Off Topic / Re: where to buy domain?
« on: August 30, 2008, 11:20 »
Check your hosting provider (if you already have one) - most of them have their own registration (with sometimes good discounts).
I use 1and1, their prices beat godaddy's ones, with additional benefits  like possibility of anonymous registry and automatic renewals
(will be more than happy to give a referral link to anybody who wants to subscribe :) )

- More stocks: we have a few requests to add more stocks and we will do it in the next release. We are prefer to work with the most established and profitable agencies, thus bringing the real value to our customers.

Your motto says "by photographers for photographers". Sorry I did not realize that yn "for" part you mean only those that are in "by" one :)

And if you still want to use plain text window to type in your keywords, like we did in the older versions of PSM, you can do it too. The duplicates will be sorted out and removed when you press "Save" button. We kept this ability since it is convenient to copy & paste keywords from an external application this way (e.g. Notepad, Word)

This is not true. They are not removed. One would need to hunt them manually to remove, or use sorting approach - farewell sites that have priority of first keywords

- Speaking about support I think you are confusing between customer support and the development time. We provide excellent customer support for all our customers, either free or paying - check it out. For the development time, we prefer to test and fix the software before it is delivered to the market and not after that.

I think that confusion is on your side :) Fixing problems is also a part of customer support.

Do not take me wrong, I believe that Prostockmaster is a great program. I just do not buy "we are the best because we were the first".

Just checked a new version. A lot of good improvements, but still couple key features are missing:
- ability to add an arbitrary stock
- duplicate detection/filtering on keywords (works only in generator, making main window keyword panel useless. In generator - useless for list entry, as it stops on the first duplicate detected)
- [speculation based on how long it took to make a new version with SX upload broken in old one] slow support

For now - Cushy wins...

What it does, it does pretty well.  But , it's buggy.

If you attempt to upload and your upload settings aren't right, it won't let you try again after you fix the settings.  You have to exit the program and start it again.

If you drag files too quickly from the middle file area into the category area, you can't deposit them.  You have to drag them slowly.

When you type in the description area and hit the space bar, the image in the studio advances to the next, if you hit backspace it goes back to the previous image.

And 7 others that are pretty bad.

And nobody has posted anything in their bug forums since March and the author hasn't responded to anything in a couple of months...

Too bad, it has potential.

I am not sure about bug forum, I believe that it is not used any more. But if you submit all you found at http://www.tracker.cushystock.com/ - author is pretty good in fixing, you can expect a better version pretty soon. I'd even encourage you to do it - I also believe it has a good potential, but without feedback it will be lost.

Hmm... My site-mail asking to remove my portfolio resulted in a 'BL' sale.... (0 before)
May be it makes sense to request removal every day - the sales will start coming?

It works with _any_ site that has ftp.

I like this one:

"- To many images of this subject in our library"

(Note: not typed, copy-pasted)

Do not see anything surprising - more successful agency is, less longevity you can expect - your portfolio is getting lost in increased site one.

Site Related / Re: RPI for all sites - cast your votes
« on: July 03, 2008, 10:37 »
This is amazing how everybody give unquestionable reasons and come to different conclusions :)
IMHO RPI shows exactly portfolio strength, not site one, and averaging gives just a temperature near north pole :)

I see only one more or less reliable metrics: RP_S_I grouped by portfolio size (for mitigation of size/profitability dependency)

In both cases bucketing may be sufficient to give a picture (e.g. <=25, 100, 500, 1500, >5000

E.g. if I send to SuperDuperStock 600 images, get accepted 150, and sold for $60,
my RPSI of $0.1 will go to <=500 bucket

There is a flaw in this logic.  Profitability is related to RPS(ubmitted)I, not RPA(ccepted)I.

If site A accepts 1 of 100 and gives you $5, and site B accepts 100 of 100 and gives you $20 - which one is more profitable? :)

Is it possible to remove the rpi casting form (e.g. move it to special page, like poll results)? Or at least fix it? It eats half of low-res screen (Firefox 2).

P.S. Do not worry, casting vote hides the form, so it is not as annoying. But fixing is probably still a good idea ^)

Even if Space Needle is copyrighted (any links?), why do you think this photo can be treated as infringement? Is it about the title?

Going completely off-topic - perhaps we should think about local MSG branch...

Anybody else from bigger Seattle? ;)

Checked my queue - images are siting there since 04.06 (1.5 months), and everything submitted later even did not get to the queue from ftp. Did Zym go looking for hamster?

P.S. Found secure logins on some sites, just have to bookmark these and never use front pages.

https://submit.shutterstock.com/login.mhtml

https://www.featurepics.com/login/signin.aspx

Looks like that's it.

Not exactly. And sending request to https is secure even if it is sent from non-secure page. The problem is that unsecure page can be spoofed itself, you as user are not going to check where the form sends your data every time before you submit :)
Granted, this hack is not trivial (requires a router takeover) and nobody will do it for #15 site, but if John is planning to go eventually on top - it make sense to be prepared :)
