General Stock Discussion / Re: do you audit your agencies?
« on: May 14, 2018, 12:27 »
But my question and I am sure some of you have had the same thoughts. I have maybe 1200-2000 images on some of these small sites and never get a sale for many years. These sites for the most part don't go out of business. How do they stay in business? Many of these small sites are in non-US countries.  My same images sell very well on the big sites. What a great business model for someone to start an auditing business for a small fee to photographers. I for one would pay a small yearly fee as I have always thought that non payment could happen very easily in this industry. ..... W. Scott McGill

I just uploaded a few pics. It is hard to log on but if you are willing to wait a long while it will log on. No ability to price yet as pictures have to be approved. Wait and see. Hope site works out but no new site has been successful in over 10 years. If they don't have a big(BIG) marketing program I guarantee this site will also fail.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStocks 2cent Royalties Whats Going On?
« on: April 23, 2018, 16:07 »
This is what I think. Buyers are lazy. Buyers get use to one site and buy on that site. They don't shop around. To much time and way to much work for them to shop around. I don't like the low prices but I say to you all please leave Istock. Shut down your account in protest.  For me I still get a good monthly check even with the few 2 cent sales. I even still pick up pennies on the street when I see one....... W.Scott McGill

Envato / Re: Envato - Set your own price
« on: April 15, 2018, 15:46 »
I don't like Envato at all. I had about 3000 stills on the site and  a couple of years ago they sent me a note and said I was not a good fit for their site. They then closed my account. It took a few months for them to pay me my balance.   Now the FU thing about it was I was selling about 100 bucks a month of stills with them. Not sure what their problem is but I would note trust this group.

Mike Snaps, not sure about block chain but I will give you an idea that might work. Work on AI and find out what the customer wants before the customer knows what they want. Talk to Facebook I think they are selling this kind of info. Although I think Zuck is in for a ride next week with congress.

General Stock Discussion / New Cameras
« on: April 05, 2018, 13:54 »
Just my thoughts. I use to up-grade my cameras ever five years or so. I shoot with a Nikon D800 now. I just read a rumor of the new Nikon D900 coming out soon . I don't even think I wont to upgrade until my D800's die. Not sure it makes logic to upgrade anymore as newer cameras will not help with future sells. I look back at buying Hasselblad's in the day and it was like Christmas when you bought a new camera. I miss those days of dreaming of getting the latest film camera and lens.  I think the fun is gone on buying cameras anymore other than replacing when broke..... W.Scott McGill

I increased about 32%, from roughly $132,000 in 2016 to around $175,000 in 2017.

Let's hope 2018 goes just as well.

Stock Guy 101 , can you up load a link to one of your sites. Your numbers are really good. I would love to see your work . I am guessing it is top shelf. My numbers/revenue  where virtually the same as last year with an increase of 500 images and a handful of videos. .

311
This is my first year and maybe last. We will see. Paid my 30 bucks or so to be on site. Have about 1300 hundred images and have made two sells so far. Sells totals 8 bucks to me so far....

« on: March 11, 2018, 16:43 »
I have about 1000 photos on Eyeem and have been their for three years. I  have had four sales. Most of my portfolio has been selected for the premium. Needless to say I don't up load their anymore. For me a waste of time.

Pond5 / Re: Is it worth it to upload photographs to Pond5?
« on: March 01, 2018, 12:50 »
I have about a 1300 images on Ponds. I sell maybe five or six images a year. Maybe someday it will get better. Their upload system is very good  and simple. I have maybe 20 clips and sell six-ten clips a year.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Big Stock

Mantis I just put in a 500 dollar payout request myself today. In past Bigstock was always slow on paying but I always got it in a month or two. They do have a problem on replying back by e-mail. Seems they just don't reply back. If you want to get their attention and this dose work....If you don't get action let them know your are going to make a written complaint to the New York Attorney General.

An update on my images at Big Stock. They are reloading my images back to my portfolio. I have about 95% back now. What a mess....Now to get some sales. Someone early said they get big dollars for sales. Clearly not for me..Most of my sells are 20-30 cents per sale.

