we have some ambitious and exciting plans which we hope you can all be part of with us.
Oh, if we only had $10 for every time we've been promised that.
We know that the word exciting generally means "We're going to screw you even more".
It would be nice to be surprised this time; but I'm not holding my breath. "A cynic is a disappointed optimist". (George Carlin, paraphrased)

2021 had the average licence price in the same bracket as 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 - namely, an average of between $26 and $30 per licence. ... ... part of a bigger picture where our average price remains stable ...
That's strange, because on your current as-of-this-minute "Why should I sell stock imagery on Alamy?" page, which was written in May 2019*, it says, "The average image license fee on Alamy is $90".

Its not strange - just a miss on our part. This page is outdated, and Ill make sure the correct info is added - I genuinely appreciate you flagging it.

Weve been pretty consistent and open about the $30 average over the last few years in our comms with contributors and official forum and blog. This page should have been updated but was missed - no excuses.

James

Glad to be of service. ::)

Still, in the interest of transparency, you should quote the average NET, which is the only realistic figure for contributors. And to inform newbies fairly, it should be the net since our share was cut. Because for sure while your image average may be stable, Alamy has ensured that ours certainly isn't.  And make sure you're including all these tiny Chinese, and other, sales in that average.

Sales through Alamy gets you 40% of gross, distributor sales gets you 30% of gross, so I you got 30% thats distributor sale in my opinion.

Yes and I made an example, but: 15 cents  +(- .045) +(- .06) = +.045 commission - also makes me see that the .045 in the front is rounded up to .05 and the .045 for the contributor is rounded down to .04 ? They just picked up a half cent that way. Slick accounting in their favor?
Ouch, I think Old Alamy usually rounded half cents in our favour.
Just another money scrape by PA. Mony a mickle maks a muckle.

Added: No, I've just noticed I had a (small value) sale this week which had the half cent credited to me.

But in the interest of fairness, I must point out that so far this year Alamy is far ahead with 3 sales for which I will get $86.11 if I did my math right (it was so much easier when it was 50/50)
Well done, I've just had my second sale of the year, taking my total net to $2.49.

BTW, (in case you don't know, and if you do know, it might help someone else) you can see what you've netted for each sale on the 'Net Revenue Sales Report', which is downloadable from your homepage via the 'Download Sales Report' button.

Wow, great find!

Depends on what industry you're in I guess, I am in Ontario and in Ontario and Quebec it's near impossible to find any job and I've been looking since the summer, every homeless shelter in southern Ontario is 100% full and it's not all drug addicts, it's people who can't find work and pay rent and our rents have gone to the moon as well, $1200/month for a tiny student room, $3000 for an apartment if you can find one and they want a "letter of employment" and you need to be a working professional, the grocery store doesn't cut it.

I'll be honest, I grew up here, was always working since I was 15, all through school and after and this is the first time I find myself unemployed and I'm not fussy, "anything I can do" is how I look at it and I am a workaholic and enjoy being busy but we all can't become full stack developers over night, there's jobs there and in cybersecurity but it's a good 2-4 years of being back in school full time to retrain and then compete with those who started coding at 12.

Hope you find something soon.
Meanwhile, this might help, though you might need to switch in the Canadian equivalents.

My income this year is 10 cents (Canadian) that's before expenses and taxes.  lol
Level 1 on SS for photos.  Could always be worse, could be Alamy.
Oh, I've had a 2022 sale on Alamy and it netted me a whole $1.20 (US)!

iStockPhoto.com / Re: I stock new rate card reset.

But if that starting level already starts this month based upon your sales of last year is not very clear.
This makes it clear IMO:
"the Download total you end the year on determines your starting royalty rate for the next calendar year"

To quote all of your above posts.... please don't forget you are one of only a handful of people on this forum that can read a complete paragraph. I applaud you for being able to read with comprehension. It's such a rarity today.
To be fair, my googling skills don't seem to be up to much (other thread).
And I have to admit, when I get the 'red mist', all logic seems to go out of the window.

It could be that the OP read "On January 01, each year, every contributors Download total is reset to zero." and somehow misinterpreted that as meaning their royalty rate would go down.

It's no different from previous years.

Explanation Istock:   https://contributors.gettyimages.com/article_public.aspx?article_id=5210
Indeed, which says exclusives start the new year according to the sales level we had reached by Dec 31st.
No change from previous years.
The target keeps going up. I'll probably go down a level from Jan 2023 because of my ever-falling sales numbers  :'( >:(, but that's not the same as a 'reset'.

Just to start the New Year--Istock is going to reset to level (1) just like Shutterstock. It is a sad day for photographers who are treated so unfairly.
That would be a change to the contract that I, for one, have not been informed about.
Also a change to the official position as outlined on their forum 21 days ago, where it says we (exclusives*) start on the level we achieved last year.
*Indies are always on the same, flat rate.

