I didn't get one and I didn't see anyplace to download one on their site.  Plus the dipwad on their chat help had no idea what I was talking about.  ::)

They did pay early, on the 21st December. Presumably you've earned enough for a payout and have thus contacted support, what do they say?

I always earn more than enough for a payout.  I wanted to know if they had paid out.  Now that you've confirmed it, I will get in touch with support.   Thanks for the reply.

I still haven't been paid for November by Getty.  Is this the same with everyone?  We are supposed to be paid by the 25th.  And yes, I know that was Christmas, but they could have paid us early or some time since the first of the year.

Not like we need to pay bills or anything.   ::)

Now I know how US federal workers must be feeling...

Diddly squat.  They're coming off my roster for 2018.  Not worth the effort to keep them in my spreadsheet.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Cost for models
« on: August 12, 2017, 16:14 »
I started out paying models nothing.   Time for pictures.  Then when I built a good income I paid $75 - $100/day for a 4-6 hour day to each model.  Now income is back to what I made in second year, so pay is back to $0 also.  No way I could pay models today and not lose money.  Funny thing is the TFP models are as good as the paid ones so no great loss.

Just did my July analysis, comparing monthly totals vs prior months and last year.

Holy cow.  In July, DT is off 50% for me vs July 2016.  Most other agencies are down around 10% for me vs year ago.  Up until July, DT was following the industry trend of being off around 10% vs year ago, then July hits and BAM, down 50%.  Very odd.

So why is DT collapsing while all the others are simply lagging?  This is really concerning to me as they've been my solid #3 for quite some time.

Agree.  Something is definitely up at DT.  Been reading complaints about them for a couple of years, but my sales stayed strong there.  All of a sudden the past couple months - POOF!  Sales are gone.  I don't know if I had been getting a good search placement and now it changed, or if the whole site is down the tubes...?

« on: August 11, 2017, 23:32 »
FINALLY GOT PAID!!!  Late today.  Thank for those sharing their situations.  Its really too bad this business isnt working for the independent photographers who built it.  The original ideas came from the one man shops, then the factories mass produced them to the point where they oversaturated the market.  All with the help and encouragement of the big agencies.

Tyler, sorry to hear you are going to have to look for other work soon.  Me too.  I don't make enough to pay all my bills anymore,  but still rely on micro earnings for two weeks a month and other earnings for the alternate two.  Thanks to SS being slow I have to push some credit cards to next week and keep fingers crossed they get paid in time.  Need some Rx's filled and they have to wait too.

This sucks!  5 years ago I was doing great!  Times they are a changin'.

To the others who haven't gotten paid yet, I hope you do real soon.  If not, feel free to post here about it.  May not get you paid, but at least you can get some moral support.

Anyway, thanks for all the great replies and contributions to the discussion.   :)

I agree with Steve and his graph.  Historically summer is always terrible for sales.  This summer is no exception.  In fact a bit worse than most.  My July was the worst since my first year in stock when I had around 300 photos.  Now over 6k photos and similar earnings. August is on trend to be bad also.

If past norms hold, I will look forward to an increase in Sept.

Congrats to the guys having a good month!

Thanks for the ones that took the poll so far.  Looks lik only a couple of us still waiting.  Wonder what's up?

Rinder, I would respond to your post, but I don't really understand it or how it relates to the question.  I do know for sure I'm not the only one who relies on microstock and SS in particular to pay bills. Thanks for taking the poll if you did.

Before anybody says the obvious, yes, I know it is not technically late til the 15th, but I have never been paid out this late in over 8 years doing business with them.  Also, in another thread, some people were already paid days ago.

SS is a third of my total income.  I have bills waiting to be paid.  So I am trying to figure out if I've been skipped or if others are still waiting too.

Thanks in advance to those who take the poll. :)

Thanks.  Looks like I need to send an email to them.

I haven't gotten my SS payout either.  Just the notice on the 3rd telling me what my earnings would be.  Anyone received the actual payment yet?

"What can we do to improve your Getty Images/iStock experience?"

How about not sending me an iStock statement with a negative $320 balance four years after you cut me?  Yeah, that would be great.

OMG!  F#*k them!  What ba11s!

Yep!  I had counted them out and left them for dead and then I recieve one of the largest payouts in 12 years time! into a 5-figure amount. Guess I start uploading again there.
Could it be that they somehow are staggering back and its weakening SS who according to lots of fairly big contributors in their own forum is just terrible. I dont know but something is cooking.

Five figures? Meaning $10,000.00 or more???!!!!  For May.  From Getty/Istock.  Seriously???

yes but I guess I had a bit of luck its obvious the same buyer downloaded 11 ELs etc and two huge  GI Rm sales. I helps.

Wow!  Congrats!

I think this is probably like finding a unicorn tho.  I don't think it's a sign things are turning around on IS in general.  Would love to be proven wrong...

Nice charts. Not sure about the advice to upload when everyone else is resting. Buyers are resting then too.

But.... if the algorithms favour newer uploads, you will be at an advantage.

And, if the algorithms also favour popular pix, you will then be ahead when everyone else starts uploading more.

Even if newer images are favored for now, it's not much of an advantage to upload when there are way fewer buyers.  Been here over 8 years and summer is notoriously slow whether uploading or not.  Best to save your good stuff for pre holiday months when it will be seen and (hopefully) bought.

Not a surprise for me and not all that pleasant.  Half what I made this time last year and about 1/8 what I averaged on IS per month in the good old days.  :'(

How about paying the industry standard royalty rates of 30 - 40%?!!  When they flucked us out of the rates we'd earned is when I stopped bothering with them.

« on: June 21, 2017, 15:14 »
If I'd run an agency, I'd rather pay more to well established image factories with good quality photos than newcomers whose images might not be so great. Paying more to image factories also makes sure, there is a constant flow of new good images.

True.  But OTOH all the image factory pics look pretty much the same, with that over lit, over saturated look and the fake models with dead eyes.  There are customers that want more unique and realistic images and they should be able to find those too.

The general 'yah-boo-sucks-not-tellin'-ya' or indeed 'how long is a piece of string?' answer is 42, but maybe not everyone nowadays gets the reference (maybe if one said 42, someone would think 42 was the literal answer, but who cares about them?  ;D 8) :P)

« on: June 07, 2017, 11:57 »
How much longer do we have to wait?  I don't understand that if the previous owners were bad at marketing, they seemed to be selling more for most of us?  I wish you well but have very low expectations now, hope you prove me wrong.

My questions exactly.  If you could give an estimate of when you expect the site revamp to be finished and the serious marketing push to start, it would be reassuring.

And as bad as you say the prior management was at marketing, I still had regular sales with them.

Shutterstock.com / Re: How was May?
« on: June 06, 2017, 13:05 »
Up 8% from April and down 8% from last May.  I may finally be hitting the long tail of the bell curve.  For a couple of years I was down 20% year on year, but this year each month is only down a small % from last year.

Don't get me wrong, I still wish earnings were going up, but losing 8% annually beats he11 out of losing 20%.

The owner responded recently in another thread - they're re-doing the site and intend to get back in the air soon.

Yeah, I read that.  Seemed hopeful, but more time has passed and still NO sales at all.  ZERO.   Even Stockfresh and Crestock manage a few sales a month.  In over 8 years and with over 6k portfolio, this site is the only one where I ever went a whole month with no sales, much less 5 months and counting!!!

If they can't manage to start producing monthly sales by the end of the year I'm gonna pull my stuff and not look back.
