I have stopped uploading at FP a while now.

Adobe Stock / Re: EU FOTOLIA
« on: August 27, 2008, 09:13 »
Makes you think why it is a problem to switch over.
I wish they would change this.

Many of us from the Euro zone, when we signed up, were taken automatically to the US site and didn't give it much thought then.
If they have different  geographical sites , then why not have the relevant contributors in their respective zones.
It only makes sense!

Maybe contributors should campaign more for this.

Funny that you should mention this Nativelight.

As I said previously, it's been quiet lately and now I just got 3 on same day.
Like you, I have noticed something like this before.

Tom, you don't mention Fotolia.  They are one of my better sellers.

Are you not seeing sales there?  Just curious why they aren't on your list of keepers...

FT is weird for me.  I'll get several downloads in a row and then I'll go weeks with nothing.  I wonder if they change up their search algorithm regularly to keep search results fresh.

355
I'm hanging in with FT.

Sales are slow enough for me at the moment but recently I hit bronze which as you know means higher commissions.

Good enough reason to stay!

Same for me when I started off.

Didn't give it much thought - not sure if there are any real benefits either way!
I don't know why, but when I started I used different names for different sites. If I was to start all over again think I'd use the same one now.

I don't believe that buyers 'follow' a particular photographer. They're usually looking for a specific image, and they don't give a tinker's cuss who took it. So long as it fits the bill they'll buy.

However, if they have the choice of 2 or more images they may go for the one by the photographer they know. And making a 'name' for yourself does help in other ways.

Closed my account there a LONG time ago.
Moved on to where there was more action!

Am I right, I think you have to pay for space there?

359
At the moment I am uploading to just 5 sites.
These ones, as I see it, are only worth the effort.

I really don't want to go much further than this unless something exciting comes along.

Start ups in the future will be 'wait & see' for me.

I certainly agree with Dan here.
Well said!

So why do people want to delete their port from non-producing sites, at the first signs of slow sales?

Why?  Because it sends a clear message that we are in this as business partners, and that if the agency does not advertise on our behalf we will take our work elsewhere.  Don't you think it is important that agencies realize they cannot keep our images and do nothing but pay for its server?

If you keep your images at Site A even when they do nothing to advertise, what will you tell Site B when they pull something similar?

I am patiently waiting for advertising, and by the way Fall is just about here in terms of the business cycle.  September 21 means nothing.  The real business cycle begins after Labor Day weekend when students return to college/school, workers return to their businesses, etc.  So if they don't start advertising in 2 weeks, you will have reason to be skeptical.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Image Search - so vital?

Thanks for that Freezing!

Apologies if you thought I might be hijacking your other post about DT search.
It just came to mind about sites in general so I thought I'd open a new thread.

Cheers!

General Stock Discussion / Image Search - so vital?
« on: August 20, 2008, 13:40 »
You know when you think about it, the "Search" on all sites obviously plays a very vital role on how many sales we get.
Images sinking to the bottom/rising to the top.

It would be nice to know the exact criteria for each site but I suppose we never will.
Also, I'm led to believe that they are seemingly changed around every so often.

Anyone with any insight or views on this?

363
Maybe you could clone out these letters.
I have done so with hotels names etc. and got accepted.

Now I am very cautious with Trademarks but like everything else , as I found, it seems to vary from site to site.

364
Good to see reports of sales.
None for me so far!

Hi John

For me your site is still on the slow side - but as you say, hopefully this will improve over time.

While you are there -  just would like to know how long does it usually take CC to review submitted work? Also, do you get email notification of acceptance/rejection.

What is going to happen??

You're going to go out and have a few beers! (at least)
Great stuff - Congrats!

« on: August 18, 2008, 07:32 »
I don't have too much problem with the new logo, but I feel the (clip art) guy) with the camera really conflicts with it.

I really think he should be replaced by something modern.

Stephen Finn's guide is worth having a look at.
It might be of help.

I would go with image 5 - "Steel Girders" as the most saleable.
Not to criicise, but there may be a slight problem with the left side focus which fussy reviewers could knock you on.

Best of luck!

Good to see you got rolling with sales.

All the Best to you!

I should have been a little more patient... since I first posted my sales have increased to 4.  :)

Keep Smiling!  Bluewren
