General Stock Discussion / Re: Facebook offers to sell your stock photos« on: May 17, 2015, 15:47 »Has anyone tried shopify? I'm guessing it would work about as good as any direct sales platform you set up ... which is not that good unless you put a lot of work into it. WooCommerce also has a plug-in to sell stuff on Facebook. I'm guessing most people would simply prefer to purchase their 'stuff'on the website itself. 279

I guess it's important to keep the keywords in order of importance so that if they get trimmed by a site, only the least important words will get clipped. 283

General Stock Discussion / Microstock survey 2014 results published« on: April 23, 2015, 03:49 »
At long last...the results from the 2014 microstock survey are now published. You can find them here.
http://blog.microstockgroup.com/2014-microstock-industry-survey-first-look/ Sorry it took so long. Generally the results look pretty similar to previous years - which is a good thing. Overall things are stable and the survey is proving to be a reliable source of information. iStock is continuing to slide and Shutterstock is securing it's position at the top. It will be interested to see this year if Adobe's purchase of Fotolia will have any effect on the industry and if Shutterstock's public state will affect their relations to contributors. 285

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock Reviewers Beating Me Up.... Anyone Else?« on: April 22, 2015, 06:39 »Hey Shutterstock ...WAKE THE F..K UP!!!!! Uploading for over 5 years...over 20k photos and again i have accepted 2/80 photos. What .? What drunk and incompetent reviewers are you paying? All photos refused for WB and focus...yeah right...accepted on all agencies, tripled checked by me before uploading and you give me idiotic motives.. Thanks again. I won't upload anymore until you fire that morons who review. I won't moderate this post, but please watch your language. Being rude/vulgar doesn't help in making any changes at Shutterstock. 287
Shutterstock.com / Re: No FB sales for two weeks, is it just me?« on: April 15, 2015, 06:18 »
I tried creating a few ads yesterday and the Shutterstock search in Facebook took forever to load (it never loaded actually) So i ended up using some other images I had. If others (or everyone) is experiencing the same thing, that could be a reason for little to no FB sales.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: about gears for stock photography« on: March 30, 2015, 02:33 »
If you are wanting to save $$ I'd certainly look in the used market. Cameras are essentially computers these days and go down in price quickly.
I agree with the others however as well. The best upgrade is to buy some really nice lenses or perhaps other photo equipment which could improve your images. Do you have a reflector? 290
iStockPhoto.com / Re: question about istock exclusive« on: March 30, 2015, 02:29 »
It is impossible to say how much one person will earn being exclusive / non-exclusive... but yes there is a difference. As an exclusive you earn a higher royalty and your images are shown to the buyers more often. That said, to figure out the non-exclusive rating you'd have to add up all the numbers of the non-exclusive sites and compare that to the istock exclusive rating.
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't make more money as exclusive and i wouldn't want all my eggs in the iStock basket (especially the way things currently are).. but I know some people have done well as istock exclusive. 291

General Stock Discussion / Re: Studio Space?« on: March 26, 2015, 01:59 »Rent a studio by the hour? The few times I've needed a studio I rented one by the hour. There is possibly some photo studios already set up with a nice space. If they have time when the studio isn't being used, there is a good chance they will rent it out (by the hour). A studio that is will to rent their space is going to be one where a few photographers work together, or a studio space set up specifically for renting out. The large portrait studios aren't going to rent their space. 295
Shutterstock.com / Re: SS forum meltdown missing« on: March 26, 2015, 01:53 »
yes, it was moved to a hidden area because it's only purpose had become to down-talk other contributors (even if they are on other forums).
MicrostockGroup isn't a place to trash talk other artists. 296
Newbie Discussion / Re: Explanation of the Poll« on: March 19, 2015, 04:44 »
Every month people can vote how much they earn on each site
http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?page=microstockmonthlysurvey The results are then calculated and a ranking rating is given to each site. The rating isn't meant to give a dollar rating of what you can expect to earn as it would most likely be quite inaccurate anyhow. What we can gather from the poll however is how the sites compare to each other. For example, people are reporting that they are earning 3x more from Shutterstock than Fotolia each month 297
Shutterstock.com / Re: Is Shutterstock ending 25 a day subs in favor of monthly limits?« on: March 16, 2015, 04:39 »Shutterstock are very clever people. The best in the business. You can be absolutely confident that if they make a change like this they will have researched the impact very carefully indeed. They certainly won't do anything that reduces their profit margin. If they are removing the daily limit, it is either because they believe it will make no difference, OR because their detailed research suggests it will result in fewer downloads. They certainly will not be doing it because of anything iStock does. iStock's basic monthly subscription only gives 250 downloads per month (if paid monthly). They are a declining business and it's very unlikely that SS sees them as a threat. There is more than one way to increase the bottom line. Fewer downloads by customers is obviously one way, but that also means customers aren't making use of their subscription and perhaps will not feel the need for it (a bad thing). However, if more customers sign up because the monthly limit looks better .. and everyone downloads the same amount (per account) then shutterstock's bottom line will be a lot better... and so will ours. 298
