Canva / Re: Canva
« on: March 27, 2015, 10:50 »
Yes, having completed the backlog we're now working through the files uploaded while we were reviewing the backlog.  We're going through contributor by contributor in the order of signup, so early adopters like yourself are already up to date.  Hopefully only another few weeks before we're up to date with everybody.  :)

And what about the files that need to be resubmitted (by Canva) due to technical error?  Last week you said I had 489 like that.  I suppose they have not been resubmitted yet, since my total number of accepted files has not changed.

For files in the backlog, the date you uploaded them has no impact on when they get reviewed.  If they're not all reviewed by next Friday, email me and I'll look into it for you.

Lee, I submitted around 6000 files months ago, and I have about 4000 approved files, and probably a lot of "to be cut out" files.
Please don't ask me to check if the difference of about 1900 files are ALL to be cut out, or also non-approved ones.  How can I check this?  It would mean to browse 300 pages, one by one ...

nice going on reducing the backlog -- I've had 2000 images added in the past 2 weeks

when will the total images reflect the actual number submitted?  recent uploads don't show up in the total

When did you submit those 2000 ?  Just asking because my backlog of almost 1800 files is not moving at all (since September/October).

I just checked :  I typed the full description of one of my popular images in Google images.  My image immediately appeared at least 20 times in the search results (obviously, as it was the full caption).  90% of the results came from Shutterstock, Bigstock and 123rf, 1 from Dreamstime, and 1 from Gettyimages.  However, when I clicked on the Getty-result, I got a page telling me I could not license this image through Getty, and it did NOT give me a link to Istock.  Clicking on the button "more of this photographer" got me zero results.

I only looked at the first page of Google results, because if I were a buyer, why would I go to page 2 if I already found the image 20 times on page 1?

Second test :  I did the same, but now in Dutch, with the translated title.  Now only 123rf and Dreamstime turned up, and there were no images from Shutterstock and Bigstock to be found.  Interesting.

I'm starting to see a pattern here :  no access all day long, and a tiny "slot" of access early in the morning (I'm in Belgium, so that's in the middle of the night for the US!).

Yes, I could get into the earnings page just now too, but the problem seems to go up and down.  The page works, but only now and then.

OK, so if it's not just me, then I don't have to find the solution in my computer settings or cookies ...

123RF / Earnings page temporarily unavailable???
« on: March 04, 2015, 01:49 »
"This page is temporarily unavailable. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. "

Since last week, this is what I get 90% of the time when I try to access my earnings page.  All other pages work fine.  Logging out/in and deleting cookies does not help at all.  Any one else with this problem?  Any solution?  If not, I guess I'll have to send a ticket to support ...

It's a pity that the backlog of the images to be cut out is so massive.  A design service should have a huge amount of cutout images or images on white or black.  As it is now, Canva has LESS images on white/black because they are "being cutout".  But many buyers don't need a cutout image, just an image on white.  So why can Canva not accept all isolated photos, especially the ones with a truly white/black background and replace them, later on, by a cutout version?

260
Spending too much time on retouching.  Removing dust spots and other stuff that the client would NEVER see, because I'm the only stupid one to zoom in at 300%

261
Does the fact that the $2 royalties are being paid out mean that Google (or DST) has finished selecting the images?
If yes, is it "safe" to opt in again?   (the "old" opt-in I mean)

262
I had exactly the same kind of e-mail!   Very weird!  All images that are in my portfolio for many months.   And no review mail for the recent submission ...
??????

Quote :  "During the beta period, images will not be available in a template library ..."

I had $2 sales too, but that does not have to be a Google sale.
My BIG question is :  do I smell exclusivity here?  If Google gets exclusivity during these 12 months, with one of my best selling images, that would mean I will lose instead of earn money ...

Sometimes I use grey or black cardboard pieces to reflect onto an area with scratches to make it easier to edit later.

Why a grey or black cardboard?  Can you explain?

If the clone tool does not work, I usually try out the smudge tool, sometimes in a long sweep over the logo, sometimes with 2 sweeps from outside the logo inwards.  But most of the time I first "cut up" the logo with the clone tool and then remove the parts with the patch tool.

I totally agree Jo Ann, January usually is my 2nd worst month, with an average of -20% compared to December.   This year seems to be -25% (all agencies together), but Canva is -55%.  If your January sales are good, that means it's "just me" which is good news.

How are sales going with you all?  Mine were fabulous in December, but January has fallen like a rock.  As if all customers were designing Christmas cards and stopped after New Year.  As Canva is new, I'm not sure what caused this :  growing number of images, change in search algorithm, or just a slow month.

Most of my models sign without reading the MR, saying "I trust you".  That's not very clever of course, because I am not in control of who buys the images and what is done with them.  But I do explain what can happen, with a few examples.  They always love the story of me appearing on a Trade Union wall poster as a witch, in my own country, and people recognizing me.  Until today, all image uses found by me, my models or their friends were happily welcomed.  I live in a country were people rarely sue, but I do wonder what would happen in case of real misuse.

269
I have about 50 pending.  It started with 8 photos of a batch of 20, then every week 3 to 5 newly uploaded files got "stuck" too.  Now I have 50 "forgotten" photos ...  The oldest are more than 4 months old.

270
Done!  I really enjoy completing the annual survey.  It makes me think about the agency ranking, RPI, how much I spent on shoots and studio stuff, etc. etc.

General Stock Discussion / Re: HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND BEST WISHES
« on: December 26, 2014, 02:44 »
Got kicked of Fotolia the same day as Ron (in May).  FT was my number 2 earner, so I expected a financial disaster.  To my big surprise, May was the exact turning point for all other agencies to start growing again.  Between January 2012 and May 2014 there had been a steady decline.  I have no idea if being kicked of FT had anything to do with it, but fact is that since May 2014, EVERY month has shown growth.

Beside stock, I have started a successful "Belly&Baby" portrait business which will eventually outgrow my stock income.  I have applied (with success) for my SWPP recognition of the British "Photography Societies" and the "EP" title (European Photographer).  My wish for 2015 is to become one of the best baby photographers in Belgium, and also to learn to work smarter :  spend less time on retouching and still deliver a top product.  If I succeed, I'll have more free time for fun stock shoots.

Happy holidays to all of you!

Ron, so glad you're back!  Now let's see if we can convince Lisa to join again?

Yes and no ... sales are indeed very low (about 55% of November 2013), but I can't say it's bizar or unexpected, since September and October had the same problem  :(

Nothing here, though I do have 1 uncleared sale of May 2013.
Did you receive an e-mail, or did you notice it on your "account balance" ?

Too late, just deleted it, and even emptied my trash can  ;D
But I'm sure I'll get more of these, so I'll send the next one to the IRS!
