Um, I am not reactiviating my portfolio at all. None of this 1-week stuff. That won't do a thing to SS. They need to be hit hard and choked of content permanently. For those doing a temporary closure, that does not help with the long-term impact we're looking to achieve. All SS does is wait a week. Bang. Images reactivated. No, we need to strangle them of really well done, salable content to the point where their stock price falls significantly (and remains weak), Investors flee, the board removes Stan, and nobody wants to buy SS if they go up for sale. That takes discipline and commitment.
Im with you. Its the same old, same old abusive relationship thing. They crap up the site with similars, garbage and stolen work, so most contributors cant even get a fair shake. Then they cut commissions. So people get fed up and stand up to them. So then, what, they maybe apologize and say just kidding and everybody runs back? Nope. I dont work with those kind of business ethics. My images are gone! Besides, I will be very surprised if they walk back their stance. They have shareholders to keep happy, and they cant pay fair commissions and pay shareholders too. I have read speculation that they might be doing a pump and dump. That seems highly possible, too.

Yes, that is right. Our server is at Xneelo in Germany, but the build is being done in South Africa.
What you are looking at is a holding page. It even reads "Website" in bold followed by "Our community website is currently under construction."
As I mentioned to someone else, we can make a much prettier holding page - but that would take resources away from the actual task of a rapid-build website for the community.
The subtle changes were made to the live press release, not the holding page.
The Stock Coalition has now grown to 3418 group members on Facebook and has new members joining all the time.
Thanks for your participation and contribution to the effort so far.
In the meantime, join the conversation here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/261369748434285/
You guys are doing a great job. Looking forward to the new site! #boycottShutterstock

Yes, I had a ktools site, then a SYM site as well. Both great ideas, but as with any kind of personal site, it all comes down to marketing and getting customers. I can see it maybe working for niche portfolios. For microstock in general, cant see it.

Can you show us a link to your Symbiostock site? I sort of wonder if you are here to promote an alternative wordpress plugin?
Steve
I dont think he has/had a SYM site. I think its as you say. He dredged up another SYM thread to post about the plug-in. And look at his tagline. Digital Products Mastermind Group

Seems possible that Shutterstock could re-suck material in from their Big Stock subsidiary. Unchecking the Big Stock "partner program" box should be considered due diligence.
Some have reported that images previously rejected are showing up in their port. SSs attempt to grow back what contributors are deleting!

Some of your comments have now been addressed with some minor changes. Although to be fair, the call to boycott SS was a community action before the group officially endorsed it. So while we could make ourselves look better by saying it was our idea all along, it would not be factually accurate. Better-positioned or not, I don't think that's the way to act for the community.
I don't know how they've "been addressed". I just looked again - https://stockcoalition.org/ - and it looks the same. Like something from the mid-90s. No information or anything. It doesn't look like a professional organization. Sorry if that's brutally honest, but someone may want to address it.
That might just be a temporary page. Im pretty sure someone volunteered to redesign the logo. And images from contributors were being gathered to place on pages.

...what does a drop in images uploaded have to do with images DELETED? - w worldwide lockdowns (esp asia & russia), it's not unexpected to see fewer images being produced
...how do you know 2 million QUALITY images have been deleted? (or importantly, quality images that are actually SELLING?)
...and you know this HOW? how many images leaving are those that weren't selling (or even [shocking!], 'similars garbage')
You know as well as I do that Shutterstock has been piling on the images with little regard to quality for a few years now. However that's not really the point with respect to #BoycottShutterstock.
Shutterstock reports images "added daily" and "added weekly" and those numbers have been dropping. They didn't start dropping when the pandemic started. They started dropping after their May 26 announcement of royalty cuts.
And I've tracked a bunch of data from the Wayback Machine that's part of the Internet Archive, if your next question is how do I know that
As far as the deleted images, we know quantities but I'll grant you that even the large portfolios (hundreds of thousands, tens of thousands) with great saleable images have a clunker or two in them. All of us have that. I know about the portfolios because the people boycotting have been telling me and I've been tweeting about them. I've looked at the work that's going and there's lots of really great work.
I have also been tracking the new uploads, both quantities and quality and he's telling you it's dreck because I've been finding the dreck and tweeting about it. As always, there are great images in there too.
As far as the dreck and tens of thousands of similars (see this if you don't believe me; there are more like this https://twitter.com/joannsnover/status/1271609402131271680), whether or not it's being encouraged by Shutterstock I don't know, but when you look at a page of fresh content for a search versus the "top" images, you get an idea of how useless most of the new uploads are to buyers. For example: https://twitter.com/joannsnover/status/1271679920997982208)
If you want to throw rocks, get better data first. I'd actually prefer it if you didn't throw rocks. You could join #BoycottShutterstock or not, but if not, why not leave us to it?
Thanks for explaining that way better than I could have. The datas all there, he just needs to read. LOL

