People are free to do and believe what ever they want(at least where I come from). Lifestyle is a personal choice and everyone is different.
Lucky for us there are other sources of information out there besides mainstream media. Its much harder to cover up issues these days. Trying to figure out what is "truth" and what are "lies" is the hard part. 253

Just curious why you think "supersize me" and the like are such a fraud, I mean, who has the bigger agenda here. Hmmm..I wonder who stands to lose more. I think its pretty gutsy to take on these corporations to start with.
If I was mr. CEO for (insert fast food chain here) I would do everything and anything to discredit information like that. There are also a lot of giant corporations that make a few bucks off people being sick, so I wouldn't count on anyone bailing people out at the checkout stand. 254

I used to be over 100 a day now 50-80. I think things will stay this way or perhaps get worse. Not trying to be negative just calling it as I see it. In the future you will have to work twice as hard to make the same money you are making today. It is what it is. The days of 10-20 downloads on the first day an image goes live(shutterstock) are gone or very rare. I couldn't imagine starting fresh right now, I would quickly become discouraged.
Is there anyone that has been at this for while seeing huge growth right now without seriously busting their behinds? I'm still having a blast and wouldn't trade it for anything just need to get used to the new terms. 256

The thing that really gets me is: Most of these fast food giants add chemicals to the meat to make it taste like meat
![]() Thats how far away from 100% pure beef "parts" it actually is. To each his own though. I love the scene at the end of the movie "Supersize me" where they take an order of fries and wait to see how long it takes to decompose. Don't remember exactly how long it took but I think it was like 6 weeks before they didn't look like fresh fries anymore. Scary!! ![]() 257

I bet the magazine asked for permission. To many potential lawsuits every month.
I had the "Florida gay rodeo association" lol.. contact me to use a image of mine from istock. they wanted to be sure all parties involved were ok with usage. 260
Shutterstock.com / Re: SS should introduce daily upload limit!« on: January 14, 2009, 14:36 »
Like the idea of upload limits. It would give good new images a fighting chance instead of getting buried to quickly. If anyone hasn't noticed the shelf life of being listed under new images is rapidly decreasing. Luck of the draw seems to have a big impact on whether or not an image will sell well. 70,000 images a week is a big jump from just a year ago.

Not sure what else is available and reliable but "pocket wizards" work pretty good. You will need 2 of them and the proper adapter cable. Also will come in handy for tripping hot shoe strobes or studio strobes.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Best Match 2.0« on: December 09, 2008, 19:43 »Does this mean?It would be ok, but again if it's not penalizing the sales made from exposure. Like the ones from lightboxes or the file of the week and everything Good point. Maybe they could just limit the best match rating of files to those that have been found by direct keyword search. I know on dreamstime a lot of sales have no keyword search associated with the file purchase. Get hit for self promotion would suck to say the least. I thought I read that this was only going to be part of the best match also. 263
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Best Match 2.0« on: December 09, 2008, 19:20 »
Does this mean?
![]() Say it has 3 keywords "woman, chair, grass" A buyer searches for the keyword "woman" and buys the image. Now the image will rank higher under the keyword "woman" but will not rank higher under the keywords "grass and chair". Another happy shopper buys the image by searching keywords "woman, chair" now image moves up best match for "woman and chair" but not for keyword "grass". Individual keyword ranking would be great as long as the image is not penalized for having the relevant keyword "grass". 264

Maybe they don't like the idea that there #1 seller is non-exclusive.
I almost went exclusive like others have mentioned. It made financial sense at the time but a lot can change while waiting to clear contract with dreamstime and bigstock. 268
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istock sales (+) (-) (=) -Poll-« on: December 01, 2008, 15:03 »
True the early kick helps, so does the late kick or any kick just so long as there is an oportunity for a kick at some point.
If you submit to multiple sites and the same new/old image sells on all the sites there is good chance it isn't by luck. Those are the images that you hate to see end up on your last page of bestmatch. I agree though that two identical images of a christmas ornament shot on white there might be some luck involved. I see Lisa beat me to it gonna post it anyway. Need to learn to type faster 269
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istock sales (+) (-) (=) -Poll-« on: December 01, 2008, 13:52 »Right now on the IS Forum theres a thread about the November stats! Well I knew it was bad but not that bad! This is what worries my the most. If new non-exclusive images are not aloud to move forward its just a slow death. It looks like the more new images sell the farther they drop, counterproductive. The only bright spot is the ability to link though lightboxes on image and profile page. 270

I don't pretend to understand the new best match at all. Its sad to hear all the non-exclusives suffering, myself included. Especially with Istock generally being one of the top 2 earners for most.
I uploaded a couple of very similar Christmas files recently, both started getting regular sales and were on my first page of best match. Then one of the images got about 5 downloads in one day. In the past this would have bumped that image up in best match. Instead, the exact opposite happened and it dropped back to page 4 under best match in my port. The other similar file is still on page one with half the downloads. Huh? ![]() I'm confused, shouldn't files move up for selling? I also wonder if this change is benefitting Istock or is it just a failed best match experiment. Maybe will never know. |
