I've noticed big clumps of similars in the search results lately.  Wish they would mix things up more.

I dont contribute to VB so I must be missing something here. 100% commission? How do they make money?

Unless they charge a membership fee, get advertising revenue, or make money somewhere else, this had to have been a temporary deal to grow their collection.

They do charge buyers a membership fee...

After they steal your product... they would like your payment and financial information... perhaps a copy of your id would be helpful too.

Given the changes - they should give us the ability to set our own prices.  It is a "marketplace" after all.  I am not comfortable undercutting my pricing at other agencies.

Why do some posts only contain a full-stop (period) and nothing else?

Because you can't delete a post.  Only change it.

Making my own website and Promoting my quality  works on Social Media?
What do you think of this? Would it be worth and give great money? I have 22k followers on instagram and I know how to get hundreds of organic reach in Facebook from different countries. Let say 500 different organic reach on Facebook daily.

What do you think? Have anyone here sold photos and videos from their own site?

THANKS A LOT IN ADVANCE

Kind wondering if there is any direct financial benefit to having 22,000 Instagram followers?  Or is all a give away.  Have you reversed image searched your most popular images to see where they are being used or streamed?  You might find some are being re-sold by others.

I think self promotion is important if your a print on demand - Fine Art America type.  For microstock licensing.. not so much.

I tweet some of my stock accounts. Not really sure it helps but maybe folks open up my sites and I get more views. Views may or may not help in placement of photos in sites. The price to tweet is free so why not.

I think a poor view to sales ratio may hurt your search placement at some sites.  They really don't care about views.  Just paying customers.

If you find music on the radio or internet you automatically think "it's copyrighted".  Why would anyone think photos are any different.  The mind set needs to be everything is copyrighted by someone somewhere.  Even creative commons has a (foolish) copyright holder... who may demand attribute if nothing else.

I went with luster paper.  I like metallic but it seems to present best with gallery style lighting.  Casual lighting here.

Update:  I received a 36 inch framed print.  Looks good.  Nice to know their quality is as advertised.

What do you think of the FREE DOWNLOAD button under every image? You see it only when you are logged off. When you are logged on it reads DOWNLOAD. I would not have noticed it, but a customer emailed me and asked,  is this image no. Xxxxxx really free?
Maybe I missed something but did not see this free download issue mentioned here.

Humm... that's interesting.  I wonder what were getting paid for those "free downloads"?

My return per download at DP is 46% of my return per download at SS.  I stopped uploading to DP...

I feel they are trying to become the next facebook or instagram or whatever I don't know. Its just a matter of time when they will drop the entire review process and reduce royalties like istock.

They are nothing like facebook or instagram.  They just want to boast having one billion images before the competition does.

My annual return per photo is half of what it was in 2012.  Total income is below last year despite steady uploads.  I've arrived at the proverbial wall... looking for a way around it...

Visual China Group... they did an amazing job when they took over Veer in 2016.  What could possibly go wrong?

Adobe Stock / Re: editorial on adobe and caption

I understand their reluctance to embrace editorial content where people are the main subject (paparazzi conduct is often problematic).  I hope they allow contributors to submit editorial travel shots (where the place is the main subject) and illustrative editorial object shots in the near future.

Adobe Stock / Re: Poor $ week on fotolia
« on: May 24, 2018, 15:01 »

No, this is not true. All accepted files uploaded to Fotolia are automatically online at Adobe Stock and all content uploaded via Adobe Stock that is approved is automatically online at Fotolia.

Why did we sync then?

All new contributors only have the option to use the contributor portal. While it still has a long way to go, the majority of our engineering resources directed at the contributor experience are pointed at the contributor portal. It's entirely up to you which UI you prefer but as time goes on the Adobe Stock Contributor Portal is getting more intuitive and easier to use.

It's good to sync so you can determine for yourself which option is better. If you prefer Fotolia then no harm in syncing and sticking with Fotolia.

-Mat

Much prefer the Adobe Portal for uploading & submitting but still use Fotolia for data for my accounts etc.

I'd prefer it if Adobe allowed both portals to run alongside each other without trying to push customers over to Adobe Stock when they search for or, use a FT bookmark. Or, if Adobe take on FT's credit system so to avoid the drop in earnings from missing out on those larger credit sales.... could you just flick a switch Matt and implement that  ;D

Would be cool to have a fotolia / adobe tab on the contributor sites.  Seemless flipping kind of thing.

I'm seeing 18 on demand sales...  If I'm getting 36%.. are they selling shots for 50 ?

« on: May 07, 2018, 14:57 »
But here's the bit that kills contributors

"Paid download growth slowed to a near-standstill, rising just 0.5% year over year to 43.7 million and actually declining slightly compared to the fourth quarter of 2017. Yet Shutterstock got a lot more revenue from each download, boosting unit revenue by 17% to $3.40 per download"

So how did they do that? Either by fiddling the figures (unlikely) or by pushing the lower value 25 cent contributors therefore making more money per download

But of course thats all tin foil hat conspiracy stuff isn't it? ::)

They are talking about revenue per download, not profit. How much the contributors get is not relevant for that figure.
Most likely they are more successful in selling higher priced licenses and / or videos.
Should be good for us (RPD going up)

Just out of curiosity, I just did a quick comparison over the last two one-year periods (May 2016 - April 2017 vs May 2017 - April 2018).
My own RPD rose from $0,75 to $0,98.

Number of downloads was almost flat (slight decline), but total revenue was up by around 20%.

A small rise in video downloads as a percentage of total downloads could explain it.

247
And I know several designer and arty people who think this is great.....!
:(((((

Do they shop around and bargain hunt at DP or do they only buy from DP?

248
Has anyone ever seen a large format framed print from FAA?  I'm thinking of buying one.. for convenience.. and as a test.  Would like to get a quality review before ordering.

Thought I did close SmugMug.  Flickr... can't remember.  Doesn't matter.  Flickr will self destruct.  I'll deal with SmugMug when the dust settles.

I thought my Flickr and SmugMug accounts were closed a long time ago.  Attack of the zombies.  They need to add a opt out button.
