herein lies the real danger.
or the power. Imagine connecting with people BETTER than you. I have a couple of girlfriends who are graphic designers, jewellery makers and gourmet foodie types. Imagine connecting in a group them to maximise your different skills. that's where I see the positives and the power of this system.

well there's a fine balance between speaking your mind, being truthful, being hurtful, being rude, being funny, being honest.......... I also find it very useful to be able to write what I want to say, and then delete it all. written conversations last longer.

post production, which no doubt ran into more hours than the actual shoot, is very cheap!

They probly think this is cute.
agree Leo, your work on this project is amazingly generous and progressive, but yeah, I think I agree. They aren't worried.

Same when I critisized the other day. You cannot bear to hear it and react with killing the messenger.
to be honest, initially I thought Dolores was you, but the English seems native.

Red hot pepper in wine- I must have drank too much wine prior to shooting!
lol, you could have been describing a shiraz, but it's probably unnecessary for a visual keyword (as is "delicious" yet we see that everywhere)

The car analogy is great. I agree that if you like to own nice things, then why not? I own a D800 now, but confess I often pull out the D700 for client shoots as the files sizes are more realistic for their final needs, and that camera is still set up just how I like it (can you believe they switched the + and - buttons on the 2 bodies, so annoying! and the wheels are set up like Canon so I keep spinning the wrong way, making every shot take twice as long - yes, I know somewhere in the menu I can switch it back to the "nikon" way) . I try to always shoot a few images on every client job that can be used for stock, but at this stage I don't really care which camera it's on, as in general I don't get paid more at the different sites for larger files. I still have files selling from my D80 body, with hobby lens.

you'll be competing with photographers who can go to those locations and shoot in the best weather conditions. you have some lovely images in there too, but suggest you have a look at your competition for travel/landscapes.

Thanks for the kind remarks, and a baby theme is a good idea, if only I had acces to babies.....
maybe, although your beachy landscape with a model idea doesn't suggest "baby" to me at all. a beautiful (cliched) shot with a silhouette is always good. remember your target market is real people, not photographers.

Maybe a baby theme with the impending Royal Birth?
you're not confusing Kate, the British royal? I only know about Mary, surely she's had enough kids?

Thought I'd chime in now as a hobbyist AND one that specializes in rare earth minerals and geology (Since it came up. I think there might be others, but I don't know of any). The really fun part about not being dependent on MS for my living is that I can try various avenues for my images, whether RM, speciality sites catering to only industrial, MS and self-hosting. I can tell you from doing this part-time for the last 6 years is that most of the suppositions made earlier are incorrect. I have researched and tried all available avenues that I've been able to find and I am pleased with the return on my time investment (my gear was bought and paid for by other photographic business, as was finding my subjects for my niche market).
For me, MS was, is and always will be a quick and easy way for me to make extra money on photos that otherwise would sit on my hard drive after they were paid for.
Yes, some are very rare. But you have to ask that if very few buyers want them, how many is very few? 10? 100? 1000? What makes it worth it to a hobbyist? I strongly suspect you'd be shocked what one of my all time best sellers is (not gold), and who consistently buys it. I'm not exclusive but I am not on many sites anymore because I can't be bothered with low returning ones (including Alamy, they don't have buyers in my niche). I'm leaning more towards my Symbiostock site and if/once I generate enough sales through my marketing efforts, I'll move them there exclusively.
All that aside, it's a terrible niche, not worth anyone else trying it or giving it another thought.
ditto.

buyers aren't stupid, they'll work out it's cronyism and it will just annoy them.

Or profit is being made on people who does not make a profit. Isnt that called exploitation, like in the 16 tons a day song?
It can be compared to fishing an fishermen, when first the commercial fishermen have caught most of the fish, it does not pay to fish anymore and they stop. The hobbyists continue to fish they are happy if just they catch something. I can see its a brilliant setup for the agencies, very profitable. But in its nature it is exploitative.
this is true, and interesting to see how they treat us with such disrespect. It's not a race thing (which in the past the master/slave thing has boiled down to race or religion), this is just simple economics: we are expendable, from fledglings like me all the way up to Sean, and they treat us with open contempt.

This is the worst possible time for all of this crap on the sites to happen. My family is in the worst possible situation out there and no one physically around us gives a crap we are basically on our own.
It's a completely frustrating situation that I hope none of you EVER have to deal with.
I'm sorry to hear that.

"domestic" means "housekeeper" in my culture, did you mean that? And I'm glad she agreed, as I said to you privately, I am always berating my husband for speaking bluntly. Even though he is an English speaker, the south africans have a very blunt way of communicating that doesn't translate well. However, plenty of them live here in Australia and manage to work out what is, and isn't offensive. and yes, i'm drinking coffee and chatting with my daughter whilst typing here. multitasking is a female blessing.

oh a Dane, so you don't have the 10% factor I give to the Dutch (via being married into a Dutch Saffer clan)............. NOTED. your English is very...... non-UK, where politeness and understatement is important.
back Ot (cos it seems like every thread has Jens or Xanox flavour), Lisa, any news?

i'm watching with interest, and also would be good to know how many files you had (though of course this is less relevant as you could have 1000 files but only 5 different subjects).
