Yes.  But, if Selma is NOT Michele, there is a problem.

302
Shelma, are you Michele Paccione?

303
Most people use their own photos to create composites.

Are you are photographer or not?

304
I'm really not sure what you're asking.

If you want to use photos on Zazzle products, buy the extended license.  Most sites offer this.

If you are trying to set up your own version of Zazzle, and need pictures to use to show how your products look, an ordinary license will do, so long as you don't actually sell the products with those pictures on them.

But, you really should get the extended license.  My experience with customers is that they will want to buy what they see.

If you really want to keep it simple, take some snapshots of your favorite pet, and use those.

Don't try to understand Shutterstock's criteria.  You'll go mad.  Just keep submitting.  Resubmit if you have to.

copyrights do not protect the physical object (such as a book), they protect what is printed in the book. they do not protect guitars either.

trademarks only protect brand names. they do not protect the shape of a bottle or the shape of a guitar.

Shapes can indeed be trademarked.  The shape of the coca cola bottle, and the "swoop" are trademarked.  Hershey's kisses' shape is trademarked.  The shape of Peeps.  iPods.  What is called the "trade dress" of Ferrari, Hummer, Jeep, and many other vehicles.

It's easy enough to simply go to your account and look.  Don't click links in emails, when you can just go directly to your account.

Why not buy the jpg version?

310
It's not much of a site.  So long as my stuff doesn't turn up on it, I don't care what they do.

311
y y y, i know where you're getting at.
most recently, i thought i saw some movie stills and i could believe my eyes when i saw the credit line
saying alamy. how did the guy or gal got to submit and get approved still of movies they never
directed or owned???

Alamy has purchased rights to a lot of movie and vintage images, that they sell themselves.

Alamy.com / Alamy hacked!

Can't get into your account?  It's because the hackers changed your email address, and stole your entire account and portfolio.

313
Another thing to remember is:  "Yes you can take pictures." is not the same as "Yes you can sell pictures as stock."

You can take all the pictures you want of the Houses of Parliament.  Just don't try to sell them as stock without buying a release.

314
I have noticed changes in my keywords, too.  Words added, and words removed.  Very strange.

If I am selling my work as prints on Amazon, and Shutterstock starts selling the SAME THING, for less money, I get ripped off.  Shutterstock intends to pay me only 36 cents for something I normally get $5 for.

Thats an arguement for not selling on Microstock at all which is fine if thats you want to do but I don't see why this is different from licencing JPEGs for 36c when you sell them somewhere else for $5.
[/quote]

You're comparing two different kinds of sale.

If someone buys my work on microstock to print posters, I get a lot more than $5 for the extended license required.   What Shutterstock is doing is competing directly with me on the same platform (Amazon) and whatever they are paying their contributors per sale is going to be less than what I get from Amazon for an identical sale.

316
to my simple mind the agencies' job is to find more channels for our work it seems odd to complain about them doing that.

Lots of stuff from shutterstock, some of mine.

He just copied all my keywords, and I use my name in my keywords.  Easy to find him that way.

Apparently, they want more keywords.  You can add them, and also select up to ten to be "special" keywords.

Fotolia automatically offers jpg versions of vector uploads.  That's why they didn't like the duplication.

Yes.  If a site doesn't automatically offer jpgs, then upload them.  Not all buyers can handle vectors, but may still want your images.

Image Sleuth / http://588ku.com/ How to report?
« on: February 14, 2017, 10:52 »
They're giving away png versions of many, many vectors (including my own), and there seems to be a way to report violations, but I can't figure out how to do it.

Anybody read Chinese?

That's the "vacation" setting.  If you're not going to be around to deliver purchases, you put your shop on hold.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Found a site taking my image
« on: February 06, 2017, 10:26 »
I can't find the image you're talking about.

I feel like I just got suckered into examining a site I would otherwise never look at.

324
Hey, Stopcomplaining.  Some of us, if we didn't have this forum to vent on, would explode.

Yes, complaining does not accomplish much.

Sometimes, it does get the attention of the sites we're complaining about, and they act on it.

But, Shutterstock never comes here.  So, yeah, complaining about them here doesn't do anything but vent.

Guess what?  We're still going to do it.

I don't think it's bad or good, it's just a change in the arrangement of the data.

What I DO think is that it's not what needs to be done at the moment.

You want to patch the roof before you put up the fancy wallpaper.