but what shows is the futility of any boycott -- even removing 2 million images would only reduce the total by 1%. no one will notice. delete 20 million and SS will replace them quickly (and no portfolio consists of all best sellers - likely 20% of a portfolio produces 80% of income)
delete your images for other reasons, but don't imagine it will affect SS at all.
When I disabled my images I thought the same thing: it would not make a difference to Shutterstock but, to hell with that, it was a statement which had to be made and I was not going to sell images for 10c.
I was encouraged to see the figure for uploaded images per week fall from 1.6M on 1 June to below 1M today, probably more important than the total number in the collection as much content ages quickly.
I needed an image this evening which I would normally have strolled out the door and shot. However, I am still in partial lockdown at the other side of Europe but knew I had one pretty close to the view required, formerly on SS, now on DT. I found it on DT (happy to see it on the first row after only uploading last weekend) but, because I was curious, was stunned to see how few images now matched those keywords on SS.
So a boycott is not going to make a difference to searches for happy smiley people doing happy smiley things or isolated tomato. It will be the specific images missing from SS, because it covered almost everything and everywhere, and these will not be instantly replaced by image factories, rather than the generic which will be their undoing as the result of frustration on the part of buyers.
Removing 2 million QUALITY images will leave massive holes in the collection, not to mention create frustration for customers who lightboxed images, only to return to buy and find the images are gone. Will SS care? No. Will customers care? You bet. Will shareholders care that they are losing customers? You bet. And the images that are disappearing are being replaced with mostly similars garbage. Yes, some quality images are being still uploaded. But still, Im pretty impressed with what has happened so far, and cant wait until the 15th. #boycottshutterstock

Is SS blocked it already? It worked for me earlier, but not anymore.
I turned my images off last week, then I got a notice that I was going to get a payment, so I turned them back, worried that they would withhold the payment. After the pmt. was in my bank, I went back to turn them off, and I just kept getting a message that I turned them on and off too many times. one time? I tried for 4 days, and they never worked again. Meanwhile, I deleted all images except one. I left my account open, because some people were reporting that images that had been rejected were showing up in their port. I want to monitor that.

Freepik and ss now have much in common And yes we must turn off imagery faster, coz they profit 3 times faster.
I have seen now that the group https://www.facebook.com/groups/261369748434285 has a new administrator: a brand ambassador of Freepik!! Unacceptable for me.
The Freepik brand ambassador is gone and Jake is trying to put back together the rift his inclusion started.
Jake is a video producer and new-ish to this so didn't have a clue just what a toxic issue Freepik was. He's trying to regroup & move forward.
Yes, I applaud Jake, hes doing a good job. Glad the Freepik guy left. I rejoined this morning. But you are right, its exactly like herding cats. Lots of one-upmanship going on, with the writing of letters, etc. I will just continue tweeting and re-tweeting, thats all I have time (and patience) for right now.

Yes, its about self respect, not about thinking any agency gives a rats ass if you stay or go. Good post!
I wonder if you and the five people that +1 your comment or self respect actually read what the OP suggest: leaving Shutter (correct) but also stop contributing to ALL other agencies (really?)
2. Don't even think of "jumping ship" to Adobe or any other site. (...) In two years, three years, maybe five, they will do the same thing. Trust me on this. I would trust him/her if he/she compensated me for those two three next years lost sales from Adobe and others.
Actually its up to +10. Woohoo, I got a grey box! 😀 I deleted all my images from my SS port. (the deactivation buttons stopped working for me). I left one ugly image and my account open so I can monitor those deleted images. I have been contributing for years to Fotolia then Adobe, so I didnt jump ship to go anywhere. At one point I had my images on 5 or 6 sites. I left all of them because of bonehead moves like this SS snafu. I am down to one...Adobe. They rely on their software for their main money, but I have no illusions about them either. If something isnt making money, its gone. Thats how business works. Their images integrate nicely into their software, so I think they have way more potential than the other sites, but we shall see.

