Have a look at wordfence, I posted about it in th general section yesterday to see if anyone was using it
Thanks Tinny, I'll try it. I hope I find some time to install it on the weekend.

I finally got around installing Wordfence. Seems to me it is pretty much set it and forget it. I haven't noticed any problems so far. Knock on wood...

Hi Pilens,

I've just registered on your site and get no password sent?
I have the same problem with my Symbio site, seems to be a fundamental bug in theme.

Anyone else tested their sites, any registrations working out there?

I've been experiencing that only with one of my test e-mail accounts.  Check out my various posts on the Bug Stomping thread.  I get the registration if I use my g-mail account, friends testing with Yahoo accounts get it, I tested using my e-mail at my day job and it came through. When I use my Optonline.net account which is my Cablevision (ISP provider) account their SpamScrubber stops it before it ever gets to my mailbox.  They are working on identifying what in the e-mail is blocking but I don't have an answer yet.  What I was able to determine was that it's the Symbiostock back-links in the e-mail that are trapping it in the spam scrubber.   Leo is aware of it and was going to work on changes.  I disabled the Spam Scrubber on the Optonline.net accoutn and it went through.  Tried forwarding it about 40 times, each time deleting different combinations of links.  Took out just the header, or just the images, took out all links, just one Symbio link, Just the other Symbio link.  The only time the forward went through was when I took out both Symbiostock links.

Very cool Leo!  I'll download that plugin when I get back from the day job.  I've got my towel.  Just don't tell us so long, and thanks for all the fish

I wasn't sure how to answer the poll - against the month or compared to previous months and typical sales.

The first half of the month was just pathetic and after the 13th I've seen an increase in sales so in that sense the change has helped this particular month but compared to previous months the sales are down.  Dollars are down, about half of what I'd normally see, and RC's are way down since I'm no longer getting the benefit of P+ with the additional credits.

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Site crashed?

I would also suggest calling Bluehost support.  In the beginning I had problems with the WP install and I called them.  In less than 10 minutes they processed everything on their end and I haven't had a problem since then.  I also just did the upgrade to the new version of WP and didn't have any problems.  I've always had good results with their support services.

I suspect between the transition to the new levels and the flooding the PP is very low on their priority list.  It's always seemed like it was a manual operation and I wouldn't be surprised to find that they are not bothering with that right now.

That search engine is looking very good! What's your logic for best match?

Now it is simple. When you enter phrase having two or more words, first go images with that phrase as single keyword or title, then images with all words as separate keywords. Images are sorted randomly to avoid grouping results from one site (random numbers are generated when images are indexed or updated in database). And images with huge number of keywords are pushed down.

OK, I wondered why we were almost invisible on a search for 'New Zealand'! We've split that phrase to work in the site search. On the other hand, thpstockphotos has dozens in your search but only five in the same search on his own site. Looks like we'll need to have both.

Good to know!  One of my top selling images would typically be searched by a phrase so I've included variations on separate words and phrases.

Thanks you for that hard work. Very likely this will be an issue with others too. I'm working on the email system right now since CrackerClips has set me up in a good situation to do so. I'll remove any un-necessary links in the customer emails, and take some other measures to simplify.

That hard work of yours is actually going to  help very much. Thanks.

I have some more info that may be helpful:
Optonline service reps said that if the site hosting your linked site is blacklisted the spamblocker could be picking it up in the link.  They use these two services to determine IP's to block so it may be worth checking to see if for some reason your IP is blocked.
http://cbl.abuseat.org/lookup.cgi
http://www.spamhaus.org/

Also ran across this referencing blocked e-mails with optonline.net.   This seems to be more with the sending e-mail, not links in the e-mail, but perhaps it will yield a clue or two to let you keep an active link in the e-mail.  https://github.com/rfay/pals/issues/3

Leo - an update on the e-mail issues I'm having with Optonline.net SpamScrubber blocking the e-mails for registration and purchases.  I've been working with their customer service to try and determine a cause and solution but I've managed to find something myself that seems to be the cause - it's the two Symbiostock links that are causing the blocks.

