Pond5 / Re: Pond5 review times
« on: February 17, 2016, 04:58 »
Likewise, review times don't bother me - Pond5 isn't the place to sell dated editorial footage and besides it usually takes at least 6 months for new footage to start selling, more often longer.

Good to see Pond5 now firmly in the Top Tier - Big 4 in the poll results. Plenty of people making good money there and all these folks bailing because they can't wait, well that's good for the rest of us in the long run  :D

Says James Reynolds, Pond5 promoter who happen to get a nice promos every now and then via P5.

Nobody who wish well to the company should say that long reviews of clips and ID checks are OK.

p.s. Great footage, btw!

I've been waiting for over a month for them to approve my ID. They won't sell anything of mine until then. Very frustrating.

Try opening a support ticket.  I waited over a month as well and when I contacted support they replied and approved my id on the same day.

So, to get your ID ONLY approved you wait over a month + you got to wake them up with a support ticket!  :o

"No agency should get more than 50% commission and together we can enforce that."

if you knew how many times I said that, You would be amazed.

I would have expected nothing else from you!

The agency commission will decline.
Agencies are becoming less important in the future.
It will be easier in the future to sell images without an agency.
Today agencies grab the largest part of the cake.
In the future sellers and buyers not put up with that longer.
Agencies be replaced by search engines.
I am convinced of that.

I also believe in this.
At some point Google will buy them ALL out.  8)

Ah okay, I understand the truth now that us contributors are just pawns and preyed on by big companies as the answer of 'Chill' does nothing to address this massive issue and instead is the standard 'ad hominem attack' (attack the person not the issue) used most likely from a stock marketplace employee or shill.

@TheDrift, audited by whom exactly?  Wouldn't the marketplace be paying some auditor to support their narrative and story?  ...and if the auditor did find an issue we would never hear about it.

Folks, wake up and demand more accountability and transparency in these marketplaces...we need a better system instead of just trusting that there are no bad actors or hackers screwing us out of our royalties!

I agree ... but how?
Until we get the insiders willing to talk about it we will sit in a dark.
AND they can not come out because they sign "keep your mouth shut" agreements for good $.
And it's not just under-reporting sales, it's under-reporting everything...salaries, expenses...
Making books look good is not that hard job for pros. Look just how Google avoided taxes in the UK.

Nobody got rich by playing fair play and by the rules.  :-\

TNX Shelma for sharing.  :)

My opinion:
I do not care where SS is moving, but I know that my SS buyers are moving to Fotolia and 123, for sure.

For vector it's faster, around 2-3 week ! I have photo pending for more than a month ... I guess video is 2 month ! Why don't they hire us to review pending files ? haha

Great idea! :-)

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 subscription program to start
« on: February 13, 2016, 08:01 »
I just found the survey in my inbox.  I could still do it and there was nothing about subscriptions in it.

Me too - I just went and looked and found the message from Jan. 7th.  I went ahead and took the survey and it seemed to go through.  Maybe there were two different surveys?

Maybe...who knows.

Freepik, please answer my questions.  Why should it be up to us to find the images that are being downloaded thousands of times without the copyright holders consent?  By the time these images are found, the person that originally made that image might of already lost a substantial amount of earnings.  Please tell us how you are going to go through all your images, identify all the ones that are being used without consent and fully compensate the copyright holder.  Then there's the problem with your designers making images that are very similar to other people's work instead of doing their own work.  How do you justify that?  Why would any sensible person here want to collaborate with a site that is doing that?

Im answering you, sharpshot:

We make an exhaustive analysis of the resources created exclusively for us. It isnt your labor, but ours. We do it, but its inevitable that some go unnoticed. This not only happens in Freepik but in all image banks. We are victims of copy in many occasions.

At the moment the the plagiarism is detected, we delete the content immediately. The affected author can contact us ([email protected] or [email protected]). We deeply investigate the case and compensate the author if necessary.

We dont order similar designs, and if there is any plagiarism is because we have been deceived for the designer.
With other image banks, there is a good chance that the images on the site without consent can be removed before a license has been purchased by a customer.  On your site, they have already been downloaded thousands of times, so there's really no comparison.  For your model to work, you have to be sure that what you are virtually giving away has the consent of the contributor.  You need to stop blaming other people, if your designers are making images that are too similar to other peoples, you are responsible for having that content on your site.  Just using Google image search, you can see if they are doing their own work or have been using others for their designs.