The new administrator, Antonio Gravante, is now the new ex-administrator having flounced off in a huff. Seems this group's admins have a shorter life expectancy than football managers.
Good. Freepik shouldnt be welcomed anywhere.

People arent leaving SS because they think SS cares. We are leaving because we refuse to accept $.10 per image, and have levels reset every Jan. 1. No, a few people leaving wont be noticeable. Having a few million of good quality images leave holes in the collection might get noticed. Especially when they are replaced with batches of similars or stolen images. SS doesnt seem to mind that either, though.

I see Yakov Filimonov hasn't disabled his portfolio. He's deleting all his images! 410,000 pictures a few days ago, 120,000 now!!! https://www.shutterstock.com/g/jackf
I think it just takes time until they are gradually removed from search indexing?
Deleting a portfolio of 400,000 images, one image at a time, is certainly not feasible in a few days... Especially since he will certainly have other things to do.
I deleted mine one by one, took about 15 minutes to do 100. When I deleted 100 in the morning, it even took until the end of the day for the server to refresh and show the right number.

A couple Facebook groups to join to link up with folks dedicated to pushing back on the Shutterstock commission cut. We're stronger unified.
Stock Submitter Coalition: https://www.facebook.com/groups/261369748434285/ ...
This is the group that Jake Sorenson started. He'd asked me to help with moderation, which I have been.
This evening I removed myself as moderator when I saw (after another member complained about it) that the "Brand Ambasador" for Freepik Antonio Gravante had joined the group and been made an admin by Jake this morning.
I want nothing to do with Freepik - my concern is that somehow they are hoping to benefit from all this work leaving Shutterstock.
Jake is suggested that no one else was volunteering and Antonio did, so it's all good...
If you have an opinion, now'd be a great time to voice it. I think this will split the group
I expressed my disappointment and left the group. I wasnt too happy with the childish games people just kept suggesting to do to SS anyway. And the ridiculous graphics some are coming up with. Oh well. Im done with SS. Ill still do some tweeting for a little while.

Stay with the first one! In Shutterstock Contributors Worldwide they've banned posts that are openly critical about SS or promote protest.
Is that a SS managed group?
No, a contributor started it.

I'm in. 44000 images portfolio. Videos (2000) are already disabled and will stay that way.
I've got some reports from Russian community that opting out currently unavailable. Quote: Sorry, there was an issue saving your latest changes. Please try again.
There is a suggestion to strike today, because fat ones could remove this option in nearest future. What do you think?
Disabling was turned off for me too. It said I had turned it on and off too many times, try later. For four days it said that. No matter, I have deleted my images.

I had about 1000 images on SS, and started deleting my best sellers a couple of months ago. I thought SS deleted the rest, but I was mistaken. Anyway, just finished deleting all but a few today. Will wait for the server to catch up, and will leave a couple duds up and the account open. I want to do that because Ive seen some people posting that theyve deleted their images, but later, some are added back. I want to be able to monitor that for awhile. I have no trust in them anymore. Its not a big port, but Im not willing to take $.10. $.38 was bad enough.

Hello everyone, I hope your sales are good. I can't sell because AdobeStock has blocked my account for 19 days. When I reached them, the only answer they gave me was suspicious activity. I sent an e-mail to learn the process, but after a few weeks, I did not get an answer to my mail. I haven't done anything wrong and I have been wronged for no reason.
No, theres a reason. Suspicious activity. Did you download your own images? It could be someone downloaded images and a stolen credit card was used. It might not be something you did, or it could be something you did but didnt realize you werent supposed to do. Reread the submitters agreement. Everyone makes mistakes, but generally accounts dont get closed for no reason. There is always a reason.
