming to the top and I keep thinking we are all getting a raise.!!
Did SS say or was there ever a concrete reason to believe there would be a raise for everyone in 2009 ?
-Mark
There has been a raise every year in the spring, ... maybe since they started, I'm not sure. Last year was the first year without a raise.
Correct. Patrick H.

is it just my impression, or is Dreamstime taking a big nose dive lately for most of the contributors? I hear / read a lot of complains.
DT Minus 29 % compared to october, other sites performed well, my end results in november being 8 % higher than october. Patrick H.

Thanks so much for the positive responses. You all nailed the agency, of course.
I guess I just don't see the problem with having the release. I'm over it and have resubmitted the way they want it . . . but on a common sense level it is just silly. Cover yourself with the release and be protected. Simple as that.
The search engine issue is a strange one. I'm not quite sure how that connects to the model release problem, but oh well.
I do enjoy the agency - it's a vibrant community and I like the website logistics. This is just one of those bizarre twists that are around every corner in the Microstock world, I'm discovering.
Don't hold your breath.... I got an image rejected for having a model release... reuploaded, no model release attachted... again rejected for not having a model release. Patrick H.

Leaf,
Would it be possible to create a specific tread were we are kept on date on announcements concerning the Fotolia tax thingie.?. I ask because I and undoubtedly other members are banned from their forums and are kept in the dark concerning announcements.
Patrick H.
Isn't that what this thread is doing? Or how would you like it different?
The announcements so i can read them. Patrick H.

just a follow up here. The images turned up today so all is well. Some of the keywords weren't retrieved though which is strange. About 3 images out of 50 were missing their keywords.
I ftp my files during night to all site i submit to. In the morning i find them waiting (with some exceptions where there are problems). Occasionally i also have the iptc/exif info missing on some fotolia files. (once or twice a month) Patrick H.

To the best of my knowledge they can be used to connect images as a series...
http://us.fotolia.com/id/9262165 ... toward bottom of page. And I think it helps search engines too.
I'd like to make full use of Fotolia. If anyone has some insights or anything, let me know. I think I've barely tapped it... my rank so far is
Overall rank 604 7 days rank 355
... I have no idea what these numbers mean, but they are better than a year ago I think.
I had a look at the folder creation.. made one.. and i can not find how to add images to that folder... ahum.... Any help.?.
Patrick H.
on your images page, you check the check boxes beside the images you want to add, then at the bottom you can select the lightbox. It doesn't look like anything happens, but they get added.
Thanks.. found it.. Patrick.

Dead completely since photo.com has been disconnected.
StockXpert has always been dead for me... with and without photos.com and JUI... I'm one of those photogs that have zero views on all new images for weeks. Patrick H.