I tried forwarding a large variety of the registration letter and purchased file letter, disabling only one hyperlink, multiple variations on hyperlinks, only those at the very top in the header, only the images, my site image but not Symbio image, my links but not Symbio links, my links and one Symbio link... you get the picture.  The only e-mails that went through were those that had both hyperlinks to Symbiostock disabled.

They had initially referred me to a site where I could make sure my IP address wasn't blacklisted and it wasn't.  I don't know IP addresses in links would be picked up by their spam scrubber but if so, it could be that they are blocking your IP address in the links.  I'll be calling them to give them the findings to see if they have a solution short of removing the links.  It doesn't seem to be an issue of multiple links because when I remove all of mine and leave just the Symbostock links it still doesn't go through.

Only solution at this point seems to be removing the active links to Symbiostock in both all e-mails or if you could program something in the background that would send an alternate letter only if someone as @optimum.net as their e-mail extension.  Or maybe another button that says "click here if to resend your password" and have the alternate version of the e-mail sent.  That would solve the registration problem but we still have the issue of the "thank you for purchasing" e-mails being blocked due to the Symbiostock links.

That one I let go a while because its not serious, but I will clean that one up too soon.

As long as it's not serious I can wait.

I'm still working on that problem with the [email protected] e-mail SpamScrubber trashing the e-mails before they get to the mailbox.  I was able to confirm that it's not a blocked ISP causing the problem and I did get one through in a test by deleting the header and Symbiostock hyperlink images, and the little header at the top that had the links to my site and Symbiostock.  I think I may have deleted one or two links at the bottom as well.  I think the problem is just too many links.  I've had further conversations with the CS reps at Optonline and I'm trying to get them to do some test registrations and see the e-mail themselves to try and analyze it.  I suspect this could be a problem with the post-purchase e-mail too but I haven't gotten that far yet to be able to test it since I'm not getting the password.

Here's a bit more if anyone is interested http://www.teslasciencecenter.org/

Teslamania is scheduled for October 18 & 19 although they don't give any details as to what it's all about beyond the dates.  I may have to wander over that way and see about getting some pictures - it's about a half hour away.  Be sure to let me know if you're attending Teslamania Leo - I'll have you over for dinner!

Update on the Cablevision/Optimum SpamScrubber blocking registration e-mails:

I spoke with a representative at Cablevision/Optimum today and they are escalating the issue to a senior team, trying to determine what is causing the e-mails to be blocked by their SpamScrubber.  I've requested that they try to come up with a universal fix that would allow all Symbiostock e-mails through.  My concern is that it's not only blocking the registration e-mail but once someone does get the password it might block the download response and other e-mails too.

They said that it may take 24 to 72 hours for a response so I'll update during the week when I hear more.

That's nice of them! I hope they come back with a clear answer to the question what is causing the e-mails to be blocked so Leo can change the e-mail accordingly. - We can't possibly ask every ISP and every anti-spam/firewall software company to do what Cablevision/Optimum is doing here.

I was very happy with how seriously they are addressing the problem.  They see it as an issue that potentially affects all of their customers so they need to fix it.  The IT guy at my day job said that they have one of the more aggressive and sophisticated spam filter systems so hopefully it's not something that will occur with other systems frequently.

When they get this figured out I will count this as my most satisfying Symbiostock moment to date - fixing a bug for Leo so he doesn't have to do it!  ;D

In the upper right corner where you publish or update the picture there are a few features that can help with a little bit of what you're asking.

The date and time can be edited.  It's a bit more work to add the time the picture was taken when you upload but using that option you can change the order for the pictures to something other than the upload order.

You also have the option to password protect individual posts but I'm not sure how it would work to view and purchase.  You may have to create a new page that is password protected, then password protect the images and add a gallery with links to the image files.

