If it sounds like complete BS, it probably is.
The anti gov't conspiracy theorists are working overtime.

Gonna have to start calling them iSS.
Gonna have to start calling them iSS.
Don't you mean ISIS?
thats not funny
She's comparing them to iStock, combining the initials iS + SS = iSS. Which is funny to me because it's so true. She is obviously not comparing them to a gang of terrorists, which would NOT be funny.

To update your portfolio pricing, when logged in please go to the dashboard --> Account --> Seller Preferences.
Here you will be able to mass adjust the pricing for all of the images in your portfolio, as well as adjust the licenses you would like to offer for your images. Please note if these are modified, it will change every image in your portfolio.

Good to know. Thanks again for your responsiveness in this thread.

Finally got paid thru my skrill account! Also they sent me a response to my multiple emails just saying the money had been sent to my account. No explanation for the delay, but I'm just relieved to have my money.
Mike, did you get paid yet?

« on: August 13, 2016, 16:50 »
Or maybe not all of us are paranoid.
Let me guess, you got paid by the 6th? If nobody else was paid yet I would assume payments were delayed, but since so far I'm the ONLY one that got skipped, thats worrying. If your right and I'm just paranoid, then the money is actually in my skrill account and my three letters to contributor support have all been answered. Nope. Didnt happen. This is not coffee money for me. This is more than my mortgage payment. Seriously tho. This is the only site that hasn't even sent a FORM letter telling me they received my enquiries and will get back to me. What complete BS. All the people at SS who gave a cr@p about contributors are gone. Someone doesn't get paid, oh well, FYIGM.

payment until 15th. It is not even 12th.. ?
Have you read my OP or the thread? Everyone else got paid on the 5th or 6th. Do you submit to SS? Have you been paid? I've been contributing there over 7 years and NEVER had to wait anywhere near the 15th to get paid.

Thanks for the responses. I tried emailing them. So far no response. Didn't they used to have a phone #? Guess contribs don't get to have one anymore. I'll write again tomorrow. Don't make what I used to there, but still my highest paying site. Too much $ to leave on the table.

Thanks. Now I have to go find out why I was skipped.

Started out paying nothing but time for pictures. In the good times I was paying up to $150/shoot. Now back to paying nothing (TFP) again.

Since iStock changed its Asset page, it no longer shows file Download count - which I used to research images and concepts.
Are there other sources for researching image downloads or popularity?
thanks
Sounds like an improvement.
This is a change some of us wish had been instated years ago.
Yeah. Research in this context sounds more like ripoff. Perhaps the OP should try getting creative and coming up with his own concepts.

Yeah, I know it says they will pay us by the 15th, but this is the latest I have ever NOT been paid by SS, and unlike July, there is not a holiday as an excuse. Anyone else get paid by SS yet?

I have a lot of view on my image at picfair but no download. I doubt much buyer know or buy at picfair :/
I've had over 6k good sellers at Picfair since the beginning of the year and NO sales. Most disappointing site in the marketplace. Even stock fresh and Crestock earn me some occasional income.

Can any clarify is it worth getting a lawyer? Sounds expensive
Just to get a lawyer write a letter is a couple hundred dollars unless there's one in the family OP could just send v DMCA letter to GFX and see if that works. But if not, is the preservation of your IP and the elimination of a thief worth a couple hundred bucks? If you don't value your own work to spend a relatively small sum protecting it, you might as well let the thieves have it. But first thing I would have done is contact SS.

Phil, thanks for listening to your contributors and keeping the payout threshold at $50.
Glad to hear you're enthusiastic! If you and your team can keep that level of enthusiasm and receptivity to buyers and sellers, you may be able to hit the sweet spot the other sites have missed.
Personally, I would love to have a site to be excited about uploading to and where I see my efforts rewarded!

In order to have a union and negotiate terms we'd have to have some kind of leverage. We don't.
I am sad to agree, but this has been the problem ever since things started to go south, and it has only gotten worse.

Oh, really, and how do they know it's their followers who clone their work since we don't see who the followers are?
On a lot of sites you do or did see who was following you, and in my case there were always more copiers than buyers. Figures nothing magical or different about SS followers than those on DT or the now defunct IS Creative Network..

DPC doesn't exist anymore, so that option should be deleted.

So they are following Gettys lead and distancing each of their 'assets' from the contributor that created it.
Another stupid short term decision. I know a number of designers and most of them like to find artists whose work appeals to them and check first those artists portfolio when they need something. Saves sometimes hours searching thru the dross in a general search. And of course was good for us that had a niche or great overall quality to build repeat customers /fans.

Well said! The good times were fun while they lasted. I haven't uploaded in over a year. I have whole sheds full of props and costumes/wardrobe I won't use again. Someday maybe I'll have a massive rummage sale. But meanwhile I'll just ride the long tail and watch my income decline year on year.
The only comfort, if you could call it that, is that when I was uploading the last year or two it didn't seem to make a difference. Income still in constant decline. And reading and talking to people that still upload, seems like its not helping them stay afloat any more than it did me. So I will just collect the passive income while it lasts.
I'm not as bitter as I sound. I am grateful for the ride and super grateful for the six figures I made over the course of my microstock career. Wish I'd saved more of it. A wise and experienced old timer stock pro since the 80s used to post here, and he said that each stock photo boom was good for about 10 years. RM good for 10 years, RF good for 10 years, now micro for 10 years, give or take. Even if you havent been doing this for ten years, thats about how long the boom lasted. He's beeen proved right.

I'd be more interested in finding out who the "mysterious" new owners are.
As to rate cuts for new contributors they also paired that up with increasing the payout amount from $50 to $100.
The rate of sales at GL will probably mean that very few contributors will reach payout for years.
Oh. OUCH! I missed that part. $100 payout is totally unrealistic for a site like GL, whether now or in the future. Even at established sires like DT it has become a high bar to reach.

First off, I must have missed the email. This is the first I am hearing about a change of ownership. I always liked Kelly, April and the gang at GL and wish them success in whatever they're going on to next.
That said, sales there this year have been beyond pitiful. The worst of any of the low earners I contribute to. I would LOVE to see this site come back to life and start earning me money. Thank you for the grandfathering.
May I suggest that since you will have new contributors making 40% and established contributors making 52 %, that you do NOT do as some other sites and jerry rig your search to favor newer 'cheaper' portfolios and bury the work of your skilled and experienced artists. This sort of short term policy has hurt the long term solvency of the sites that tried it.
Wishing you the best and looking forward to once again drawing an income from GL.

Yup, can't edit or deactivate files. What a strange coincidence that they knew they'd be hit with a billion-dollar lawsuit, sent an email telling us they'd be disabling this feature in August, then the ability to deactivate files "broke" after "routine maintenance" in July, just after the news of the lawsuit made the rounds.
Weird!
Oh yes, purely coincidence!

Was there ever really a RISE of Bigstock? They were always a second or third tier agency for me. Slowly in decline, but from a low starting place.

Would someone in the know want to share the revelations? I don't see a reason to drive traffic to their site.
Apparently, their new terms say you're not allowed to share anything from the forums in public.
OMG!! Paranoid much, Getty?! Thanks JoAnn. Good thing this rule was only put in place after nobody gave a sh*t about the Istock forums anyway.
