Software - General / Re: Scary! My CD/DVD drive damages discs
« on: January 05, 2011, 21:58 »
It looks like there may be a piece of dirt or something small that is hard within the cd/dvd player. You might try using one of those air sprays to blow it out. You can try anyway otherwise you probably need to replace the drive.

Print on Demand Forum / Re: Nice earning in Zazzle
« on: January 05, 2011, 10:59 »
Personally I don't care about promo of my shop. (Well in fact I don't care about Zazzle at all - these days I spend at Zazzle appr. 2 hours a week and it's enough to become my second best earning site)...  I have about 20 "Today's Best Awards" - and I don't remember that any of the awarded (and highly visited) products would be ever sold - maybe once..  On the other hand some designs that I find... not good...   are selling well. Right keywording and finding the right category (which is sometimes very difficult at Zazzle) is more important to me than selfpromo.

Do you keyword them the same as you would for stock sites? I guess that's a stupid question but thought I'd ask anyway. I've been putting bare minimum keywords and maybe that my problem.

I chose picmojo, but I am not crazy about either.  If you want to go with the "ripe" concept, perhaps Juicyphoto or Juicypix?

No offense Lisa but Juicyphoto or Juicypic sounds like a porn site....I don't think I'd pick that one :D

Bigstock.com / Re: Unable to request payout at Big Stock
« on: January 04, 2011, 20:06 »
Good suggestion Donna.  I did have a negative balance briefly when the fraud was happening.  That got sorted out, supposedly, but maybe it isn't entirely sorted after all.

Guess I will just have to be patient, but considering that there is already a 7 day wait at BigStock in requesting payout, and also that December was such a slow month, I could use the extra $.

Hopefully you'll hear back from support with an answer.

Lisa....didn't you at one point show a negative balance when all that happened and they came back and said it had been taken care? Wasn't it something like $-70.00 something or am I thinking of someone else? That may be what the hold up is. Maybe they credited back to your account and it is reading as a new sale and it hasn't been 7 days yet.

thanks, good sharing.

I've been in some limestone caves in Laos, but nothing as big as these ones in the article.

One of the caves I went in Laos we had to walk/crawl for about 800m until we came to a small river inside the cave which we swum in. In hindsite it was pretty dangerous.

I bet it's beautiful over there. Never been but would love to go just to photograph.

This is one the National Geographic website. This cave is in Vietnam and contains a river and a jungle and New York City block of Skyscrapers can fit into it. The pictures are beautiful and worth a look.

Here's the article

Wow that was interesting. I love the way black and white photography can capture a moment better than color. Thanks for posting..

I just have not had any luck with Zazzle. I don't know if I have the wrong products or what it is. I haven't had one sale. I kinda gave up on it. Do most of you have websites you market it on? How do you go about it?

You have some nice stuff, I can't tell why something sells or not.  In my store, I have very little of photography, those are basically as cards.  My illustrations seem to sell better though as stickers and buttons, even the most simple ones.

They suggest us to be very selective when keywording, having the main five first.

Maybe that is my main problem is the keywording. I'll have to go back and check to see if I've done it right. I don't have that many illustrations. I need to get back into that, but just haven't had time.

Thanks for the help - I will try that on my store!

Cucumber falls is in the Ohiopyle state park in Pennsylvania http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-64026943/stock-photo-cucumber-falls-in-ohiopyle-state-park-in-pennsylvania.html. I thought your image for March in your calendar looked very similar.

Steve

Your welcome. Hope it works.
Actually March is a shot of River Falls in River Falls Alabama. It's in southern Alabama which is kinda unusual. The falls are usually up in northern Alabama. Heh if you've never been to western North Carolina and you love waterfalls, I'd suggest you go. Over 250 waterfalls in that area and they are beautiful.

So let me understand...it's better to save as Tiff  because you lose less by saving as tiff and is it better if you have to come back and reedit again?

You have that rotating panel of products as well  - I can't seem to find the option to put that on the home page!

http://www.backyardsilver.com

I had to go back and google it to figure it out. When you create a product it always opens up your flash panel after you've created it. You need to copy the code next to that box. Now go to "My account"  tab "store" . Under "Store Settings" there is the option to "edit basic information" click on that and paste the code in that box and save. I actually had a hard time trying to figure it out myself, that was why I googled it.
Here's a link to the google page also, but I still had trouble figuring it out from that page, but enough of a description to figure it out.

And thanks for the advice on the calendar. Actually the waterfalls are from North Carolina and Alabama. Where is Cucumber Falls? I've never heard of it.

General Photography Discussion / Save as Tiff or PSP?
« on: January 02, 2011, 12:45 »
I've seen a lot of people mention they save their files as TIFF then save to jpg. I always open my raw do modifications then either save as PSP or to jpg. Do you save to Tiff before you do any editing then save to jpg? What's the difference?

Maybe there's some hope.....tomorrow is Monday...

I stopped uploading when the announcement was made and then deleted all my non sellers. The rest are just sitting there still having sales every now and then. What kinda surprises me is how many are carrying on as usual.

Thanks Scott
Although I haven't been effected I do appreciate your jumping on it before it got out of hand. I hope all the other agencies keep their eyes open to this kind of activity and respond to it promptly as you have.

There are serious rumours Steve Jobs of Apple is buying Getty/IS, with slogan, one for all and all for one, i.e. no exclusives, only independants and we are all fighting for ourselves.
Nothing exeeds like exceeds like excess.

Where in the world did you hear that???

He was joking! LOL.

Oh ok....didn't know rather to get excited or upset.... ::)

Ah Getty, you little hypcrites:

Kreindler & Kreindler LLP has filed a class action lawsuit against Getty Images in the Eastern District of New York on behalf of dozens of professional photographers whose images were incorporated without their permission into Getty's new product "Premium Access."

http://www.kriendler.com/kreindler_news/news_current/2008-10-class-action-against-getty-images.html

Do as I say, not as I do.

I saw that also but couldn't find a date on it. Did you happen to see one? That could have been from years ago.

Thanks for the replies.  I just assumed I was doing something wrong, as I haven't used Twitter before.

Weird that the customer complaints are disappearing.  Does Istock have some control over what is visible on twitter?

That's what I was wondering too.

don't put an "@" or "#" in front of istock, just do a search on "istock" and you'll get all the tweets that have istock in them somewhere.  I still see the tweets.

Let me try again. I saw them earlier and haven't changed anything since, but when I searched and followed, i used @iStock.

The first time I did it I also did the @iStock and it pulled up the remarks by the customer. When I reopened it, it was already on the iStock page but the remarks were gone, so when I tried it with just iStock and it still pulled up just iStock's posts again and no customer posts.
