I wonder if the OP who wrote this post actually bought a camera? Or, since it was his/her one and only post, went the more sensible route of failed photographers and started an agency or photography school?
However, if we're keeping this thread current for interested visitors, I'd recommend a used entry level canon 1000d and the the fantastic plastic 50mm 1.8 which if used within their limitations still provide plenty of scope for learning the craft on a budget and the opportunity of making some real folding money at the same time.

We have an expression in dear old Britain that sums up my pathetic PP earnings for August compared to the bounty of previous months: "After the Lord Mayor's show comes the sh*t cart"

The lines of geeks outside Apple stores in their Minecraft and Star Wars tee shirts who will die on the spot if they fail to get their hands on the thing right now, this very minute, always make for a good editorial photo op.

On balance, I experience two good months in a quarter at DT and one that rubs my nose in it. September is looking like that month even at this early stage. Rotters.

Anyone here who is self-employed must realize you cannot rely/depend/hope/expect the people you do business with to look after your own interests....and if they fail in that you sell to someone else or you find something else to sell.
I appreciate that may seem too simplistic and unpalatable for many contributors - but this has been a cold hard truth in microstock for years. If you haven't experienced that elsewhere in business then I can understand the degree of umbrage expressed here - but for many I suspect the energy and time wasted trying to bring SS or any other agency into line with their own expectations is more profitably deployed elsewhere.

I agree 100% but real time reporting from IS is unlikely when they can't even improve site performance - currently slower than a tortoise on Nembutal.
I just thought it appropriate to give one of our more inept pupils a bit of encouragement in the hope it would spur them on to greater achievements.

How it should be. Like clockwork, month on month. Fair play to them for starting early(ish) two months in a row. Keep it up.

I've had a handful of debatable rejections of late - although it seems to be back to normal now. In my early learning period I would often be fried and served up with chips on the weekends by reviewers - so to this day, I avoid uploading on a Friday.
No idea if this is still the case but old habits die hard. Honestly, I don't think it matters much but I expect some nut somewhere has statistics and charts to prove me wrong.

I'm quite clever but as usual with IStock's communications I'll probably have to read it three times to understand it fully. They sound quite pleased with themselves though - and no doubt pranced out of the launch meeting convinced these measures will propel them into a glorious future. Always a bad sign.
Happy to be independent and on 10 megapixels.

Broken again. Working again. Broken again. Working again. Broken again. Working again.

Whilst I detest what the NT are doing, if you can't find a million and one other things in England to photograph besides bits of coastline, stately homes and castles you're in the wrong business.

Probably because it takes three hours and ten cups of tea to assemble anything you buy from them and when you have finished you realize you've gone and bought a load of overpriced crap.

I agree with Dook since I neither use or understand the need for about 50% of the functionality on modern cameras, especially crap like scene modes and creative filters.
If I must, I would like a more capable but still very small inbuilt flash which would also be detachable and wi-fi enabled.

Why is Goofy greyed out? Is he not allowed to make any more posts?
He regenerated into a member called Dr Who - don't know why

If September works out then it could be a best quarter ever - but DT usually tosses my portfolio onto the "ignore" pile one month out of three.
It even happens on a daily basis e.g. yesterday a big fat zero day followed up this morning with a 26 credit TIFF sale that had me choking on my cornflakes.

I must be properly dull and unimaginative since I struggle to get beyond 30 keywords never mind 50.
Anyway, I recall someone at SS asking for help with key wording and one of the keyword maniacs from the forum picked out the OP's image of a deer as an example and promptly produced a ream of additional words including tail, ear and furry! I think they forgot to add hoof and dung pile. Ridiculous.

I uploaded about 500 images four years ago just to see what might happen and made enough lolly to buy a pair of cheap socks. Closed and long forgotten.

VAT threshold is 75k
You need to hang on to your expenses receipts for six years btw
Yes, you should register as a sole trader - even if you end up not having to pay any tax once earnings minus legitimate expenses is calculated. Best be on the safe side - from personal experience I know Her Majesty's Customs are ruthless and unforgiving.

RC count has been frozen for 6-8 weeks for me - but the whole thing is academic since I'm 6,000 away from the next level with the year more than half over - it might as well be 60,000

1. No more "networking" myself to people I can't stand to be within fifty feet of 2. No more cramming onto trains and planes with people lugging laptops and starbucks and evian 3. Not having to pretend I give a sh*t when some suit is banging on about their latest business growth strategy he/she actually copied off some oily shyster on the interweb 4. Not having to shave every day 5. Largely being able to do what I want when I want provided its okay with my cat and the missus
