Newbie Discussion / Re: Keeping Clipping Paths in Lightroom Exports« on: May 09, 2014, 20:43 »
Ok so here is my solution for keeping clipping paths with photo until I can figure something else out for those who are having the same problem.
Take photos in Raw Import into Lightroom - Make adjustments and Do all MetaData Save Meta Data Export to Photoshop for Retouch Save as jpg and put in your finish file to submit to sites. Import jpg or tif (if you save a copy as a tif) back into Lightroom for your Library Reference What you don't want to do if you are having the problem I am having is import jpg into Lightroom and then Export final copy to up load to the Stock sites. You want your jpg that was saved in Photoshop to be your final version for the stock sites. Any jpg imported onto Lightroom after its been through Photoshop will lose its Clipping Path so importing the jpg back into Lightroom would only serve as your way to view your collection in Lightroom. Note: you do not have to change to sRGB in Photoshop if you prefer AdobeRGB also you're 16 bit photo automatically changes to 8 bit when saving as jpg. 228
Newbie Discussion / Re: Keeping Clipping Paths in Lightroom Exports« on: May 09, 2014, 19:43 »
Update: So I have tried various combinations such as converting file to 8 bit and sRGB and saving as jpg then importing back into Lightroom, however it is not saving my clipping path either when it first comes into Lightroom or when its exporting out of Lightroom. I have tried 8 bit, 16 bit, adobeRGB, sRGB combinations and I have also tried sRGB and AdobeRGB combinations when exporting out of Lightroom.
I shoot in Raw so when I first import into Lightroom it has a Raw format not jpg. 229
Newbie Discussion / Shoot in AdobeRGB or sRGB?« on: May 09, 2014, 19:08 »
I am in the middle of trying to understand how to save a clipping path and opened a new can of worms for my self which is should I be taking photos in sRBG or AdobeRGB. As of right now I am taking my photos in Adobe RGB and editing them in Photoshop with AdobeRGB and Exporting them from Lightroom as AdobeRGB.
Do the Stock Sites change your submissions from AdobeRGB to sRGB. Also should my images be at 16 bit or 8 bit because currently I am submitting 16 bit. 230
Newbie Discussion / Re: Keeping Clipping Paths in Lightroom Exports« on: May 09, 2014, 18:51 »
Ok so I have to change my file from 16 bit to 8 bit then save as a jpg in order to keep the clipping path?
Because I saved my jpg at 16 bit and it did not work. Also when exporting in Lightroom does it export at 16 bit or does it reduce it to 8 bit automatically as I would rather not lose quality for the sake of keeping a clipping path if Lightroom exports as 16 bit? 231

General Stock Discussion / Re: Helicon Focus Question« on: May 08, 2014, 09:49 »what exactly do you mean by dual and washed out? If I use Helicon Remote then they already look Dull or lack of any color saturation, basically a Raw file look. But if I take the photos Manually and they are going into Lightroom without doing any adjustments in Lightroom they already look better but as soon as I go to open those files in Helicon Focus they look like Raw files, as where in Lightroom they look like jpegs with adjustments. So my plan is to take the photos manually so they go into Lightroom then make adjustments, Save as Jpegs then send them into Helicon Focus. Is that a good plan? or Should I just take them into Helicon Foucs and Stack them, then send it to Lightroom and make adjustments? Because I tried that but the photo didn't seem to look as good even with the adjustments! 235
Symbiostock - General / Re: Symbiostock on Existing Hosting?« on: May 08, 2014, 02:18 »
Well I have a Domain set up specifically for this with its own hosting so I don't need a subdirectory correct? It would all go into the main directory? I am using Godaddy.com
Where do you go on symbiostock to get what you need to set it up on your own hosting? Do you sign up as a member first and then its made available to you? I just did not see that option checking out the site! 236
Newbie Discussion / Re: Keeping Clipping Paths in Lightroom Exports« on: May 08, 2014, 01:02 »
So its been awhile since I started this post but I feel ready to tackle this problem now.
I still am looking for a solution here. My process is to take my photo into Lightroom, add some adjustments then export to Photoshop with "Render Using Lightroom" do my touch ups then I save as a Tif and then I import the Tif into Lightroom for metadata and export as Jpeg as the finished file. When I export to Photoshop from Lightroom it gives me two options, "Render Using Lightroom" and "Open Photo" I don't use "Open Photo" because it ignores my Lightroom Adjustments. When I create a Clipping Path in Photoshop it does not save in the Tif I guess? I save as Tif because I think it save more information as where the Jpeg Compresses it. But I guess it doesn't matter since I am going to export it as a Jpeg anyway. 237
Symbiostock - General / Symbiostock on Existing Hosting?« on: May 08, 2014, 00:45 »
I have my own Domain and Hosting and want to know if I can put Symbiostock on the hosting plan and domain I already have or do I have to create a new website and domain through symbiostock.com and have it hosted with them instead?
If I can put it on my web hosting and existing domain how do I do that? When I go to symbiostock.com it wants you to find a domain and create a site. Thanks 238
General Stock Discussion / Helicon Focus Question« on: May 05, 2014, 20:27 »
When I look at my photos in Lightroom they look Great but when I take my photos that I am going to stack into Helicon Focus they look dual and washed out. Does anyone know why that happens and how to fix that, I am shooting in Raw and saving as a Tif when I save in Helicon Focus. Do I need to save the Metadata first or export them to PhotoShop first?