What will your downloaders do if the copyright holders demand payments for using their images without consent?  If they ask for records of who has downloaded their images without their consent, will you give it to them?  You might well end up having to compensate people that have downloaded images from your site that shouldn't of been there.

Well said...you are doing them a favor educating them here, sharpshot! I salute you.

I reckon survey question about whether or not you would be ok with Pond 5 setting your prices to optimize income growth must be somewhat subscription related, no?

Maybe some answers here... apparently not everyone was asked to fill survey. Wonder why?

EarthUncutTV + All who don't received survey:

You are not the only one. I did not received it either. Here is Jonathan's answer from my support email yesterday:
"Hi Pat,
This email was sent out almost a month ago, the responses have all already been recorded. Sorry, it's too late."
Obviously some of us are not important, or worse that we are not in the subscription, that is why we did not received survey.

It is over, game over... .

Considering these guys had been only 5 years around and already did amazing work, one got to give them some credit, and yes 100% is something.

VideoBlocks / Re: We need to help videoblocks to grow
« on: February 09, 2016, 18:30 »
If they decide to sell at much lower price or lower our commission, we can just delete our clips.  It's so easy.

I don't sell video, so this is just a comment in general terms about the risks you take if you sign on for a deal that is undercutting other agencies where you currently sell.

If VideoBlocks becomes dominant and then cuts your royalties you may not have any other agencies left out there to sell through. So you can just delete your clips (always something you want to check with any agency, that you can do that yourself), but there's nowhere to go.

There was a story about limo drivers in Houston who helped Uber get started, spoke up for them with the city council, and then when Uber started changing the deal and cutting driver payments, the companies they used to drive for were all gone and they were stuck with Uber.

Smart words...

Look at the top tier...all used to be "artist friendly" once!

KnowYourOnions never lets the facts get in the way of having a dig at Pond5 :)  They probably deserve some of it lately but it does get a bit tiresome when every post is about the same few things.  Lets save some of the negative posts for when they cut our commission, seems to happen whenever a site hits the top tier here.

You are right....the worst might yet to come. We better save the ammunition for it.  8)

If only "artist friendly company" warned us prior to uploading that waiting time is over 2 months, I would happily applaud what you just wrote here.
BUT they didn't and they didn't even bother to explain why, not to mention to apologize for it publicly. It's been more than 3 months and this ordeal is still on.
I was warned when I uploaded.  This is what it said
'Due to upload volume, artists are experiencing unusually long wait times for content approval. Currently our average wait time is over 2 months. We are working on shortening this wait time and we appreciate your patience.'

Too late... you already uploaded, wasted your time and therefore were tricked in to over 2 months waiting.
Why not saying this prior to uploading? Would you still upload?  :-\

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 review times

The delays are most likely due to curators' time being used up working on the new subscription program collection. Once that's implemented I wouldn't be surprised to see the review time decrease significantly.

Making money from stock footage requires a heavy investment of time and work - those giving up and throwing in the towel due to a 2 month wait are probably better off doing something else.

They could easily just tell us that they are getting quadruple or more of their normal volume of uploads. Its possible that thousands of photographers have suddenly decided to try video and Pond5 is doing so well in the poll here, its the obvious place to upload first.

Other possibilities, maybe they are cutting back on the expenses of reviewers, to make their books look good for some reason.  Or they might be re-reviewing all previously uploaded clips to remove the lower quality ones but I think we would of heard about that by now.

Whatever is going on, I think they should let us know a bit more, a sites reputation is hard to build and very quickly goes when we are kept in the dark about something.

True...but they are too busy promoting their own films via company social media.  :o
I found all this rather  I N C R E D I B L E !!!

Instead of fixing long review times, P5 video development manager is having shameless self promotion of his new film.
How absolutely tasteless!

I agree with previous post regarding P5. I submitted my first large batches of videos in November. They are selling well on SS, VB, even got some sales on FT, but absolutely nothing on P5. Part of the problem is they only reviewed the content few weeks ago... hopefully they eventually produce some sales, or I'll stop believing that P5 is strong for video :D

Let's hope that new elitist recruit will save the sales and slow reviews on P5.
