New Sites - General / Re: Stockphoto.com?

Maybe stockphoto.com is linking to photos on other stock sites and then makes affiliate commissions if someone comes to his site and buys the photo?

New Sites - General / Re: Stockphoto.com?

Yeah it just seams strange that they can have such a high ranking in the Google search results on the first page beating out Adobestock and others and they are doing it organically without paid placement.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stupid Question?
« on: January 02, 2021, 12:48 »
I put the same images on both sites. If you use Stock Submitter it is zero work and I earned $460 this year - about 5% of my SS earnings

But do you feel like its drawing sales away from Shutterstock?

General Stock Discussion / Stupid Question?
« on: January 02, 2021, 11:29 »
I feel stupid for just now asking this question 8 years into stock photography but for those contributors who have been into it longer can you please answer this question.

Should I bother putting my images on Bigstock since Shutterstock owns them and I already have my images on Shutterstock? My fear was that if I added my images to Bigstock then my sales at Shutterstock would go down as buyers find my same photos at the other site. Is this a legitimate concern or am I just missing out on sales at Bigstock?

Thanks!

New Sites - General / Stockphoto.com?
« on: January 02, 2021, 11:11 »
Is anyone here on stockphoto.com? If so what are your thoughts about them and their payout structure?

I was looking on Google under the Search for "Stock Photos" and saw that after Shutterstock and iStock, StockPhoto.com was the third site listed that was not a free stock photo site.

Also what's the deal with stockphotosecrets.com as they were on the first page as well.

Thanks I didn't find it in the search so glad its already been covered. To me the other problem with this idea of contributors sharing their knowledge is that they are using an artificial intelligence program to record your answers so that once you have answered they will not keep coming back to you for the same question and of course ultimately you are giving away the secret to your own success for a few bucks or cents?

Has anyone heard of the Shutterstock Contributor Expert Program? If so are you a part of it and is it worth it?

General Stock Discussion / Dreamstime Glitch
« on: November 09, 2017, 01:52 »
Has anyone else notice a glitch in Dreamstime once you have uploaded your photos and are in the commercial categorization page, sometimes the page will glitch and automatically check the "Sell The Rights" box and the "Use Recommended Price Box"? This is a problem if you don't notice this glitch take place and don't plan to sell the rights!

General Photography Discussion / Pricing a Product Shoot?
« on: August 28, 2017, 22:06 »
I am in talks with a start up clothing line that needs product shot, 52 photos in all. Any advice on pricing out a bid? What would you charge to shoot 26 items with two shots each?

Thanks.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Self Promoting Your Work?
« on: August 13, 2017, 00:57 »
Maybe I need to refine this question, how many of that 100 Million do you think buy images with subscriptions on a  regular basis instead of on demand? 50 Million I think maybe 50 Million based on my own sales which are about 50% Subs and 50% everything else.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Self Promoting Your Work?
« on: August 12, 2017, 01:52 »
I think there is room for marketing on Google with long tail keywords, and there are other forms of marketing. Does anyone have any specifics on buyer demographics? I have for instance one image that has sold close to 5000 times on a site so I know there are at least 5000 buyers out there but I have no idea who they are! Also what is a realistic number for possible buyers out there 100K?

General Stock Discussion / Self Promoting Your Work?
« on: August 10, 2017, 16:38 »
So I'm just wondering who really buys stock photos? As a contributor to the various stock sites you never get to see who is really buying your photos. If you are going to market your work on your own what are some of the main buys our there? Graphic designers, Media Companies, Web Designers, Marketers, Bloggers?

In order to self promote you need to know who is buying photos in order to put together keyword advertisement.

Anyone have an idea as to what groups buy stock photos on a regular basis and what kind of general keywords might be relevant to put together a ad on google etc?

Thanks

Shutterstock.com / SS Extra Release?
« on: June 13, 2017, 11:55 »
I was contacted by SS asking for me to complete a form to license my work to a customer, why would they need some extra form when its already royalty free? Here is the email I was sent and I am skeptical of its legitimacy! Could be a fishing scam?

"I hope this note finds you well.

Our client is interested in licensing your work (image id: -----------) , but requires a completed form, including your signature, on the attached form for their records before they can proceed.

Can you please kindly complete and return the attached form? Please enter your name, city/state and date and sign it at the bottom.

Please let me know if you have any questions! Otherwise, please sign and send back to me at your earliest convenience.