Registered and got e-mail instantly. No problem logging in either.
My SY site is on Bluehost feel free to register.

Thanks!  I tried two registrations - one to my e-mail with the spam filter activated and one with it turned off.  As expected, one was blocked and one went through.  It seems that spam filter firewall is the problem but most people don't even know it's a default option running in the background.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: CopySpace
« on: June 15, 2013, 22:38 »
Thank you for that link!

Exactly I'm interested on the ability to reproduce something similar they have on their site. My version would be a 3x3 or 4x4 matrix, the selected squares meaning almost uniform colors (space suitable for text).

Regarding the content on the link http://tsdr.uspto.gov/documentviewer?caseId=sn78766484&docId=APP20051208085810#docIndex=16&page=1 says "The mark consists of standard characters, without claim to any particular font, style, size, or color."
If I understand correctly, the name "copyspace" is trademarked, NOT the functionality (?).

So I can build a similar search functionality, just name it otherwise than "copyspace" (??)

I think you're correct with that.  In order to cover the functionality I believe they would need a patent and it would probably be specific to how they achieve the results, not the end results.  All they've done is trademark the use of the phrase CopySpace as one word to describe the tool on their site.  Curious (or just sloppy) that they have it as TM instead of (R) since they were granted registration in 2007.  The TM means you've applied for the trademark registration whereas the R in the circle indicates it was granted and you own the trademark so I would think they should have updated the site to use the R now.

Thanks for testing for me.  The good news is that others are getting their passwords.  The bad news is, I registered at Ajotte and Cathyslife and did not get my passwords.  The issue seems to be isolated to Cablevision's SpamBlocker firewall.  I'm going to ask some friends in the area who use Cablevision to test it and see if they get the password e-mails to see if it's just my e-mail or universal.  Then the trick will be to figure out how to get the password e-mails past the spam blocker.  I have a friend who's husband works for Cablevision in IT so perhaps he'll be able to give me some advice on this issue.

I need some help trying to get to the bottom of my issue where my home ISP (Cablevision) is blocking the incoming registration/password e-mail, stopping it at their firewall before it ever gets to my mailbox on their server.  I'm trying to narrow down what is causing the firewall to block the e-mails so I'm looking for a few testers with specific site qualities to help by doing some test registrations and I need a few specific sites I can test-register on to see if I get their e-mails.  Here's what I'm looking for:

1.) Someone using Cablevision as their ISP that will register at my site and let me know if they get the registration e-mail.

2.) Anyone using other ISP providers that will register at my site and let me know if they get the registration e-mail.

3.) Another site using Bluehost as their Symbiostock host.  I'd like to do a test registration on your site to see if your e-mail with password gets delivered to me.

4.) Another site NOT using Bluehost as their Symbiostock host.  I'd like to do a test registration on your site to see if  your e-mail with password gets delivered to me.

Here's what I've identified so far using two e-mail addresses - one where I've turned off SpamBlocker and one where it's turned on:

If I turn off the SpamBlocker filter on the e-mail account the registration e-mail comes through.  If I use the account with SpamBlocker the e-mail is stopped at the ISP firewall (never hits my mailbox so I never know it's there - not even when viewing my e-mails online via the web viewer.  It's lost in cyberspace spam prison)

Sending e-mail direct from my Bluehost account to my e-mail with SpamBlocker works when it's just a chatty e-mail and it worked when I sent my self an e-mail with 2 web address links included.  It may be the multiple links causing the problems.

It seems that something in the registration password e-mail is getting the incoming message trapped at the firewall.  I'm trying to identify what it is, hoping a small change to the auto-generated e-mail can be made.

Cablevision is said to be the 8th largest provider in the US and it's concentrated in the New York, New Jersey, Connecticut area, used heavily by individuals and businesses.  This could have a big impact on our network if anyone using Cablevision has trouble registering or getting e-mails generated by Symbiostock actions.