An email I received two hours ago said:
"If you reach a higher Download Target you will receive the corresponding higher royalty rate on new licenses in the following month. You can only move up during the year, but the Download total you end the year on determines your starting royalty rate for the next calendar year, so your starting rate can move up or down."

Where did you get your information, please?

Canon / Re: Help please Canon 5KMkIV buSY after 1 shot
« on: January 02, 2022, 18:32 »
I don't have that camera, so I can't really offer a solution, but several articles I found in a google search were talking about the Digital Lens Optimizer or Dual pixel raw being enabled and resulting in very slow processing and a busy indicator. Is it possible those are turned on? High ISO noise optimization was mentioned in a couple as well.

The other thing mentioned was slow cards, but as you were getting decent results with those cards earlier, I doubt that's it.

Hope you can figure this out (without a reset to factory settings :) )

Thanks, Jo-Anne. Gold Star as always.

Seems it was the Digital Lens Optimizer, which I think I switched on, on the recomendation of one of the tutorials. I'm sure I can do without it - at least, I have until now!

Canon / Help please Canon 5KMkIV buSY after 1 shot
« on: January 02, 2022, 17:13 »
Embarrassed to ask this, but here goes...
I just upgraded to a 2nd hand 5DMkIV (previous camera the Mk2).
Just to make sure it's OK, I set it to my old favourite settings which includes AI servo (I shoot birds a lot). The light has been 'heavy overcast' for weeks, since I got the camera, so I was just shooting out of my window for testing.

Then I watched a lot of tutorials and played with a lot of buttons ... and I did 'something' and now although I'm still on AI Servo H, the camera shoots 1 image then gives me the buSY message, and it's 3-4 seconds before I can get the next click. I put a freshly charged Canon battery in, and reformatted both cards and it's the same. Not using flash.

As AI Servo was previously working fine for continuous shooting, I've clearly hit a button or a menu item I shouldn't have. The indicator for how many images I can shoot continuously is showing as [1]. I have the CF card set to accept jpeg images and the SD card set to accept RAW files. Although apparently that that slows down the buffer 'a bit', that certainly wasn't a problem before 'whatever' I did recently.

I've tried the online manual, the Bausch 5DMkIV book and googled; I'm clearly not searching for the right thing.  :-[

Can anyone work out the stupid thing I've done?

TIA

They should have people in the office tomorrow.  If they don't respond tomorrow, I'm closing the account.
Tomorrow is a Bank Holiday in the UK; I wouldn't expect any contributor support staff to be in the office.*
Tuesday is also a BH, (whoops, no that's just Scotland, doesn't apply to Alamy.)
I think in the past it has appeared that their staff in India got the British holidays around Christmas/New Year, but that might have changed with the new management.
*Also I suspect they'll have a big backlog of queries about this.

Start bombarding them on Twitter and email I sent my email this morning.

I haven't been signed up to Chinese distributor sales in over two years yet I still got one this morning. >:(
Contact Alamy's Support; this would be against  your agreement with Alamy.

There's no point complaining here they don't read it.
They do read here; but they only reply if they feel they can defend what's being complained about.
All they could do in this thread was point out that we agreed to this in our contract:
"6.4 Alamy has full authority to negotiate all terms of commissions, licences and reproduction rights of the Content including the fee, duration and scope of any Licence at its absolute discretion."

Some of the Alamy believers were grasping at straws suggesting they were "Novel Use" sales... well, I'm opted out of that little gem of a system so it can't be that... and if it is, they're selling my work there without authorisation. No, this is just Alamy hitting a new low!

Luckily, I haven't had any of these micro-mini sales so far* (but all my sales this month have netted <$7), but if I had, I'd certainly be asking Alamy for an explanation. Some people have said that they've had NU sales despite being opted out (as I am) so I'd want that clarified.
*It could just be that the Chinese don't like my photos. I get very few of the c2c-to-China sales reported on iS.

I see it in a text version (as shown above) on Firefox, despite having AdBlockPro (I don't see the other ads on FF).
On my phone, where I haven't got round to installing AdBlock, I see the full graphic at the top and bottom of the page. It's something to do with something called 'Coinbase'.
I also see the graphic verson at the top and bottom of the page on Microsoft Edge, where I also don't have AdBock.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stock websites Google ranking
« on: December 26, 2021, 15:59 »
Wouldn't we need to know what proportion of actual buyers search via Google (or Bing or ...)?

I understood that few sales are made via the search engines.
Most people who know paying for stock will probably look through a lot of agencies then make a choice or a couple of choices based on whether they seem likely to meet most of their needs, especially if they're likely to buy a subscription or package.

BTW, I noticed a surprisingly big difference in the results of a google search for 'stock video horse' and 'stock footage horse', so again we'd need to know which term is more likely to be searched on by genuine buyers.

275
When it was first sale in different agencies for you?
Overnight, but that was in December 2006.
It's different nowadays for many reasons, of which increased competition is only one.