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,"

So they already have all my personal info and the images are already Royalty Free! Has anyone ever received one of these, is it legit?

Thanks

Why would they want to block sales?

SS is still up however so hopefully sales will continue today.

Out for me , Safari and Chrome won't work so SS for sure.

Shutterstock.com / SS Price Structure?
« on: March 26, 2017, 21:53 »
I've never bought from SS before and I never fully understand their pricing since I don't buy from them.
Under Professional Pricing plan it says

750 images for $199 a month if you sign up for the year plan.
1. Is that 750 Large size images for $199 a month or 750 web size images? Or a combination?
2 If they sign up for the yearly price of $199 month are they locked into a year contract or can they cancel?
3. It also says no daily down load limits, so is that no limits until they reach 750 images for the month?

Thanks

Shutterstock.com / Login Problems and Earnings not Showing?
« on: February 22, 2017, 16:09 »
Today I have noticed that the monthly earnings are not showing and that sometimes I can login and other times I can not, anyone else having the same problems?

Why should we have to jump through hoops? I refuse to do that.

I understand how you feel but think about it this way, there are a lot of photographers who will jump through those hoops. If your livelihood is dependent on jumping through those hoops then start jumping, if not then don't jump I guess. As for me I'm going to do a little jumping but I doubt I will rework 720 images which is what my tally is for poor discoverability.

21
Alamy notified me that all 3,000+ of my images are poor discoverability.

What a shame and waste of time doing all that uploading and keywording!!  Can you believe that?

I noticed that when I have the max keywords of 50 the discoverability bar goes to green! Basically the more info you input such as the description length and the other various data fields the bar goes up. However if your sales have been fine in the past I doubt anything has seriously changed in that regard but then I guess we won't really know for a month and then see if sales are the same.

To wrap this thread up I just got news from Adobe Stock that they are accepting the image!

Shutterstock.com / Accepted Images Not in Gallery
« on: January 13, 2017, 16:45 »
I noticed that my newest images that were accepted don't show up in the my SS Gallery, I've never really checked before in the past. Is it typical for images to be accepted and not show in the gallery for several days later? Couldn't find them under a normal search on Shutter Stock in the new section either.

Thanks!

Shutterstock.com / Re: File size rejected
« on: January 13, 2017, 14:33 »
Maybe they are running out of room on their servers! Ive seen a lot of Image Spam 50 - 60 images of the same thing with slight variations, that must be pain for a buyer to search through especially if they are not interested in that particular image.

I also noticed that my latest batch of photos were accepted but are not showing up in the portfoilo.

What I took umbridge at... was somebody getting an image rejected for intellectual property reasons, and not even considering, for one moment, that it might have actually been rejected... for intellectual property reasons.

No you decided to turn the OP's question into a cat fight based on nothing more than your own suppositions

Give it a rest!

You're right Sammy, what I should have said was...

"You item was rejected for intellectual property reasons? My word, that's terrible. As nobody ever submits items that would be rejected for intellectual property reasons, then it's obvious that they've made a big mistake."

But it wasn't what I said. Fair enough, the response I gave may have been inappropriate due to not knowing if an item had been copied, but the OP's responses seemed to lack any acceptance that this may have actually been due to an intellectual property reason... and as the thread went on, it became very clear that the OP had little knowledge on what does and doesn't constitute a breach of copyright law (whether his specific item was or not). I could have 'given it a rest' at that point, but thought it was more important to make it clear what is and isn't copying.

Maybe I wasn't as cordial as I could have been, but what does the guy want? A sticker, a lollypop and a "There, there... don't worry brave little soldier. Everything's going to be ok?"

What I want is insight from other professionals on how to solve the problem, not a condescending person who always has to be right and has to prove something.

I was hoping that someone from Fotolia would read this thread and reach out to me to discuss the issue! It is frustrating to spend a great deal of time creating in Photoshop and feel like your image has been rejected for looking like it was the real thing.

As explained before SS has rejected images for intellectual copyright before, but once I explained I created the images in question they passed them and as for this lotto ticket SS and all the other sites have excepted the images of the lotto ticket I made so that is why I drew my conclusions that the Adobe Stock reviewer simply did not realize that I made it and therefore rejected it under Intellectual Copyright, I think that is a logical conclusion to draw and thus my reason for posting on this site for further help and hoping a FT member would pick up on it as they have with others on this site before for other issues.

Why should stock contributors bother coming to this site if its members only want to bully other members, is this simply a hang out for the cool kids?
