They should be generous and give away a free Shutterstock t-shirt to the contributer that has the 100M image.

I think if they accepted editorial, it would greatly draw new customers and drive sales

Canon / Re: 5d mk4
« on: August 28, 2016, 14:19 »

The 5D mk IV has 4k, same as the 1DX mk II. It's not about having everything top notch, it's about being on par with or better than the $1,200 competition.

Well, there you go for $1200 you get 4k video and lacking in the stills

Every manufacturer will maximize their profits by stretching out their offerings for their product lines

Hell, many would no doubt buy a ' do it all ' dslr, but not everyone
manufacturers sell a helluva lot more cameras spliting up options and price points in their different lines of cameras

What is the $1200 alternative you comparing to?

Canon has their c series video cams for pros
Their 1 dx m2 does 4k
They have to differentiate options you get with their various lines
Everyone wants a camera to do everything top notch, for $2800,  sure keep dreaming

While 4k is definitly the wave of yhings to come, it is not really mainstream now.

The 5D mk II started the whole DSLR video thing, it's insane that they don't listen to the community. You can only imagine how much more money they made from the 5D mk II that EVERYBODY bought compared to the C100.

Portrait and wedding photographers will buy the 5D mk IV, but everyone else looking for better video capabilities (AND a good stills camera) will look elsewhere, and don't think for a second they will buy the C100.

Come to think of it, maybe the wedding photographers will switch too since video is such an important thing. Now you will have to switch lenses when you want to film in 4k and it's simply not possible to go wide with the 1.76 crop factor. Your 16 mm is now 28 mm as soon as you want to shoot some video.

The business will simply go to Panasonic and Sony and Canon will lose unfortunately.

A customer looking for an el image is generally looking for a specific image for an intended purpose, so yes they will spend the time trying to get what they want.
I know many contributers that are opted out but have been contacted by ss to licence a specific image, myself included.

Beleive me, its LESS time consuming for them to contact ss about a specific image vesus having to schlog through the database for an equivalent or similar that they can just 'click' on.
A buyer that is happy with an image WANTS that image.

I like the 52% commission and all, but sales have been dead for a while now and I doubt you guys can reanimate this dead horse. Wish you all the best though.
I wish GL well, though. They've always been pretty fair to contributors. I closed my account there a few months ago. Made about $4 a month there with about 3500 images.

What, not willing to wait 2 years for payout?

The $100 payout threahold is a non starter, esp with a non performer

Changing that?

50% royalty commissions is fair
We have to invest our time and money, you have to invest in storage and a sales team

I think tiers are a stupid idea
If you have images that sell well, they should rank higher in the search - thats your reward for producing the content

Any agency that cant turn a profit with 50% take is either greedy or mismanaged or both

Partners should split 50 50 esp a start up.  you havent proved anything yet.

It is always welcome news if another agency can step in and find success in this business
However even Adobe with its deep pockets and established niche with designers and ad agencies, it has not had as much success and as deep an impact as i would have thought
So just how much success GL will have has me a doubting Thomas until I see tangible evidence

I would LOVE Adobe to change their policy and start accepting editorial images

They are losing out on a ton of sales and so are we

Their reviews have been an 'issue' for awhile now.
They seem to be on autopilot.
I havent uploaded there in months and the future doesnt look promising either ( in that mgmt will address these concerns)

Totally pathetic examples
This wretched business is going to the dogs
Why do contributers have to find these things? Isnt SS full of staff to deal with this stuff? Get off your massage tables and do your job!