General Stock Discussion / Whats up with Dreamstime?« on: April 25, 2014, 18:35 »
I have been wondering what the deal is with Dreamstime for a long time. All my top sellers at SS don't do much on Dreamstime and I can't even find them because I gave up after so many pages back, yet on SS they are at the top of the first page! I have all the same images on Dreamstime as SS and yet the income is about 3% in comparison to SS yet they are one of the larger agencies.
Do I need to cut down my Keywords or is Dreamstime under Reproting their sales or Should they be demoted to a lower Tier? What are your thoughts or suspicions? 243
General Stock Discussion / Re: What is deathtothestockphoto.com ?« on: April 23, 2014, 23:41 »
Ok so I took the plunge and gave them my email which is what I was trying to avoid and found at that joining with an email did not go any farther than that, just an offer to download their latest photos for free. I found out their whole plan is to send people their photos via email. That they are a small stock company. What I can not figure out is how they make money, so they must be actively making money in stock photos on stock sites and this is their side project and somehow someday they will start charging money once they are in high demand.
As a graphic designer you can't wait for the photo you need to someday show up in your email nor would you get a photo in the email and then decide to build your business around it. So in that respect I think they have missed the boat. I am guessing that they expect those who subscribe to the email to save all the photos and build their library on their own computers and that way perhaps they can use the email to get people to buy photos or something, I will have to let you know when I get my first email. 244

General Stock Discussion / iStock Vrs Shutterstock Subscription Plan« on: April 23, 2014, 00:41 »
So people are talking about leaving iStock Exclusive so they can be on other stock sites such as Shutterstock which may or may not be a good thing which brings me to my question for those of you who are Non-Exclusive and are on both sites.
If you were to take lets say your best selling photo on iStock and compare it to the Sells you have with that same photo on Shutterstock, which site sells the most of that image in terms of number of downloads? Please post your numbers on the downloads one vrs the other! No need to mention the photos subject matter or income unless of course you wish to share that too! Thanks 247

General Stock Discussion / Re: istock Exclusive Earnings Rating 307.7 ?« on: April 21, 2014, 13:03 »There is no earnings cap on SSFinally, when you add up the total numbers for independents a number of very high performing sites are not represented in the polls because of voting minimums. This would hurt exclusives numbers many many times more than nonexclusives. How many contributors here are making more than 2500/month at Shutterstock? My guess is very few. If you were to ask that of exclusives I would guess many of them would be well over that. I have submitted a few hundred photos that normally would have increased my monthly income but instead nothing has changed in terms of income increase. Which is why i keep wondering if their is some sort of cap or perhaps a system they have in place to only show so many of your images per day so that they can show pictures from all contributors on their site. |