Yes I can answer this about log in in to Big Stock. I just spent an hour talking to them this morning. I had two accounts with them one set up many years ago with 10 images and one with over 4000 images. They closed down the 4000 image account. Apparently it you do use your account much they are shutting them down. The 4000 image account I upload 5-10 images a week. They shut this down by mistake I guess, the good account. After talking to them on the phone , and yes they did not answer my e-mail to support. My account is now able to log in. All my images are gone hopefully they will come back. I guess if the images don't come back it is less stressful to just stop on BigStock. When trying to solve this problem they will not let you talk to the support team that actually works on the image account. I had to talk to an operator and she then talks to support. I am guessing their support is in India or Middle East.

Anyone else having trouble logging into BigStock ? I e-mail them but have not heard back....

I have about 3500 images with Canstock. I may sell 50 images a year...that is a good year. I sell around 10,000 images a year on other sites....Canstock is really a poor stock company and I would not worry about rejected images. W.Scott McGill

I think this went to court in 2008
A federal jury on Friday ordered a Boston University graduate student who admitted illegally downloading and sharing music online to pay $675,000 to four record labels.
Joel Tenenbaum, of Providence, admitted in court that he downloaded and distributed 30 songs. The only issue for the jury to decide was how much in damages to award the record labels.
Under federal law, the recording companies were entitled to $750 to $30,000 per infringement. But the law allows as much as $150,000 per track if the jury finds the infringements were willful. The maximum jurors could have awarded in Tenenbaum's case was $4.5 million.
Jurors ordered Tenenbaum to pay $22,500 for each incident of copyright infringement, effectively finding that his actions were willful. The attorney for the 25-year-old student had asked the jury earlier Friday to "send a message" to the music industry by awarding only minimal damages.

I remember a few years back the music industry went after folks for coping music. Some of the perps were kids . I even remember some of the kids had copied hundreds of thousands of dollars of music. Not sure what the end outcome was but it made a lots of people think about coping music.

Sold my wall street stock and made 2200 profit in less than 24 hours.....I will take that....but I do think this photo mode from Kodak will work...Right now photo stock shooters who is getting you money on your lost stolen photo work.  Most likely you don't even know what is stolen, I do not know what has been stolen from me, but have always wonder about low tier agencies. Now with programs out their that will remove watermarks even more stolen works in future.   Kodak will not care how the public receives them as long as them make money for their wall street stock and for there new photo stock shooters. If they sell their bit coin to the open market it most likely will go up in value. Word on the street the Kodak coin may sell as soon as Feb.

323
Here is why Kodak will pay you. When Kodak finds an image that is not commissioned for use they will send a demand letter/e-mail for payment or they will go to court after misuse of image. Large to small companies will pay the fee rather than go to court .  One out of twenty individuals will pay the fee over fear, just like when the collection companies call. I have already made 2K today on Kodak stock....it has started...  W.Scott McGill

Here is my thoughts. I think Kodak has a brand that has not been lost just out of work. Their brand name is still top shelf.  With this new block chain currency people will react with excitement. All the stock agencies will pay Kodak a finders commission to have their images policed. When Kodak finds infringements on images the stock companies and image owners will get a bitcoin type payment. Photographers and Stock Agencies will like the payment in this type of bit coin because in principal value may increase in time. Kodak Stock should go to the moon with this new business model..Just watch....you heard it first here. W.Scott McGill

General Stock Discussion / Re: Microstocker Burnout Syndrom
« on: November 27, 2016, 09:55 »
For me just the opposite. I love ever minute of stock photography.  I keep making money photographing what i want to shoot. Yes maybe the money is less now but i am doing what i want to do. The 33 cents to even 2 cents add up. Everyone in this industry seems to only complain about how the sites do them wrong.  I say please just quit stock photography and work at Walmart or something.  I will keep getting the 33 cents which add up for me. Do the math and see how much money each sellable  image has made you . Some of your images will sell and some might not. The ones that do sell will add up , even 33 cents. For the rest of your just retire and go to work at Walmart. For me i love making money and knowing that my images are used and published all over the world.
