My files are still visible at DPC after opting out but if you click to open up, nothing happens - or it reverts to the previously opened image.

What PhotoBomb said. Plus I hate to think of Oleg enjoying a Cohiba Gran Reserva lit with my money.
Pixart also nailed it in his comment above. FT are changing the perceived value of the work. It doesn't matter what they change on commissions or what other sweeteners they have in the pipeline to retain contributors, this is cannibalization of existing business and potentially, a silver bullet for someone else in the Top Tier. I have a feeling it won't be SS. 279

How long does it take for the opt out from Dollar Photo Crap to take effect? I set my modifications and made sure to save the parameters back on May 2nd. Just done it again to sure.
Shame we can't have a countdown on images deleted from DPC on the boycott site but I can't see any way to calculate that - other than by subject as already listed above under People/Food. PS. Have to say I'm disappointed that very few of the larger contributors have piped up in this thread re their intentions either way. 281
General Stock Discussion / Re: April '14 results« on: May 02, 2014, 06:28 »
5% down on March 14 BME, largely due to a miserable Easter period. Somewhat chafing is the fact FT produced a BME. Still improving massively YOY though....and that's all the tax wallahs care about.
This time in Detective order: SS - Sherlock Holmes IS,FT - Inspector Morse BS,DT - Columbo 123, DP - Inspector Clouseau Others - Nancy Drew on Crack 282

Finally decided I wanted out after seeing Oleg huffing on a fat cigar in his LinkedIn profile and opted out of DPC yesterday.
As for FT, my port will stay there for the time being, for reasons already argued back and forth already in this thread. However, I have deleted 150 files overnight in protest. 283

I enjoyed my BME in March. I missed it in April by a miserable 3% - However, given the absence of EL's combined with a truly rotten Easter weekend, the final haul was more than satisfactory.

Check some of their samples images, look for the authors on the web and you'll find a few of the 'togs are heavy SS contributors from the Russian Federation. If I were interested in finding out more I'd put some feelers out with those chaps first.

General Stock Discussion / Re: about Microstock Golden age« on: April 25, 2014, 09:00 »
Continued growth for me or stable development if you like. I find it amusing to talk of a golden age in a ten year old business but there you go. No doubt some were earning more money back then but there are probably more earning even higher returns now.
As with any business, if you can adapt to changing demand and are able to step out of your comfort zone at the drop of a hat, you can still earn a pretty penny....the caveat being that even the most adroit and gifted don't make it without a sprinkling from the Luck Fairy - whose name is Gwendoline by the way. ETA: Already written numerous times about emerging markets, new platforms and technologies etc that have me convinced this business will grow for years to come. We can expect casualties along the way of course but that is nothing new. 288

I'd like something beyond .38 but as I've said before, my revenue through SS is increasing and they have created new revenue streams via the SOD licence and the FB deal that actually put folding money into my bank account - as opposed to vague promises of future growth and prosperity on the back of knee-jerk initiatives from others which thus far, haven't even added up to a handful of magic beans.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Does Social Media Help your Sales?« on: April 23, 2014, 01:42 »
There are various ways and third party created tools people can find you with if you research it. Mostly via Hash Tags or keywords. So you might write a tweet and add a hash tag # to words e.g. #marketing or if you were tweeting about your novel use hash tags like #horror or #zombies.
Twitter also uses internal algorithms to make you known to other tweeters who use or search for similar #tags or keywords. On another note, I looked up my best selling image on a couple of websites where the article it was used to illustrate had been tweeted over 3k times and face booked over 5k times so that image would have been seen by a potentially very large audience, some of whom I'm sure would have thought it might make a very nice illustration for their own blog piece or whatever. In short, social media does help your sales - although it might not necessarily be your own social media. ETA - Yes, if you tweet, whoever is following will receive that tweet - but whether they read it or not is another thing. I would say 99% of my business income is still generated through face to face networking and word of mouth recommendations....I only have a theory that SM generates income for microstock and have no idea how to measure for success. 290
General Stock Discussion / Re: Does Social Media Help your Sales?« on: April 22, 2014, 05:14 »
Here is a quick tip for exponentially increasing your follower numbers on twitter. Send a couple of tweets along the lines of:
"I'm not sure how to use social media to market my business" or "I need help to organize my work and personal life" Within days you will have every self-appointed social media marketing and self-improvement guru on the planet following you and touting their e-books, seminars, blogs, webinars and whatnot....And you will have an audience of over 2,000 and their associates to flog your stuff to. 291

If I were being a very fussy reviewer it would be because of over exposure on her arm, both on the red jacket and her skin, also the vignette in the corners as mentioned previously.
A lot worse gets through, as we all know. 292

Bumper month so far and a possible BME, for which I might usually perform a cartwheel or two - however, given their recent ineptitude I'm always wondering if they've got their sums wrong again.
A+ for their work if the sales are pukka, a big fat F otherwise. 294

I think the majority knew that already. After all, the same applies to most companies. The paper value of a relatively new IPO is fairly meaningless. Any investor and their cat knows that.
It will find a level once the stock market has moved on to the next cash cow. Also given SS's dominance of the micro market, early and middle stage investors will still be glad they took the plunge. Next. 297

One or two things:
1) Shooting sliced up kiwi fruit on white 2) Inviting my hot girlfriend along to see what it is I do (Hot girlfriend: "Also the dumbest thing I've ever done") 3) Trying to get Flash Harry the cat to pose in a toy car. Dogs will but cats are not so stupid. 4) Waiting for a goldfish to leap from one bowl of water to another 5) Doing a whisky product shot and thinking a couple of quick slurps before I started was a great idea 298

I have serious doubts this will generate increased revenue for anyone other than FT since I'm not convinced these "bulk buyers" are anything other than a cannibalization of existing or perhaps dormant customers already attuned to buying from FT.
To be fair, FT are only doing as others do in this business and (sad to say) in most of the larger corporations I've worked with i.e. having singularly failed to penetrate and grow new markets they resort to squeezing every last drop out of their suppliers and existing customer base to manufacture profit from flattening revenue streams. Not very entrepreneurial in my opinion and the consequence of the short term vision now ingrained in many organizations. As someone once said in a meeting "so what happens after we've picked all the low hanging fruit you keep banging on about?" Appropriate response: "We're f**ked mate." Actual response: Gobbledygook and a swift end to another useless meeting |
