i found out about it yesterday - got my invitation in about an hour.

so far, using the same method as jsnover, i've only found references to 123rf - well i found one of my images in use now that i think about it... could be very nice when they get lots of images indexed.

Well - i'm not sure it helps you at all Leaf since you're not in the USA, but it might help others... in the US, there's canon rebates that started yesterday - Amazon seems to be discounting the price some (but there's also some who say they raised the price before they lowered it?)

They are supposed to be instant (not mail in) which helps us lazy folk

as much as i've complained about IS and their mistakes, they're earning me more money right now than SS and SS isn't going to catch up with this raise. Don't get me wrong, i always appreciate a raise no matter how low. But now that imageManager is back in business for IS, i'll be uploading more to IS first (tho it still bugs me to have to disambiguate!)

I don't believe that you can make that assumption - databases can be encrypted regardless of the security on the page.

UncleGene, i've always wondered about that but never taken the time to learn... seems to me that the http page passing data to the https page is still sending it unsecured to secured, but since the start is unsecured, then the data passed to the secure page isn't secure until it gets there and therefore isn't very secure... am i right?

John, i believe shutterstock is indeed using ssl (https) if you look at their code, you'll see that the "action" referral on the login button does point to https:

i was able to contact them - but agree my first emails were rejected as spam - i removed any urls in the email (my signature has them) and then emails went thru.

I tend to agree with your philosophy, but strangely, i seem to enjoy signing up to the new sites - i must have a hole in my head.

As with every site, results are different for everyone. I (and i suspect you see this coming) disagree with you on the analysis of LuckyOliver... I did see sales there and banked almost $300 thru image sales. Tho it was very hit and miss and the marketing just never came thru the way i hoped.

You also didn't list NaturalLifeStock which shut its doors in April.

There's also Pico which i joined because they had a special section for dance images (which i shoot a lot of) and alas, i've had zero sales there too - tho i've only uploaded 20-25 images... the whole library is very small there.

I think however, that in the long run, you're right about focussing on the established sites.

I do indeed thank my boss (not every week mind you) and my company for giving me the opportunity for good pay, good insurance and being able to work from home. I don't post on SS or IS or anywhere else these thank yous, but i sure don't see anything wrong with it nor do i choose to think badly of those who do and call them names.

Many often complain that they aren't paid enough, aren't appreciated by their manager (if they have a job), aren't appreciated by their spouse etc... but if you'd stop and think and start appreciating them, then more than likely, they'll appreciate you more and more good things will come your way.

Whining and complaining does very little good (i've done my share and i see what it has done for me - nothing).

looks like a site that is a collection for buyers - don't see any links for joining as a photog.

Well, i guess you shouldn't be around this site then because it was specifically designed with that in mind. Leaf is just trying to assist people with making money. And, it helps if you want to go see a person's portfolio at a specific site.

I've just found and purchased a Canon EOS 5D 12.8 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens thru Amazon - $2750 for both!

Now, for full disclosure, that link includes an affiliate link for yours truly which would give me a 4% commission for your purchase. A great deal for you and a good deal for me.

I used Sy's Amazon affiliate link yesterday to purchase the camera (ETA, yes, Sy got the $110 commission and I think it would be great if people who are about to buy camera equipment from Amazon would let me know so they could use my affiliate ID and I'd get a little reward!

More as i figure out how to make that happen.

Now, I realize that Canon is rumored to be releasing a new version of the 5D sometime maybe this fall - but i've also heard that they may be cutting back on production of the 5D before then and they may become hard to find. So i went ahead and bought this package because i also wanted an "L" lens. So, maybe if you're thinking about getting a 5D, maybe the time is now?
