Based on my current numbers, I earn an average of 5 credits per file sold. As an independant, to keep a royalty rate of 20%, I'd have to sell 280.000 files per year, which is 767 files per day ! No need to tell you I'm FAR from it.
And thinking I just made gold canister last month... Not that it's anything to write home about for an independant as money is concerned, but I still felt good for the accomplishment. Now, my promotion to gold will mean a 20% royalty cut. Thanks iStock.
[DREAM MODE] Now that I think about it, they said : You will retain the royalty rate from the end of the previous year . So i guess I should retain my current 2010 rate of 20% for the coming year ? [/DREAM MODE]
Just to see the good part of it, I guess my plans/motivation to invest more in macro will get a HUGE boost.

Just wait for a few days for their old and verified tactics. They will offer something that is just slightly less awful than this and people will start saying "Thanks istock".
+1 That's what I suspect too. First announce a REALLY bad news, then listen to the masses by taking a step back to just a bad news. Reminds me our politicians...

Just out of curiosity, I checked my preferences and noticed that in Preferences / My Uploads / File Collections / Manage Collections there's an "opt-in to Partner Program" checkbox which is checked, though I'm sure I didn't opt in when StockXpert was shut down.
OTOH, I checked several of my files (in Administration / Edit File Information) and they all seem to be opted-out with the following message :
You are currently opted-out from our Partner Program. If you would like the option to make this or other files available at certain Getty Images partner sites, you can open your Control Panel and check 'Opt-In to Partner Program'.
I'm not sure what's going on and whether I should change anything or just leave it as it is ?

Joe McNally confesses his photographer's sins to Father Bob (Krist). I particularly liked (coming from two nikon shooters) : - they should canonize you - oh Joe... that's blasphemy [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvWnMb5XRp0[/youtube]

Vonkara links graph image directly from Dreamstime web. So everybody who is logged in Dreamstime see his graph.. Try to logout from Dreamstime and you cannot see Vonkara's graph..
Ok I get it now ! What we see is not Vonkara's graph, it's our own graph. Thanks skvoor for the clarification !

I'm not sure I even want to think about what this must mean.
I'm not sure I want either...

Am I the only one to have the exact same Sales/Revenue curves as Vonkara ? Not only similar curves. The EXACT same numbers, month after month. How is that possible [EDIT] False alarm. See how it is possible in Skvoor's post below It's SUPER DEAD

Oh I should also add that you can upload more than your limit of 100 and have them sitting in the "new" section of your workspace. That way when the week is up, you can submit the images that you already have uploaded and waiting in the wings.
...all well and good... I am doing that allready, hoping they don't have a timelimit on processing those files like some other libraries that delete them after 30 days, 6weeks or 7 weeks
You can even transfer the newly uploaded files to the edit section and start to "disambiguate" them (I hate that word...;o) and leave them there until you can submit them.

They ask for a website, and I don't have anything newsworthy at mine. I guess I have to upload some, I have several sports events photos - the latest was the Red Bull Air Race last weekend.
Though I shoot newsworthy events regularly, I didn't have any of those pictures in my online porfolio until recently. So I added a "reportage" gallery with carefully selected images and sent my submission form around the end of April. Just received my approval email one hour ago The new upload for reportage/archival is a Flash application, but I still haven't tried it.

Thanks for the link Adelaide.
BTW, the chord pattern in this video is C G Am F (not Em)
And yes, some chord patterns are "standards" which sound good to our ears (at least ears used to listen to western music).
I used to play lots of jazz music, and two chord progressions are very well known by jazz musicians. That's what we call 2-5-1 and 6-2-5-1. I guess such patterns also exist for pop music or other genres.
For more info, you can google "2 5 1 chord progression" or "6 2 5 1 chord progression".

Thanks cclapper, I'll look into it.
[EDIT] I just went to the english flickr page and clicked on the Copyright/IP Policy link, but it keeps redirecting me to the Yahoo France page with a form to fill / print / send. It seems the process is different for different countries.

Both of you are probably right, but the way I found this flickr page is because I found my image used on many other websites that hot-link to this image or even credit this flickr user as the source of the image. They probably think that this image is free to use as it is on Flickr.

Once more, I found one of my images on FlickR. Other images in the same gallery look like typical stock images. Maybe one of yours is there : http://www.flickr.com/photos/mysavingstips/I tried to send a copyright infringement notice to FlickR but they redirect me to a Yahoo (France) form that I have to fill and send by tracked snail mail. Any other way to send an online notice ? (I don't have a FlickR account, so can't leave a message to the user) Erick

I'm not an iPhone or iTouch user myself, but thought this review could be interesting for some of you. It's an iPhone app that allows to fill and file different kinds of releases that can be "hand signed" by the model or property owner on the device's screen. A picture of the model taken with the device can be attached to the release. Don't know if the releases would be accepted by the agencies, though. And the review doesn't say if it's available in other languages than english. http://www.thedigitaltrekker.com/2010/03/mrelease-review/

I guess that's what the "ignore" feature is for ! I never used it until those last childish pimping threads, but now I can say I know how it works

Stunning ! At first, I thought there were just a few CG elements composited with mainly real video, but after looking at the second video, I realized it was the other way around ! Thanks for posting.

I have made a generic, dual-language (English and Portuguese) model release. Feel free to copy and modify to your liking!
http://www.danielwiedemann.com/storage/model_release.gif
Dan, thanks for your sample. I also need a dual language generic model release (french/english). Is it accepted by most of the big agencies ? Do they accept releases without a picture of the model on it ? I have downloaded Getty's latest model releases in both french and english, but fitting both languages on a single page would make the text quite small.

Not only cars it seems. I had a few of mine removed in october from a series of Manhattan cityscapes : And yes, all potential trademarks, ad signs or whatever had been edited out from the picture. Maybe it's because I tell in the caption that it has been shot from the top of the Rockefeller Center ? Is the RFC considered a trademark or copyrighted ? [EDIT] And for each removed image, I had the same cryptic message : "deleted because: Quality Control: Deleted per Legal -- Do Not Resubmit"

I just found a link to a simple tool that will "help you learn how to read light conditions and learn exposure to the degree where you don't need a light meter". All you need is a printer, some paper card, a craft-knife, a ruler and some glue. And it even comes in two flavors : standard and mini ! http://expomat.tripod.com/

Another benefit of shooting tethered, even if you don't look at the pictures on your computer during the session, is that you can have your prefered DAM software work while you're shooting, thus saving time on the transfer/import part of your workflow. You'll be able to browse through all images instantly at the end of the shooting session, or during a coffee break, without having to wait for your software to transfer, rename, import, apply default metadata and post settings, etc...
For example, Lightroom can take a while to download and import 100/200 images in its database and generate 1:1 previews. If you import all images in one go at the end of a shooting session, you won't be able to quickly browse through them, view them at 100% while LR is still working.
What I do is set Canon's EOS Utility to transfer the files in a given directory, then enable LR's automatic import from this directory. Each time I press the shutter, the picture is automatically transfered to my HD, renamed and imported in LR, its 1:1 preview is generated, and I can have LR add default keywords/metadata as well as apply a post-processing preset. All that being done while I keep shooting.