Please let me know if you test register and get the e-mails from my site or if I can use your site for a test registration.  My site is www.karensarragaphotography.com

All my files were P+, now they are all main. I guess that means that my miniscule IS income will be cut in 1/2, thus making the site formerly known as Istock really just a front for the partner program. Luckily the content I still have there is mostly just to keep an eye on what they are doing and not really part of my income stream anymore.

All of P+ are Main also but supposedly further adjustments are coming.

...coming, but when?  Sounded like it was in the distant future after they adjusted all the exclusive content.  In the meaning, we all lose income and take a hit on the RC's making it harder to maintain or grow in levels.

271
This was what made Photo+ useful, in my opinion.  Self selection by the Artist crowdsources the work effort by the very people most likely to know and care which images are promoted!

+1
Mine are now all Main.  The P+ pricing never seemed to hurt sales but made a big difference for $$$ for me.  Without it iS will probably drop quite a bit more for non-exclusives.  Too bad.

Mine too have all been demoted from P+ to Main - nothing in a higher collection, even my one image with a flame and another just a few sales short of it's flame.  Actually just sold that one - Yippeee - $0.16 for that X-small sale.  Last 6 X-small sales on that one ranged from .52 to .75  Still peanuts but at least there were two or three peanuts in the shell.  Another negative factor for me will be the loss of the extra RC's I got from the P+ sales.  They were what helped me hit the next level above base.   I pretty much quit uploading after the debacle with Google Drive and more than half my income at IS comes from the partner program now.  Thinking this may be the deciding factor in pulling the plug on them.

272
Had been getting one or two steady each month but the last few months were zero. Today I logged in to see a sale paying out $44.20. I'd like to see that continue!

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Test Purchase Issues
« on: June 12, 2013, 06:42 »
In my case the registration e-mail with password was being sent (I'm on Bluehost) but my cable ISP on the incoming side was blocking it with their internal spam filter.  When I registered giving an email on a Gmail account I got the message instantly.  When I turned the spam filter off on my incoming emails from my cable ISP the message got through.  When I used one of the e-mails on the cable ISP that still had the spam blocker activated, no e-mail.

I spoke with one of the IT guys at my office today and he told me Cablevison (my ISP) has one of the more advanced spam blockers and when I described the email to him he said it was very likely that it was the recurring loop links in the e-mail, directing you back to where the e-mail was sent from, that are causing the email to be blocked.

No, it's not my Symbiostock host that's stopping them from going out, it's my home ISP cable provider's spam blocker that won't send them through.  It never makes it to their online webmail either.  They block it before it gets to any of my mailboxes.

I did some more tests.  I have two e-mail addy's set up at Cablevision.  One with Spam blocker on, one is off.
Registration never appears in Outlook mailbox or in online viewer with spam blocker on.
Registration sails right through with spam blocker off.

Tried another test, thinking like a buyer might.  Sent an e-mail via contact form re: not getting password.  Contact form does not utilize home ISP, it gets forwarded from Bluehost to a gmail account.  Gmail account is set up so I can send out using my website identity as the sender.  That also got blocked by Cablevision ISP whereas when I tried sending the same email direct from my primary gmail account it went through fine.

The problem lies with whatever Cablevision ISP is filtering out as spam.  In the registration e-mail it may be the links.  With the gmail account I don't think it liked the fact that it was sent with an alias.

I'll do more testing tonight so we can make sure the mail gets past the ISP's internal filters.

but any spam that's blocked should still show up in the spam folder that stays online, right?  from 1and1 I get a daily email that lists any emails that have been blocked and that are being held onine.  this is different from the junk email folder that I use thru outlook

274
You could just create a Category 'Summer Images'
Don't put the category in your Categories Menu
And just create a link to that page from Where ever on your site you'd like the link.

It's what I did for a 'Featured Images' page with 24 items
Link on my home page.

Steve

That's a great solution!  Easy to set up and change as desired.
